Great News! PinUP PoPPer (Menu Front-End) is almost ready for beta. Terry and I are using it on our cabs as I speak (yes it supports FP :) its working well, and I ended up getting most of what I wanted for beta.
Here’s some of whats working so far:
- Unlimited Emulators support
- Unlimited Playlists support
- Awesome Playlists manager with sub-lists (no limits, go deep)
- Active (auto-updated) playlists or user defined.
- System playlists for things like recently played, mostplay, just added.
- Keyboard and/or joystick control
- Full launch control scripts: tested VPX,FX2,FX3,FP
- Full ExitGame control (and quick!).
- Fancy launch method to keep table in-focus (should avoid focus issues)
- WheelBar is fully customizable, size, # of thumbs to display, transparent
- WheelBar can be on playfield, or backglass… and supports rotation
- WheelBar/Menu system is really simple to navigate and control
- Lots of screen support I think like 6 to 8…project that bat-signal!!!
- Keep screens ON during gameplay… custom by table or defaulted by EMU.
- Game INFO screen (png/mp4)
- Game Help screen (png/mp4)
- One-button or two press launch
- DOF support (not by table yet)
- SSF yippee… nice to browse and here the flippers via surround
- Passcode protected playlists (you dirty old man)
- Add/Remove favourites from front-end (by playlist)
- Add/Remove favourites from front-end (global)
- Default Media by emulator, or Default Media global.
- Attract Mode. Random of any/all tables (except those PASSCODE protected ones ;)
- FAST!!! Even with 5,000 records, the system is moving along quickly.
- SQLite database for easy 3rd party access…
- NO INI or TXT or XML files to touch… all easy to configure via setup program.
Still have some odds and ends to debug and get sorted out… but lots of stuff so far!
Graphics/Layout is the last thing to work on… its very ‘dynamic’ and script does control where/how text is displayed, but want to get a decent ‘DEFAULT’ theme with HF’s help!

nope….but probably would be easy for someone to create a import util as POP’s db is open/sql. But I’d say it’d be better to start from ‘scratch’ as you’ll probably organize your playlists a lot differently now.

If your media and table’s filenames match…as it is right now…importing all games and setting up Playlists was VERY quick!
Running some 4K playfiled videos with 1080p BG videos was running very nicely for me so far. VPX, FP, FX3, DOFLinx, DOF, PuP all working fine. Exiting a table back to the FrontEnd was eerily instant…. and cool.

This is a great question does this require pinup player?
yes and no….. you will need pupplayer installed (v1.2). BUT if you don’t want to use PuP (blasphemy) then you could delete the b2splugin and use the ‘standard’ dmddevice.dll and PuP will only be used by menu, not any tables… (never by any table).

Even I was a little on the fence at first about another front end…
..but even in these early stages of testing its development… I ain’t ever going back! :)
It’s just too damn fast (to a fault almost :) )…too damn flexible…my 4K media all plays nicely now…I can have it my way (i want a whopper now, hungry)…playlists are so easy to create and manage… we have DOF working for browsing functions including MX leds… and my wishes for the media manager have already come true (it is soooo cool!!! saves me soooo much time now that I’m creating 4K media).
For fun, I decided to try having my wheel bar on my “under” screen with background videos that change per system (instead of using topper videos) for browsing, and the BG a PF are just the videos… really throws you off when you enter and exit tables so quickly, as you think you are still playing a table when exiting (especially with 4K). But looks cool! You can also use overlays on each screen as well if want!
We just really need some nice looking media for the “theme” portion of it to really give it polish. You can have default media for almost everything now per system,etc..!

This is such good news, thank you so much you guys.
I’ve never been a fan of PinballX so this is like music to my ears. (I’d rather use no front end than PinballX)

Bring it on, can’t wait to play with all the new features and such. Pinballx was a great improvement over hyperpin, but we need another option for out cabs. Excited about all the lists that are possible, since organizing tables has always been difficult.
