I've made some real dmd videos that I hope some of you find to be useful. The idea I've stolen from an earlier post. This collection currently consists of 415 tables. And the size is 128x32, so it would probably not be that useful for you guys that run you DMD on a LED screen. Each table is made up with the a title picture, then it rolls over to the production year and ends with the company. Eks. AbraCaDabra -> 1975 -> Gottlieb.

I've used a lot of resources shared by bent98 and a few resources from Joppnl. Of course I've done a fair bit of work myself.

Please feel free to contact me if you find something that is wrong, lacking or you feel needs improvement.

Expected to be extracted into your "Real Color DMD Videos" folder in PinballX.

The archive is best extracted from first version to the last into its own folder, letting it overwrite old mistakes.

    1.0 - Initial release.

1.1 - More titles. Now 675. Some Bally tables had become Williams - fixed. Improved company logos.

1.2 - Believe I found and fixed the year being shown just briefly and of course, some added titles.

1.3 - More titles. And a few fixes.

    1.41 - More titles.

1.50 - Corrected logos for Gottlieb and Stern based on production year.

1.50 - Addons. Just 17 additional new videos.

    1.60 - More titles.

    1.61 - More titles.

    1.62 - More titles.

Since I’ve installed a bunch of these videos I’ve noticed a problem that when I start the table to play it the video keeps playing and doesn’t shut off like it should and give me the real DMD display for that table. If I go and delete the video then the Pinball X animation runs when I load the table. Can’t figure out for the life of me what’s going on here. It’s not just with these videos but with others as well. I’m sure it’s a setting somewhere but I changed nothing since I installed these. Though I did update to the latest 10.5 revision and sam3.1 revision yesterday but I did notice this prior to that but didn’t make much of it at the time.

I notice this on both VP9 and VPX tables…..puzzling to me. Any suggestions? Thanks

Edit: Found my problem…..Hide DMD wasn’t checked in Game Manager for the specific tables I was having a problem with. Not sure why that has to be checked but it seems that it does.

Yeah I was about to give you the solution but see you found it yourself.  I only know because I’ve been reading threads everywhere to try to solve other DMD issues.  The HideDMD option means “hide the front-end dmd video so that the game dmd video can display”.  But I also thought I read they changed the behavior of the checkbox so maybe it used to work different.

Thanks Gilrock….i updated Pinball X about two weeks ago from a really old version. It was something like ver2.27.Probably a year and a half old anyway….I suspect some of these were affected then and I haven’t touched a lot of these tables in two years I’ll bet, except to import the videos. And I know I was not unchecking the Hide DMD VPX. Oh well….another day another new lesson in VP.
Thanks for your reply. What DMD problems are you having?

Oh just not being able to get a real DMD (pindmd3) working with UltraDMD or Future Pinball.  From a couple posts on vpforums I’m not alone.  I’ve read a few things at lunch today so I got a couple things to try when I get home.  I had UltraDMD working with a pindmd2 but I just upgraded my PC, installed Windows from scratch, and upgraded to the pindmd3.  Now I see there is a DIY pin2dmd.  That would have been right up my alley cause I have home built P10 panels that are driven by Raspberry Pi’s for my Christmas show (see attached)

I really like my pinDMD3. I am aware of the pin2dmd but really don’t know anything about it. I seen your post on VPForums. I upgrade my pindmd2 to pinDMD3 without a hitch…..can’t believe I got lucky with that but feel fortunate about that at this point. I think Thalamus has some solid suggestions and will keep my fingers crossed for you. Good luck!

I use ffmpeg to combine three different images – the wheel that I edit, the year and the manufacturer.

What tables are you missing ? They probably will arrive – once I add them to my frontend and I’ve pooled them up.

      @Grillrock,

I’m a complete newbee in this, but I have a PinDMD3 too for 2 months, and cost me some time to get it work for UltraDMD .

It all has to do with the DLL’s. I played arround a bit with it and it is working.

I can share my visual pinball directory (without tables and roms) so you can do a compare ?

I learned one thing in this journey … When setting up thing, I make every day a complete backup of my pinball directory (+/- 60 GB)

thanks for the update Thalamus !

      Edit :

Would it be possible possible to have the older logo’s for Gotlieb and Stern tables with the corresponding years ?

Yes I can make that. I need to know what years they changed their logos though.

Ah. You saved it in the filename. Still would be nice to know exactly. Eg. Taito 1980. Does it mean they used that image pre 1980 or post 1980 ?

Stern 1998 I’m pretty sure used that logo pre. 1998 or is it pre 1999 – they changed 1998 ?

      Info on years here:

      https://www.gameex.info/forums/topic/17886-new-stern-old-gottlieb-and-old-taito-company-logos/

AFAIK, it’s the same Taito logo for all their production tables.

Hahaha. I can see that. My first thought. I must have been drinking and forgotten about them. But, the date is a Tuesday. Obviously, I’ve thought about making improvements there and then. Either I’m starting to forget things or something distracted me just after I found them.

While we’re on the subject. Bally. Midway. Williams. They all changed and merged. At one point we had just Midway. We had Bally Midway, Bally Wullf. Anyone knows what changed and when ? Ipdb knows about the years, but, doesn’t really tell me much about logo changes – or at least I can’t seem to find it. Ok, I think I’m on to something now. Should be able to make it a bit more accurate than before. But still not 100% sure about these merges.

Williams/Bally – I don’t really worry about the manufacturer holding company at any time during their history. I just go with trade name under which each table was sold. So, I don’t have any alternate logos for Williams or Bally. YMMV

@mikedaspike Are you still using these ? Still missing some ? Maybe you could send over the wheel images of the tables you are missing. I know it is kind of frustrating having it almost complete.
