I may know the answer to my own question. Is P-Roc not going to be used anymore for any new tables? I’m guessing that the video support of PinUp Player has taken the place of P-Roc? Just curious.

P-ROC is a hardware controller board. Pyprocgame is a python-based framework for coding and controlling real pinball hardware including score display. There was one author (chepas/horsey) who preferred to code with the pyprocgame framework and developed the bridge to VP. He has left the scene. All other works were done for real tables, homebrews and commercial projects. CCC is open source and the author granted permission for me to host the code with the minimal changes necessary to work with VPX. Remaining open source projects are really not much more than demos. For any other projects, no one has been interested in just giving away code and assets.

P-Roc is more a replacement for VPinMAME than something that is a precursor to Pup-Player.

All of this has been superseded by newer technologies, Mission Framework, etc.

But unless an author is really interested in coding for real pinball hardware, they can just use the native VPX command language (vbscript) to code for VPX. Much, much larger code base to learn from.

All true with one correction. Skeletongame is the framework that superseeded pyprocgame since it supports LCD in place of the DMD and direct switches/leds instead of a matrix. SG is used for the following games – TNA, Houdini, Alice Cooper, Oktoberfest and few unreleased titles. So far nobody has made a commercial game with Mission Pinball Framework although Nightmare before Christmas is pretty damn cool!

Frank built WOOLY on the original pyprocgame. The “Predator” saga happened. Matrix pinball was bought to shows in lots of countries. Dutch pinball did BOP 2.0. They also did Big Lebowski but not sure what happened to that as haven’t followed it.

The only thing MPF superseeded was their documentation. At its core it also was a pyrocgame port, but with lots more configuation files to make easier, I guess.
