  • Finally, Pinball FX3 joins the Surround Sound Feedback Club... thanks to the combined power of DOFLinx and PinUp Player.

    What's the big deal?

FX3 only plays all of its sounds through your front speakers. This means that all the mechanical sounds for flippers, bumpers, slings, etc will always be heard from your Backbox speakers.

    NO MORE!

With these PuP-Packs, you will now get mechanical pinball sounds playing from your surround sound channels (not your front speakers). This means anyone with a cabinet and a SSF setup will get the most benefit of cool 3D positional audio and feedback. Everyone else who has any kind of surround sound setup (cabinet or desktop) will also benefit from the surround sound effects!

Please Read the Description and all of the Install Instructions! Also watch my video below that explains the install setup and how everyone can help update the PuP-Packs for a more complete SSF experience on all tables!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UW9tn7_47k0&t=

    ===============================================

    REQUIREMENTS:

NOTE: Pinup Player SSF will only work with your DEFAULT Sound Card, for those who have more than one in your system.

    DOF R3++

    http://mjrnet.org/pinscape/dll-updates.html

You MUST have DOF R3++ installed! This is a requirement for the newer version of DOFLinx to function! Install it using mjr's excellent Installer that does everything for you. This is the most up to date version of DOF available.

NOTE: if you only have SSF on your cabinet and no other hardware, then you will need a copy of directoutputconfig.ini for DOFLinx to use. This is normally generated by DOF Config Tool, but if you don't have any cabinet hardware for DOF then you can't generate that file. I have included my own example file for you to use if you need it. Simply copy the "config" folder from the "directoutputconfig (for SSF only users).zip" file to your DirectOutput folder.

    DOFLinx v6.30 or higher:

    http://www.vpforums.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=12318

DOFLinx is what triggers any kind of feedback, lighting, or PinUP Player SSF functions for FX3. Once it's setup and configured for FX3, you will configure your DOFLinx "PATH_FX3" in the DOFLinx.ini to point to the "FX3_PUPlayer" folder instead of the "FX3" folder. The "FX3_PUPlayer" folder contains updated versions of the *.FX3 config files. These have been updated by me to include the PinUP Player triggers needed for the FX3 SSF PuP-Packs.

NOTE: If FX3 gets updated than DOFLinx and SSF won't work until DOFLinx gets updated to work with the new FX3. exe

    PinUP System:

    https://vpinball.com/VPBdownloads/pinup-system-player-and-popper-front-end-install/

    PinUP System updates:

    http://www.nailbuster.com/wikipinup/doku.php?id=release_notes

You need Pinup System installed which includes PinUP Player. This is required for the FX3 SSF PuP-Packs.

    ===============================================

    PuP-Pack DOWNLOADS:

    FX3 SSF PUP-PACKS (DEFAULT TRIGGERS):

This 1st collection of PuP-Packs (DEFAULT TRIGGERS) will allow ALL Pinball FX3 tables to have SSF for the BASIC Pinball functions. This includes Flippers, Slings, Bumpers, Drain, Ball In, Launch, Nudge Left, Nudge Right,  and Nudge Up. Each table will use the same sounds and same 3D positions for the effects. This Pack is required for ALL tables. These will be what you use of you are happy with not changing or adding anything more to the default setup for each table.

NOTE: If you are happy with the Default SSF effects for every table using these PuP-Packs, than you don't need to download any other PuP-Packs! (until DOFLinx gets updated to support more FX3 tables)

    ========================================

FOR A MORE COMPLETE SSF EXPERIENCE:

FX3_SSF PUP-PACKS (ALL TRIGGERS). These need to be updated and completed by the community:

The 2nd collection of PuP-Packs (ALL TRIGGERS) include both the Default SSF Triggers and Sounds, but also includes all the extra TABLE SPECIFIC Triggers. These include all the additional DOFLinx triggers for each table such as Drop Targets, Ramps, Orbits, Kickers, VUKS, etc.  These extra triggers are already added to each tables's PuP-Pack, but they are not updated for their sound file, description, or 3D position! This is where the community will need to help out (by updating these PuP-Packs), as there are currently over 60 tables to update!

Only use the ALL TRIGGERS PuP-Packs if you intend on updating any of them. Only copy and edit one PuP-Pack at a time.

The extra triggers are setup to use "numbered sounds" (1.wav,2.wav,3.wav,etc) so that you can "hear" where the trigger on the table is coming from while playing the table.

Simply copy over the PuP-Pack... play the game...listen for the numbers while playing and note where on the table you heard it.

Then simply edit the PuP-Pack for the table (using the PuP-Pack Editor), and update the Trigger (that uses the numbered .WAV file you heard). You will need to update the sound file needed for what kind of action it is (ramp, drop target, ball rolling, etc), the description, and the 3D position. If you find that any of the triggers aren't ideal for SSF feedback (they are only used for flashers, etc), then simply disable them in the PuP-Pack Editor. You can also update the Default Bumpers 3D position as well since each table will have them in a different location. Save your updated PuP-Pack.

Once you have COMPLETED the PuP-Pack, you can upload the "triggers.pup" file (or the entire PuP-Pack if you have new sound files required) to this thread for others to use. I will then add them to a COMPLETED FX3 SSF PuP-Packs Collection!

    ===========================================

The COMPLETED FX3 SSF PUP-PACKS.zip is a collection of the currently completed FX3 SSF PuP-Packs. These include the extra "Table Specific" triggers that have been updated to include 3D position and Sound Files. Simply copy these PuP-Packs to your PuPVideos folder! No updating is required for complete SSF available for those tables.

    ===========================================

USAGE: (Read and Follow ALL of the Instructions in the Installations TAB! first)

Once you have everything installed and setup, simply run DOFLinx as Admin, and have it running in the background. Then when FX3 loads a table, shortly after its loaded, DOFLinx will load the table's PuP-Pack.

    Enjoy FX3 Surround Sound Feedback!

Remember...the more the Community helps out with updating each table's PuP-Pack, the better the SSF experience will be for everyone!

Please read the REQUIREMENTS in the DESCRIPTION Tab! You must have DOF R3++, DOFLinx 6.30 or higher, and Pinup System installed and Ready to go first!

    DOFLinx UPDATED *.FX3 Files:

DOFLinx 6.30 or higher now includes a new set of updated *.FX3 files that have been updated by me to include the required PUP EVENT Trigger commands. These are all located in the "FX3_PUPlayer" folder. You need to edit your DOFLinx.ini "PATH_FX3" to point to this folder.

    PINBALL FX3 PHYSICS SOUNDS:

You need to turn OFF the "PHYSICS" sounds in the Pinball FX3 Sounds settings, as these sounds are what we are replacing with the SSF 3D positioned Sounds. Also, you will probably want to lower all the other Sound Settings such as Music, Voiceover, Effects, etc so that your SSF sounds will be more noticeable.

    FX3 SSF PUP-PACKS (DEFAULT TRIGGERS):

Unzip the "FX3_SSF PuP-Packs (Default Triggers).zip" to your "PinupSystem PuPVideos"  folder. This will give you the BASIC SSF for ALL FX3 Tables using the same sounds and 3D positions for every table. (Flippers, Slings, Bumpers, Drain, Ball In, Launch, Nudge).

NOTE: If you are happy with the Default SSF effects for every table using these PuP-Packs, than you don't need to download any other PuP-Packs! (until DOFLinx gets updated to support more FX3 tables)

    FX3_SSF PUP-PACKS (ALL TRIGGERS).

These PuP-Packs have all the BASIC SSF, but also include all the additional DOFLinx triggers unique for each table such as Drop Targets, Ramps, Orbits, Kickers, VUKS, etc. HOWEVER, these Packs MUST be updated and  COMPLETED by the Community for Sound Files and 3D Positions specific to the action.

Only use the FX3_SSF PUP-PACKS (ALL Triggers) if you intend on updating any of them. Only copy and edit one PuP-Pack at a time.

Unzip the "FX3_SSF PuP-Packs (ALL Triggers).zip" to a Temporary Location. Copy the PuP-Pack you intend on updating to your "PinupSystem PuPVideos"  folder. Then Edit and Complete it using the PuP-Pack Editor.

Instructions for editing these PuP-Packs are given in the DESCRIPTION Tab. I also explain this in my video:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UW9tn7_47k0&t=

If you have COMPLETED any of the PuP-Packs, then upload the "triggers.pup" file (or the entire PuP-Pack if you have new sound files required) to this thread for others to use. I will then add them to a COMPLETED FX3 SSF PuP-Packs Collection!

NOTE: If you have any FX3 Video PuP-Packs (like my Aliens PuP-Pack), they will be overwritten! Those PuP-Packs will need to have SSF added them. (I'll include SSF with my Aliens PuP-Pack when I update it)

The COMPLETED FX3 SSF PUP-PACKS.zip is a collection of the currently completed FX3 SSF PuP-Packs. These include the extra "Table Specific" triggers that have been updated to include 3D position and Sound Files. Simply copy these PuP-Packs to your PuPVideos folder. No updating is required for complete SSF available for those tables.

    USAGE:

Once you have everything installed and setup, simply run DOFLinx as Admin, and have it running in the background. Then when FX3 loads a table, shortly after its loaded, DOFLinx will load the table's PuP-Pack.

    Enjoy FX3 Surround Sound Feedback!

With each update that comes out for FX3….DOFLinx also needs to be updated as well to match the new FX3 exe.

Update DOFLinx to the latest…I think DDH69 has it working with vol 4 by now.

I’m far away from home….so I can’t test anytime soon.

DOFLinx has a “fallback” config that kicks in if it can’t use triggers for full feedback / ssf….so you may not be getting full feedback.

Ah interesting, im geting no sound at all with SSF anymore post update, so it requires the physics sounds to be turned back on. Ill poke around on the FB Groups see if this is a common problem… I miss your SSF in the FX3 tables! :-)

      Hi all!
A first try att editing FX3 SSF for WMS Medieval Madness. Unfortunately there are no triggers for ramps, only for the gates leading to the ramps, so no sounds of balls rolling on neither plastic nor wire ramps.
      Cheers,
      Ola

Hi Terry, thought I would start to give something back a bit and work on some of the missing pup packs… Heres my first attempt at Alien Isolation.  Ive got the ramps and ball rolling working well I think, let me know what you think so I can try some others……. Im trying to get a view as to how we incorporate’ generic’ ball rolling sounds as the ball sound goes dead without the DOF trigger… any ideas?  Anyway please be kind as its my first :-p

I haven’t had a chance to try this yet…but for ball rolling, or anything else, we can only make use of the triggers I have included in each table’s pup-pack. Those are the only triggers DDH69 has been able to find and use for FX3. It’s not like VP where you have access to the table script.

Some FX3 tables will have ramps or similar triggers that can be used…others not so much.

I have downloaded the newest DOFLinx 7.04. I am running FX3 and my toys seem to work with DOFLinx.

BUT no mechanical sounds coming through. I assume all I need is the DOFLinx zip file, right. I copied the whole content into the DOF folder.

I must miss something here. Any ideas? Anything I could have forgotten to do?

      Thanks for your help

Hey TerryRed this is so great man – thx!!!

I have 4 items of 2.1 amps use all for left side + subwoofer… so:

Soundcard rear right -> amp #1 -> shaker (Sub) & exiter (R) rear right (Flipperfinger R)
Soundcard rear left -> amp #2 -> shaker (Sub) & exiter (L) rear right (Flipperfinger L)
Soundcard side right -> amp #1 -> shaker (Sub) & exiter (R) side right
Soundcard side left -> amp #2 -> shaker (Sub) & exiter (L) side right

It works in Windos very well.. (trigger the right speaker in sound-card test options).

But in FX3 + PinupPlayer -> always plays both sides, when i trigger a Flipperfinger:

trigger left flipper -> sounds on rear right & rear left

Any ideas to split this up (to left and right)?

      Best regards

PuP SSF is just using Windows for sound positioning.

Be sure Win 10 sound settings aren’t in some kind of “surround” mode which will mix your channels in some apps.

Thank you so much for answering!!!

      I tried:

onboard Sound (Asus) and a Creative X-FI 7.1 PCIe… » same issue

WIN10: nothing set (no room extentions, even “enhancements disabled: yes”)… just 7.1 without center & subwoofer.

In WIN10 during: sound settings -> configure -> test speakers —> it works (all speakers sound only by click them selves)

But still in PFX3 with PUPlayer & DOFLinx:

Push left flipper -> sound rear “left & right” together (but also nothing at front & side speakers)…

So iam close… but still “kind of mono”

      any other ideas?

Try editing the pup-pack of the table you are trying.

Goto the SSF flipper triggers and try editing the Counter vaules. Those are the “3D position settings” for PUP SFF. they are in this format.

      x,z,y

The range for X (left and right) is -10 (left), 0 (center), 10 (right)

      z stays at 1

The range for Y (top and bottom) is 0 (top), -5 (center), -10 (bottom)

So try adjusting the left flipper to:

      -10,1,-10

      Right Flipper:

      10,1,-10

Save the pup-pack. See if that works better at all.

If not… then it’s not a pup setting that is the problem.

If it does sound better…then you may need to adjust each pup-pack for more separation for your setup.

I get a little bit of spill over, but that is normal for the actual position of the flippers…. unless I choose to have the flippers at the extreme corner positions like I mention above.

      thx again. :good:

      This also doesn´t help (L -10,1,-10 & R 10,1,-10).
I also tried the soundblaster driver incl. settings and turned off everything.
And i tried to use stereo sound files (just recorded a table in stereo)

      Always triggering both sides…. hmmm?!?

Is there anything i can take a look on (config in the back, some settings somewhere)?

In PinUP Player Display i have: music -> Hide always (sound only)… but theres not really more to setup right?

PUP SSF is totally different from everything else pup related. So it doesn’t use VLC at all for playback.

I just realized you are using an X-Fi? Is that the OLD version of that card?

I have an Audigy 2, 7.1 card…and its a pain to get to work right because of lack of proper sound driver support with Win 10. I can’t use it anymore with my new mobo anyway as its not PCI-E :(

Chances are that card is just not working right because of drivers…or some odd setting that Creative software etc may be using for certain apps.

Nothing else I can help out with here…sorry.

      I found it….

with 10,1,-10 and -10,1,-10 it´s completely left and right in your version of the jurrasic world table when i:

set the sampling rate (fixed) to: 441, 16 bit (sorry for german screenshot but i think you know what i mean)

      Settings

      I tried this driver here

      works

So exited to update my current rpi ambilight cab with pinscape, nudging, ssf, teensy etc.
(ill keep the undercab ambilight and use backglas as undercab MX – btw: i use your DOFLinx effect -> greeeeaaaat job man!)

I play currently a little bit with the sounds (frequency´s, compression, panorama etc.)… (i have a recording studio)… and when iam ready, i can share for testing (if there´s someone interested).

Another question before i proceed: some tables (in FX3_PUPlayer folder) are missing… e.g. 4 of 11 WMS tables (like WMSCirqusVoltaire, WMSMonsterBash etc.)

Where can i find them for my \FX3_PUPlayer folder and \PUPVideos folder (PUP Packs)?

They haven’t been added yet for “custom” pup-packs for those tables.

I need to manually update the DOFLinx FX3 configs for PUP SSF for each table, and I’ve had MANY projects coming and going.

That said…ALL tables with fall back to the default “FX3_PUP_SSF” config and pup-pack if there isn’t a custom config for the table available.

Keep in mind…. this isn’t like FP or VPX. There are only basic triggers around the table that DDH69 is able to find / use for DOFLinx. So in many cases, you aren’t getting much more for a specific table for SSF beyond the default:

      • flippers
