Tips : in pinball X, in the game manager, when you add the table, in the game description, remove the ” : “

February 13, 2018 at 1:18 pm #76765What Carny is talking about is using html codes to be able to write characters that otherwise can be a problem. A typical use case can be a document in US encoding to contain Norwegian characters … a new link http://www.thesauruslex.com/typo/eng/enghtml.htm
Personally I try to avoid any characters outside a-Z and 0-9. Thank god for UTF8.

February 13, 2018 at 6:30 pm #76815For jollies, I went through the description tags in my databases and modified to identically match the titles used by IPDB so that they would look correct in PinballX attract mode
Attached my database file. Or you can read about it at VPF (VPinball is automatically converting the HTML codes in my example to display the character). If this is simply about the colon and where it is in CFTBL, that I don’t know. Colon has never been a part of the table name AFAIK. Colon is an invalid character for file names in Windows so it wouldn’t be part of any files that get published. Actually, colon does not appear to be a problem for me in xml. But as seen in the link, there are instances where you would need to use HTML codes in the description tag to match the IPDB table name. Else it would be an invalid xml and cause issues/crashes with PinballX (or any front end). The downside is colon being an invalid character for file names means that for tables like “Terminator 2: Judgment Day (Williams 1991)” or “Star Trek: The Next Generation (Williams 1993)” I have to name my media files the same as the value of the game name tag in order to be recognized by PinballX (or any front end). It’s a little more housekeeping when there happens to be an update cycle for such tables.Attachments:

February 13, 2018 at 6:35 pm #76820And obvious! VPinball automatically converted the HTML codes in my example to the characters. I’ve edited.
