  • What's new 1.1 : some minor visual adjustments, mainly missing bulb meshes in important places.

This is an update to "The Clash," released in 2018, a mod to JPSalas' Rock Encore table. This is a "heavy" mod with significant changes to game flow and play. MODS ARE NOT PERMITTED.

I wanted a game with longer game play and more 3D models to make it more visually appealing (especially for the VR crowd). I've added three pop bumpers, a kicker, and raised the center loop to a plexi and wire ramp. I've also created a new backglass. See installation and changlog notes for details on changes. I hope you enjoy.

There are a lot of people who helped me with various parts of this. All help was greatly appreciated, big and small.

    Executive Producer: JPSalas

    Engineers: Flupper, Bord, Thalamus

    Audio Engineer: Xenonph

Crew: Schreibi34, Loserman76, Scottywic, The Loafer, RiK, LynnInDenver, cyberpez, DJRobX, Bambi Plattfuss, DocPinball, Carny Priest, Arngrim, nfozzy,

After thinking about it, I've decided to release without providing the music tracks. Instructions are below on how to add yourself. If you added The Clash music to the previous version, this will use the same files. Securing and formatting songs yourself adds complexity I know. But it's the right thing to do. And The Clash is definitely worth it.

Recommended Song List, 18 song version:

CLSHA00 - Outside Broadcast or Magnificent Dub,  CLSH1 - Revolution Rock, CLSH2 - I'm Not Down, CLSH3-  Lightning Strikes, CLSH4-  Spanish Bombs, CLSH5-  This is Radio Clash, CLSH6-  Clampdown,  CLSH7- Clash City Rockers, CLSH8 -Death or Glory, CLSH9 -  London Calling, CLSH10-  Should I Stay or Should I Go, CLSH11- Overpowered by Funk, CLSH12 - Rock The Casbah,  CLSH13- Let's Go Crazy, CLSH14-  Train in Vain, CLSH15 - I'm So Bored with the USA, CLSH16- Safe European Home, CLSH17- Police on my Back, CLSH18 -Gates of the West

My adds for 24 song version:

Police and Thieves, White Man (In Hammersmith Palais), Hateful, I Fought the Law, The Beautiful People Are Ugly Too, Magnificent 7

(Please note: Song lengths (in milliseconds) in the script  may not be accurate for your song additions. (I often edited out song beginnings if there was some chatter or slow intro). [ Song info is found on lines 430-478. Song lengths must be entered in two places, one is stop and one is start song] See below for how to calculate song lengths in milliseconds.

NOTE: Distribution of this table or its related files on a computer, virtual pinball machine or storage device, which is SOLD as part of a commercial product, or sharing this file on a public website, or via a file transfer process, is not allowed.

Add music: Buy The Clash songs you want and convert to .mp3 and rename them similar to the recommendations,  then place in your Music folder.  Determine the length in milliseconds of each song using software like Audacity; this allows for looping the song if you good enough to play through an entire song.

    Example:

    Case 5:PlayMusic"CLSH6.mp3":Gate2.timerinterval=224300:Gate2.timerenabled=1

    224300 milliseconds = 3 minutes 44 seconds 300 milliseconds.<<song length

    3 mins  x 60 secs x 1000 = 180000, plus 44 secs.  x 1000 = 224000, plus 300 milliseconds = 224300

The zip file includes both the VPX and directb2s file. The "clash.zip" file is the ROM, unique to "The Clash." LCD DMD users should turn off "use external DMD" on this table if using Freezy's.

Ver 1.1 Includes scripting, as intended for the "Pro" version, with 6 more songs, listed under "worth considering" in comments. (NOTE: The song names should be named CLSH1.mp3 thru CLSH24.mp3, and CLSHA00.mp3 for attract mode song, and placed in Music folder.)

Ver 1.1B Is the 18 song scripting from the first The Clash table if you already have those songs, or want only 18 songs. File names CLSH1.mp3 thru CLSH18.mp3 and CLSH00A.mp3 for the attract song.)

If you want to reduce the number of songs: go to lines 430-478 in the script and remove the lines until you have "cases" to match your song count in both the "start" and "stop" music sections. (I suggest  commenting out  the lines in both sections by putting a ' at the start of the lines you don't want. (This means the line is not read for instruction, but in case you want to add more songs later, the scripting is still there.) Remember Case 0 (zero) is song #1. Then change the number on the line "t = INT(## * RND(1) )" to the song count. So, for 5 songs, the ## would be "5". If you add songs later, change this number. Reverse process if you're a big fan of The Clash and you want more songs!

1.1 Versions are minor adjustments. Noticed some bulb meshes were not showing.

    1.1 24 Song Version

    1.1b 18 song version (original 18 songs)

i would of included the mp3s i have the old table and it came with ?

I’m not sure what you’re asking. If you download ver 1.0B the songs from the old table will work. But you need to change the old song. CLSH00A.mp3 and rename it CLSHA00.mp3 .

I love the update :)!! I fell in love with the 2018 version and this one is just an awesome update!

From the initial version I had 16 songs so I changed the script a bit (lines 430- 47x) so it only selects from the initial 16 and not from 18 songs. Works like a charm!

Neural connection complete (took a bit!) I have access to the Clash’ sub-space signals!     sorry for the STNG reference but seemed appropriate for some reason.  LOVE this Pete!!  Lots to look at and listen to – even while not playing.  And that right spinner is a hoot to hit!  Looking forward to spending some time with this over the weekend.  Thanks to all involved.     …good thing my neighbors like The Clash because my cab sound system can get VERY loud!!

Updated 1.0B to fix the attract song name for new downloads. Also added some instruction on editing the script to reduce the song count. (I think I’m going to add more to my personal version: Armagideon Time, Janie Jones, Version City, White Riot, The Guns of Brixton, Four Horsemen, Washington Bullets, Know Your Rights, Pressure Drop, Julie’s Been Working for the Drug Squad)

Interesting fact: The Clash’s final compilation “Sound System” is a reference to mobile deejay trucks popular in Jamaica where deejay’s would set up street parties and charge admission. This was back in the 1950s and 60s.  A lot of American music was played but because new music was critical to attracting a crowd, the deejays turned to producing music.  As the deejays tried to create the American Motown and soul sound, they created Ska, which led to reggae!  Often, two deejays would organize a “battle” which was called, hold on to your seats, a “sound clash.”

You can find them in the download of the original table.
For the extra songs, search them on Youtube and the Windows application “4K Video Downloader” works wonders to grab them as an .mp3.
Off course I should say “get them on itunes”, but who still does that in a time of gray area ownership of Spotify and the likes?

First off, love the table and the Clash… Brings back fuzzy memories of my college days.

I have a problem though as the table has hung a few times when the ball gets stuck on the ramp on the left side (right at the drop-off point for the shoot).

I tried nudging it but zero luck.

Also there isn’t any ball or tilt reset that seems to work, so I have to reset the table :(

      Regardless, great work :)

I’m not sure. Does it stop suddenly like it’s hitting something, or is it just slow going down the ramp and coming to a stop?

If the latter, try changing the max slope to 7. I’m not at my cab at the moment. I think I have it min 6 max 6.

      Hi,

Thanks for the help but it’s still getting stuck.

It only happens when the ball speed is slow on the rail.

It seems to slow down at the 2nd to last ringed junction and by the time it hits the last junction where the drop-off is, it hangs and dances a bit but is stuck.

Sometimes a forceful round of extreme nudging will dislodge it but it’s always tilted by that point and game over. I don’t see any tilt reset happening either.

I tried the old physics from the original table, used your suggestion to up the slope and a few other tricks but no luck.

I’ve fixed a few crazy errors on other tables but this one is driving me nuts,.. wouldn’t be so bad if I didn’t really love this table so much.

      Thanks and take care :)

Let’s try 2 things, independently of each other but in this order. I can’t replicate the problem so I don’t know if these will work. With ball control, I’d leave the ball just above the spot where it stops for you and release the ball, and it still rolls off.

Select the wire ramp on Layer 7. Select Physics on the options panel: lower the friction from 0.3 to 0.2.

      Capture

      2.  On Position and Translation, change the  Y rotation to -1, then -2. If no go, then try ADDing X rotation at -1. You will likely have to reposition the ramp so the bottom rails are just under the plastic ramp. (If this works there may be some tweaking in scale to get the ball to hit the lane right.) I built the ramp in Blender so its flat, and let the table slope create the speed.

      Keep me posted.

Loaded up this table last night for the first time … looks and plays great.

Immediately added to my “favorites” list

      Thank you to all involved.
