Leaf switches and diodes

I understand that real buttons and leaf switches are preferred instead of arcade buttons. Is a leaf switch with diodes also to prefer? Any risks in skipping that?

Leaf switches are best for pinball for sure. Diodes are not needed at all with the encoder like ipac or pinscape
