Terminator 2 (Williams 1991) MEGA Topper+DMD+Wheel Kit

This is a MEGA kit for Terminator 2: Judgment Day (Williams 1991) pinball and your VP cab.

What started out as something simple turned into a fairly large – but super cool. I originally set out to make a topper video like the others I’ve made, but I kept getting more and more ideas of things to add, until it became MEGA!

There are (2) Topper videos included in this kit. One is a new original topper video and the other is the original “teaser” trailer I saw back in early 1990-1991 for Terminator 2 before it was released. It left a lasting impression on me, so I painstakingly resized the video and “shifted” it around so no details were lost. I even went as fair as digitally removing a lot of the dust and scratches that were on the original film negative from the transfer.

The Terminator 2 (Williams 1991) RealColorDMD – SPECIAL EXTRA files is the same as Topper 1, but compressed in BMP avi if you want to run it on your RealColorDMD.

If your cab does not have a Topper Video Screen, and you use a “Virtual DMD”, you can always run the Topper video on your Virtual DMD screen instead!

If you want to only run the Topper in PinballX and not during gameplay with the table, you can turn OFF the Topper when it loads the table, or you can also load the one of the Topper Images (PNG files) … by default, if you have a Topper MP4 video and an Topper image file loaded in PinballX, PinballX will automatically turn OFF the video Topper and substitute the Image file during gameplay so it doesn’t put any additional CPU load on your computer while playing the table.

All DMD Videos & Images: 128×32 px

DMD Videos are compressed in BMP AVI format for razor sharp clarity on RealDMDs and RealColorDMDs.

Now something I noticed with a program like Pinball X front end is that any DMD Videos or Topper Video (or Backglass) with AUDIO, Pinball X doesn’t actually play the AUDIO at all. The only videos PinballX will play the AUDIO from is the table videos.

If you want the topper or DMD AUDIO to play for these videos, the general way is to load the AUDIO as Table Audio in PinballX. One problem: the audio always plays out of sync with the videos.

Here is the “fix”:

I’ve included a Topper + DMD Sync Test Video Package. Simply load the Topper-Sync-Test – 23.98 Video – 1280×720 MP4 as a temporary video for the table, and then load the Topper+DMD-Sync-Test-Audio 0 MP3 audio for the Table audio.

Start PinballX and FIRST switch to another table for a moment. When PinballX first starts up, it is busy handling all the wheel images and data so the initial start is SLOWER than normal. THEN switch back to the Terminator 2 table. Watch the Topper-Sync-Test video and see if the BEEPS in the audio match up to when the screen flashes WHITE during the countdown from 10 to 0.

You can navigate to another table and then back to Terminator 2 to watch it again.

If the video / audio is out of sync, load the Topper+DMD-Sync-Test-Audio .5 Delay.mp3 audio file and that should shift the audio to get into better sync. This shifts the audio to start 5 frames later than the video. If it is STILL out of sync, load the Topper+DMD-Sync-Test-Audio .10 Delay.mp3 (this one is a 10 frame difference) audio and check it again. Etc.

My system / cab uses the .10 delay version and the DMD and Topper are in perfect sync.
