  • Experience the power of Grayskull with my all-new "Masters of the Universe (VPX) PuP-Pack - Royal Boob Edition". I took my Future Pinball Mastered mod, and gave it the power of Pinup Player!

    Featuring:

    - overlay Castle Grayskull image

    - background "sky" layer that changes for each multiball mode, and also will strike lightning when you press the left and right flippers during normal gameplay modes. (it will delay between lightning strikes, so don't go crazy expecting a nutty lightning storm)

    - Castle "eyes" layer will glow and change colour for each game mode, and some game events

    - Castle "mouth" layer will play videos for various in game events and modes.

    - 2 packs to choose from: "Text on the Backglass", and "No Text on the Backglass"

    - new "Text on Topper or Under" screen "option". Plays videos of all the animated text (and logo) with a nice castle stone backdrop, on your Topper or Under screen.  Toppers are 21:9 (1920×822), and Unders are a wider ratio (1920×562)

    - new PuPDMD and PostDMD files by LynnInDenver. These will allow to use a modern LCD displays for PuP based scoring with animated backgrounds. You can use these to display your scores instead of UltraDMD. PuPDMD is for LCD DMDs and PostDMD is for full-size 16:9 modern Stern-style displays.

A video preview of the PuP-Pack with the VPX table can be seen here:

System:  Visual Pinball X (version 10.5+)

    Credits:

    - PuP-Pack was created by: TerryRed

    - the original (stunning) Castle Grayskull image was made by Ankit Bhatnagar.

    https://www.artstation.com/artwork/Vvynn

    - The Castle Grayskull image was edited and made into an Overlay frame by Tarcisio Caleiro.

    - Topper and Under Castle Stone backdrop video by Tarcisio Caleiro.

    - The video effects were created by AA VFX:

    https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCilPIl-SwFbtsoH8WLnvlfA

    - The Visual Pinball X conversion (of Rom's excellent Future Pinball original table) was converted by randr.

    - Pinup Player (the software that plays the active video backglass) was created by Nailbuster.

    - PuPDMD and PostDMD files were created by LynnInDenver

This PuP-Pack uses the following PuP-screens:

Screen 2 - Backglass (Underlay Video Layer)

    Screen 7 - Other1/Backglass 2 (Mouth Videos)

    Screen 8 - Other2/Topper 2 (Eyes)

Screen 0 - Topper (Text) "Optional"

Overlay - Castle Frame Layer (assigned to screen 2)

Important! If you have ANY of the above PuP screens "rotated" in the PuP default settings (you shouldn't though), then those same screens will also be rotated in this PuP-Pack!

2 Screen Users: Please note that I DO NOT have a 2 screen setup for this pack. There simply isn't enough space for a DMD and the videos with Text, etc to work properly. The Overlay image can be edited to make room for the DMD if you want (remove the bottom area of the Castle mouth). Combining that with the "No Text on BG" PuP-Pack would be your best option.

    =============================================================

    REQUIREMENTS: IMPORTANT!

Masters of the Universe (VPX) table: This PuP-Pack will only work with the VPX version of the table found at this link. You need the latest update to use the PuPDMD and PostDMD files.

    https://vpinball.com/VPBdownloads/masters-of-the-universefp-conversion/

Visual Pinball X 10.5 All in One or higher installed (this is to include newest B2S Server, and UltraDMD):

    https://vpinball.com/VPBdownloads/categories/vpx-exes/

    PINUP SYSTEM (1.3.7 or higher):

PinUP System 1.3.7 FULLY installed and PinUP Player setup. (The Pinup Popper front-end is not required for PuP-Packs, for those who use another front-end)

    https://vpinball.com/VPBdownloads/pinup-system-player-and-popper-front-end-install/

    PinUPPlayerB2SDriver and B2S SERVER SETTINGS:

Be sure that your PuPB2s Driver and B2S server settings are setup and working correctly so you don't get any errors.

    http://www.nailbuster.com/wikipinup/doku.php?id=puppack_troubleshoot

    NO DIRECTB2S BACKGLASS RUNNING:

You MUST NOT have a directb2s running at all, or it may obscure the PuP Backglass!!!

Simply make sure you have a copy of the VPX "Masters of the Universe" table (intended only for use with this PuP-Pack), and make sure it is named VERY differently to your directb2s file, so when you launch that copy of your table it won't launch the directb2s!

FRONT-END MEDIA DISABLED FOR "Masters of the Universe" TABLE:

Make sure you have no media displayed on your Backglass and Topper when launching the table from a front-end.

Pinball X: In Games Manager, make sure you have "Hide Topper" and "Hide Backglass" enabled for the table you are using.

Popper: In Games Manager, for the table you are using, enter -1 In the "Keep Displays ON" field (to not use Popper media on ALL Displays when launching the table)

    ================================================

    INSTALLATION:

Ensure there are no files in your "PUPVideos" "motu" folder (if that folder already exists).

Choose either "Text on Backglass", or "No Text on Backglass" PuP-Pack.

Copy the PuP-Pack "motu" folder from the PuP-Pack zip archive (of your choice) into your "PUPVideos" folder.

Optional "Text on Topper or Under Videos":

This "option" plays videos of all the animated text (and logo) with a nice castle stone backdrop, on your Topper or Under screen. This can be used with any version of the PuP-Pack.

Copy the files from your choice of the Topper (21:9 ratio) or Under (wider ratio) zip, into the "PUPVideos" "motu" folder, overwriting all files! (you must copy all files for it to work).

Note: Adding the "Topper - Under option" will overwrite all of the pup-pack settings! (as its needed for the topper videos to work). If you have a custom layout (different CustomPos, etc) of the pup-pack that was previously installed... make sure you backup your current screens.pup file for the pup-pack so you can copy over your settings to the new screens.pup file.

NEW! Optional PuPDMD and PostDMD files from LynnInDenver:

    - new PuPDMD and PostDMD files by LynnInDenver. These will allow to use a modern LCD displays for PuP based scoring with animated backgrounds. You can use these to display your scores instead of UltraDMD. PuPDMD is for LCD DMDs and PostDMD is for full-size 16:9 modern Stern-style displays.

-simply copy the DMD and FONTS folders from the Motu_PupDMD_PostDMD.zip to your "motu" pup-pack folder. Then choose which option you want in the table script.

-if using PuPDMD, make sure your PuP DMD display is setup correct in your default PuP Display settings.

-if using PostDMD, make sure your PuP Music display is setup correct in your default PuP Display settings (this is used for size and position reference).

    "EYES" of Castle Grayskull:

    - if you don't want the Castle Grayskull "eyes" to change (and stay black), then edit the PuP-Pack and set Screen 8 to OFF, and SAVE the PuP-Pack.

Alternate "Castle Mouth" Default Background Videos:

    - the default "Background" Castle Mouth video that will play (when no other videos are playing) is located in the "Background - BG" folder. If you wish to use another video instead, I have included other videos you can use. They are located in the "Background - BG - Alternates" folder. Simply replace the video file in "Background - BG" with your preferred video file from the "Background - BG - Alternates" folder.

    ================================================

Make your own "Castle Mouth" and "Sky Glow" Default Background Videos:

    - in the "Background - BG - Alternates" folder, I have also included the transparency files I used for creating the nice "shadowed" Castle Mouth videos, as well as the "Glow" for the Sky videos. You can use them with your favorite Video Editor to create your own videos to use if you want!

    Note:

"Castle Mouth" videos "must" be 1280x960, mp4, 30fps

"Sky Glow" videos "must" be 1920x1080, mp4, 30fps

This is to make sure they are in the same format as the other videos used. If they are in a different resolution or format, then you will get an ugly "blink" between each video, and it will look like ass.

    ================================================

    PROBLEMS:

If you have video stuttering or artifacts with PuP-Packs with VPX...  you most likely don't have VSYNC properly setup in VPX. Set "FPS Limiter/VSYNC" to 1, and "Maximum Pre-Rendered Frames" to 1 in VPX Video Options. This can also be set per-table in the Table's "User Customization" options, so check that as well.

Having certain programs running in the background can also cause issues as they may interfere with VLC or prevent Overlays from displaying. Try closing out other programs / processes to see if that helps resolve any issues.

For other issues with getting a PuP-Pack to work, refer to the wiki:

    http://www.nailbuster.com/wikipinup/doku.php?id=puppack_troubleshoot

    ================================================

NOTE: There WILL be additional versions of the PuP-Pack coming that will support Topper and Under setups. This will most likely have ALL Text being displayed on a Topper - Under instead of the Backglass. Keep an eye out for that!

    1.1a

    - add PuPDMD and PostDMD files from LynnInDenver

    1.1

    - created a new "No Text on Backglass" Pack, that displays no text on the backglass videos

    - added both Topper and Under "with text" option that shows all the animated text on your "Topper - Under" screen. It can be used with any version of the PuP-Pack

I’ve been having the exact same issue with this PuP-Pack..

Every once in a while I can get it to work by starting the game closing the game restart the game without closing the editor and it helps to have a first boot..

Not sure what I am doing wrong with this one. Have the newest version of the table. Using the Text on BG version. I don’t get the Castle overlay and also no videos work. Every other Pup-Pack I have works fine, Tron, Batman, F14, Stranger Things, etc. I do see the background sky layer and also He-Man and the sword animation is moving. Other than that no video or Castle overlay.

Something else worth mentioning is PinUpDisplay goes not responding after / while playing the table and then I have to manually kill it.

Made sure I was using the new table, looked in the script and it has mentions of the PuP-Pack. Plus I downloaded it like 3 times just to make sure :).

      Thanks,

      Nick

Only thing I can think of is either your PuP install is not up to date with the latest… or you may have your screens not setup correctly for PuP…maybe you have one of your screens off by a little bit and it’s spilling over on another screen, DPI Text scaling setting for ALL screens in Windows, VPX or UltraDMD version, etc.

You also may have something running in the background that’s interfering with the Overlay frame (the Castle image). this can be graphics related programs. monitor overclocking or tweaking programs, overclocking software for GPU, Logitech Gaming Software, etc.

My guess is your specs are not super high so I would suggest maybe removing the “video” images in the editors image manager and see what happens.

Im not any help with the pup pack but I’m guessing it’s pushing your system so removing the videos in image manager should help

Thanks for the replies…. I doubt it is my specs. This is a new built system, i5-8400, 8GB Ram, 1060  6GB. Everything else is working 100% fine including every other PuP Pack. No SW programs running other than what is needed, DOF, DOFLinx, etc. Double and triple checked screen setup as well. I will keep looking… like I said thanks for the replies, I know this is a tricky one.

Also made sure I am on the latest Pup. I know I had issues orignally with TF but that is because I wasn’t on 1.3.7 so I know I am.

      Thanks,

Try turning off screen 8 (Eyes) for this pup-pack in the PuP-PAck Editor, then save and see if that helps. Someone else had an issue with that for some reason…nd they also thought other packs were working correctly….but it turns out they weren’t. They just didnt realize that certain videos for certain screens weren’t getting triggered.

If I disable the 1st trigger line “overlay frame” then it works

But Then I miss out on the  Grayskull Overlay image

“Something” may be running on your system that is interfering with the Overlay… I’ve had GIMP (a paint program) cause that as an example.

I would double check to be sure that your VLC didn’t update itself as well. It must be 2.2.8 32 bit. For some ppl they had it on auto-update.

@terryred any plans from nailbuster to make it work with current version?

New version of VLC has load of problems (uses GPU more, etc)…why it was never used.

No worries though…. next version of PuP will NOT need VLC installed! It will use local VLC files from within PinupSystem folder….AND you can have the newest VLC installed as well. PuP will just use the older version no matter what.

      Hi,

      I’m in the same boat than @Rastan350 and @Outhere : PinUp up to date, VLC 2.2.8 32 bits, Win10 x64 1809 17763.134, i5-8400, 8 Gb DDR4 and GTX 1060 6 Gb, with Pup Pack 1.1 – Text on BG.

No AV, no other softwares than what is needed in my pincab.

When I launch the table (v 0.9a) UltraDMD runs fine, table runs fine and my backglass displays nothing else than  Background – BG\backdrop – default_logo.mp4 + Background – Underlay\Underlay_Default.mp4.

I’m using VPX 10.6 beta rev 3541, I’ve tried with 10.5 also to no avail. All others Pup packs runs fine.

I’m going to give another check ;)

Anyway thanks for your hard work @TerryRed it really is much appreciated  :good:

Double check to be sure your DPI / Text Scaling is set to 100 for ALL of your screens in Windows (Win 10 lets you do it separately for each screen).

Make sure your PuP screens are setup correctly and are not spilling over onto another screen…even by one pixel!

Just because other packs ran fine…doesn’t mean you haven’t not always had this problem. There are lots of features in PuP that aren’t used in every pack. This pack just may have brought out an underlying issue that was always there.

I think you only get a PuP-log for PuP-Packs that use PuP-Capture for DMD triggering of videos.

So I’ve double checked everything I could, I think, followed the Puppack troubleshoot, checked that I’ve no PinUp screens overlapping, and like @outhere it works if I disable the first trigger.

Most of the time when I exit VPX I have to manually kill PinUpDisplay.exe process because it stopped responding ; when in game the video of Heman on Battlecat runs once then freezes.

@TerryRed you talked about Gimp previously that could generate issues, I have Gimp installed on my pincab (but not running) and will uninstall it to see if it solves. I will uninstall TeamViewer too as I manage my pincab with this software and report here ;)

      Thanks :)

No I meant having GIMP “running” causes issues sometimes….as does having other programs running in the background possibly. I use GIMP to create these packs. There may be something else running that interferes with the Overlay image. It’s the only thing I can think of. Some ppl have Logitech Gaming software cause it…others having overclocking software…some have monitor tuning programs.

I’m hoping the newer upcoming transparent video features of PuP will make it so the Overlay (not used by VLC) can be replaced with a Transparent video layer (that is played by VLC), and maybe that will work better for you.

That’s what I’ve understood Terry, Gimp is running only when I need it ;)

There may be something else running that interferes with the Overlay image. It’s the only thing I can think of.

I’ve just tested after disabling every services (except Microsoft’s ones) and everything that could launch on startup in MSConfig, with and without Run as admin and Win10 FS optimizations options on VPX and PinUpDisplay exes and still have the issue.

But I had something I never had before : at the first cold Windows boot and without launching anything else than VPX and the table, when exiting VPX the overlay and current video playing when exiting displayed for less than a second before PinUpDisplay exited.

Any other tries led to PinUpDisplay.exe stopped responding.

I’ve noticed that most of the time PinUpDisplay.exe crashes when the table is up and ready ; I haven’t very good coding skills but it let me thing that something calling Pup when the table runs leads to a crash.

I’m hoping the newer upcoming transparent video features of PuP will make it so the Overlay (not used by VLC) can be replaced with a Transparent video layer (that is played by VLC), and maybe that will work better for you.

Sounds great, I do hope so ;)

Anyway and again thanks for your hard work for the community guys, it’s really cool to share this hobby with you :good:
