It's time to "transform" the virtual pinball world with this new Transformers: Mega-Tracks PuP-Pack! Featuring over 250 videos, and a new "PuP-Tracks" music option that replaces the original SAM mono music with a new (high quality Stereo) Original Movie Soundtrack played from Pinup Player! A first for SAM based tables!
A video preview of the PuP-Pack with the OST music can be seen here:
https://youtu.be/i5Y8nRuu4aE
System: Visual Pinball X (version 10.5+)
PuP-Pack: Videos, Media, music, PuP-Pack Editor & PuPCapture files by TerryRed
Autobot and Decepticon "Eyes" Toppers: Tarcísio Caleiro
Pinup Player: Nailbuster
This PuP-Pack and the use of it's music was heavily inspired by Rom and SLAMT1LT's excellent Future Pinball table. (some of the music files are from that table)
Features:
-over 250 different videos for each of the 19+ game modes!
-6 different video screens always playing at the same time.
-electrically animated border.
-optional new PuP-Tracks music (that replaces the mono low quality SAM music). Featuring (high quality stereo) Original Movie Soundtracks from the first 3 movies.
-overlay still frame
-Autobot and Decepticon crest and characters that change videos based on which side you choose and what mode you are playing!
-music will change based on what side you choose. Each side's main music will also be different every game.
-different music tracks for every mode in the game.
-Backglass will change it's "Eyes" depending on what side you choose.
-optional Topper "Eyes" videos that also change with what side you choose. (you can change up the backglass video files so they don't change to better match this option)
-works with all cabinet configurations (DMD can be positioned in the bottom text area if required)
-over 220 PuPCapture DMD images being monitored
This PuP-Pack uses the following PuP-screens:
Screen 2 - Backglass (Underlay Video Layer)
Screen 3 - DMD (Text)
Screen 5 - Menu (Decepticon Crest)
Screen 6 - Select (Autobot Crest)
Screen 7 - Other1/Backglass 2 (Decepticons)
Screen 8 - Other2/Topper 2 (Autobots)
Overlay - Frame Layer
Screen 4 - Music (PuP-Tracks, OST) "Optional"
Screen 0 - Topper (Auto / Dec "Eyes") "Optional"
Important! If you have ANY of the above PuP screens "rotated" in the PuP default settings (you shouldn't though), then those same screens will also be rotated in this PuP-Pack!
=============================================================
REQUIREMENTS: IMPORTANT!
Visual Pinball X 10.5 All in One or higher installed (this is to include newest B2S Server):
https://vpinball.com/VPBdownloads/categories/vpx-exes/
PinMAME 3.2 beta or higher installed:
http://vpuniverse.com/forums/topic/3651-sambuild32-beta-thread/
PINUP SYSTEM (1.3.7 or higher):
PinUP System 1.3.6 FULLY installed and PinUP Player setup. (The Pinup Popper front-end is not required for PuP-Packs, for those who use another front-end)
https://vpinball.com/VPBdownloads/pinup-system-player-and-popper-front-end-install/
If you are upgrading from 1.3.5 or lower, you MUST first update to 1.3.6 and install the new dmddevicePUP.dll that comes with the 1.3.6 update, into your VPinMAME folder!
http://www.nailbuster.com/wikipinup/doku.php?id=release_notes
Then you need to update FROM 1.3.6 TO to 1.3.7 (until a newer update comes out). If these updates are not properly installed, then this PuP-Pack will not work correctly! (make sure there are no blocked files)
http://www.nailbuster.com/pinupdates/PinUPSystem_update_1_3_7.zip
DMDEXT:
DMDExt 1.71 (32 bit/x86 files only!) or higher installed in your VPinMAME folder and configured to enable PUPCapture!
This PuP-Pack relies on monitoring the freezy dmdext DMD for specific images to trigger videos and music (PuPCapture). This needs both the freezy 1.71+ "dmddevice.dll" file, and the Pinup Player "dmddevicePUP.dll" file in your VPinMAME folder.
Ensure PuPCapture is enabled in the dmddevice.ini file (in your VPinMAME folder):
[pinup]
enabled=true
Note: If you are using a real DMD, then ensure that the freezy virtual DMD is disabled in the dmddevice.ini file:
; a DMD that renders with nice dots on a computer monitor
[virtualdmd]
enabled = false
PINMAME:
In the PinMAME settings for the Transformers tf_180 rom (press F1 during gameplay):
- you must have "Use External DMD (DLL)" enabled. This will enable the freezy dmdext dmddevice.dll to be used, which is needed for PuPCapture.
- have "Ignore Rom CRC Errors" enabled. (to allow the use of a custom rom)
DMDs can now be ANY colour (or DMD colour mod) you want! This is a NEW feature with Freezy 1.71 files installed! There is no longer a requirement to have your DMD a specific colour for PuP-Packs in VPX!
Your DMD must be in English for all PuPCapture video triggers to work correctly!
PinUPPlayerB2SDriver and B2S SERVER SETTINGS:
Be sure that your PuPB2s Driver and B2S server settings are setup and working correctly so you don't get any errors.
http://www.nailbuster.com/wikipinup/doku.php?id=puppack_troubleshoot
NO DIRECTB2S BACKGLASS RUNNING:
You MUST NOT have a directb2s running at all, or it will obscure the PuP Backglass!!!
Simply make sure you have a copy of your favorite Transformers table (intended only for use with this PuP-Pack), and make sure it is named VERY differently to your directb2s file, so when you launch that copy of your table it won't launch the directb2s!
FRONT-END MEDIA DISABLED FOR TRANSFORMERS TABLE:
Make sure you have no media displayed on your Backglass and Topper when launching the table from a front-end.
Pinball X: In Games Manager, make sure you have "Hide Topper" and "Hide Backglass" enabled for the table you are using.
Popper: In Games Manager, for the table you are using, enter -1 In the "Keep Displays ON" field (to not use Popper media on ALL Displays when launching the table)
================================================
INSTALLATION:
Ensure there are no files in your "PUPVideos" "tf_180" folder (if that folder already exists).
Copy the PuP-Pack "tf_180" folder from the zip archive into your PUPVideos folder.
OST Movie Music (optional). To enable the PuP-Tracks music:
-you MUST use my custom "Muted Music Rom" version of the tf_180.zip Rom file. Copy the tf_180.zip from the "TF_PuP-Muted Music Rom.zip" to your VPinMAME Roms folder (backup your original tf_180.zip file). This is required because SAM tables cannot have their music turned down or reduced by either VPX or the table's Service Menu. I made this custom version of the rom with all the game's music muted so it will allow only the PuP-Pack to play music for the game.
-edit the tf_180 PuP-Pack with the PuP-Pack Editor, and change Screen 4 (Music) to "Show". Then Save.
-run the PinUpPlayerConfigDisplays.bat in the "PinupSystem" folder, and make sure your Music screen "Default State" is set to "Hide Always" (Sound Only)
PuP-Tracks OST Music ONLY Pack:
If you only want to have the PuP-Tracks OST Music and NO Videos, then I have also included a "TF-PuP-Tracks OST Music Only Pack.zip". Just copy the "tf_180" folder from the zip archive into your "PupVideos", and use the custom rom from the "TF_PuP-Muted Music Rom.zip".
"EYES" and Topper / Unders:
-during gameplay the Backglass will change it's robot "eyes" animation to whatever side you choose in the game. You can also have this animation show up on your "Topper-Under" monitor (if you have one). Use the PuP-Pack Editor to change the Topper (Screen 0) to Force ON and save. Then copy the files from the Topper (21:9 screen) or Under (wider screen) zip archive into your "PuPVideos" "tf_180" folder.
-if you don't want the Backglass to change its "eyes" from the default image, then remove the files in the "Backglass_Autobots" and "Backglass_Decepticons" folders. Then copy the video from "Backglass_Backgrounds" to those same folders.
================================================
PROBLEMS:
The “eyes” video switching (when you choose your side) only works correctly for one player (or the last player to choose). There is nothing in the DMD I can use to identify player 1 or 2 , etc to make it work beyond the last player who chose their side.
If you have video stuttering or artifacts with PuP-Packs with VPX... you most likely don't have VSYNC properly setup in VPX. Set "FPS Limiter/VSYNC" to 1, and "Maximum Pre-Rendered Frames" to 1 in VPX Video Options. This can also be set per-table in the Table's "User Customization" options, so check that as well.
Having certain programs running in the background can also cause issues as they may interfere with VLC or prevent Overlays from displaying. Try closing out other programs / processes to see if that helps resolve any issues.
If the OST music "during gameplay" isn't working correctly then you probably didn't update correctly.
To make it CLEAR. You MUST be updated "properly" to Pinup System 1.3.7 for this Pack to work "correctly"! Some videos may not be triggering, and the OST Music PuP-Tracks will NOT work correctly without that update! Full instructions for updating and the links are in the Description under REQUIREMENTS.
For other issues with getting a PuP-Pack to work, refer to the wiki:
http://www.nailbuster.com/wikipinup/doku.php?id=puppack_troubleshoot
Ensure you have read ALL of the requirements needed in the Description FIRST!

I got it working tonight as well with the muted rom. It’s pretty glorious. This weekend I will demand my wife plays this so that I can admire the pup backglass work you’ve done here. I am seriously floored. Thanks terry and anyone else who may have helped you
this also offered the opportunity for me to install the front end so I’ll configure it and try it out this weekend

September 21, 2018 at 4:01 am #98870Hi, great pup pack.. unfortunately for me pinupdisplay crashes out after a few minutes (no pattern). Got the latest version of everything, pup, vpx, sam, freezy and have tried changing at91jit as well.
Other packs appear to continue to work ok.

Newest b2s server?
Be sure you don’t have blocked files.
When updating to 1.3.6, did you copy dmdevicepup.dll to vpinmame?
Are you using dmdext 32bit x86, and not 64bit?
Delete the nvram for the table, and run the table on its own with no pup-pack and normal rom to be sure its not pup-related.
Be sure you only have the 32 bit 2.2.8 version of VLC installed.

September 21, 2018 at 10:48 am #98885Thanks, checked the above… latest B2S, Defender disabled so no blockedfiles, dmddevicepup.dll in place, 32bit dmdext, 32bit vlc 2.2.8. Table works ok with original rom/backglass.
Tried with original rom and music in pup off – still fails (i.e. pinupdisplay crashes & pup backglass disappears but game continues on). So the modded rom doesn’t appear to be the issue.
It seems like if I disable screens 5,6,7 & 8 in pupeditor then pinupdisplay doesn’t crash when table run (I say seems because the crash can happen in 10secs or >10mins so I’m trying to be sure).
I’ll continue on to see if I can narrow it down further..

Chances are either your update process of PuP missed something, or there is something running in the background that is interfering. Are you running this just through VPX or through a front-end?

September 21, 2018 at 11:06 am #98887Just running straight through VPX at the moment.
I’ll get the updates for 1.3.6 & 1.3.7 re-applied to make sure.

Other pup-packs ran fine? What’s your system like…maybe resources are kind of low…like ram, etc?

September 21, 2018 at 12:29 pm #98891Yep, other packs run fine.
System is i5 cpu, gtx 1060 6gb, 16GB ram, 128GB SSD for main drive (45GB free), 3 screens (no topper), 4k playfield, HD backglass. No performance/lag/stutter issues on any tables, everything runs smooth with AA off etc, graphics settings as recommended.
Not aware of any bottlenecks!

Your system is good.
What specific packs and versions run fine? I ask because they may not use an overlay which this pack does, etc.
In fact this Pack is less demanding than Tron Max Pack for example.
Your the first to have “crashing” specifically with PuP with this specific pack, so I can’t help but think something got missed in the setup or update process, or you have a program running in the background causing problems. I’ve seen Logitech Gaming software cause crashes as an example.
Did you setup your screens like I show in my setup video for Pinup System? Be sure you don’t have ANY PuP Screens setup incorrectly or using a negative value position! This pack uses 6 PuP screens and an Overlay. If disabling those other screens stops crashing, then either they are somehow setup wrong by default (or bad PuP update), or something you have running may be interfering.

September 21, 2018 at 1:41 pm #98899i FINALLY figured mine out and it is now working. But can you tell me how i can keep the position of the DMD screen to stay the same? I have to manually drag it to the screen every time.

Do tell use what is was! Maybe it can help someone else…
You dont have a 3rd screen for your DMD? So you mean the freezy DMD? and you need that positioned on the backglass? You edit the dmddevice.ini for this specific table…
Try adding:
[tf_180]
virtualdmd enabled = true
virtualdmd left = 2500
virtualdmd top = 800
virtualdmd width = 1024
virtualdmd height = 256and edit those values for where you need the DMD positioned so it will fit at the bottom center of the backglass…or wherever you need it.

i do have a 3rd monitor for DMD, so yes i was talking about the Freezy DMD, so i need to keep that position. Now im trying to reduce the video stutter. i have tried to change the vsync to 1 and the Maximum Pre-Rendered Frames to 1, but when i do the videos show beautiful, but the table is just terrible stutter. So i may have to find a better solution.
to get my system working i was missing the part about setting up the “rules” in the following files:
dmddevice.ini
DmdDevice.log.config
as shown here: http://www.nailbuster.com/wikipinup/doku.php?id=upgrade_freezy
i found this when i was trying to figure out why i did not have the PUPlog.txt file in my VPINMAME folder

Get your DMD positioned correctly FIRST so its not interfering with your PF screen. Then try these settings, but with whatever resolution you use.

September 21, 2018 at 2:53 pm #98908…also if you are using freezy now specifically with a 3rd screen…you can just ignore adding this for that one table:
[tf_180]
virtualdmd enabled = true
virtualdmd left = 2500
virtualdmd top = 800
virtualdmd width = 1024
virtualdmd height = 256
..and just edit the dmddevice.ini for ALL tables for the virtual position and size of the freezy dmd:
; x-axis of the window position
left = 0
; y-axis of the window position
top = 500
; width of the dmd in monitor pixels
width = 512
; height of the dmd in monitor pixels
height = 128You need to login in order to like this post: click here

Well with screens 5 to 8 disabled pinupdisplay was in fact still crashing, just a lot less frequently. You were right though it was a background process causing the issue, I had RTSS frame limiter still running from a previous incarnation of a graphics card… I’ve disabled that and everything is running absolutely great now!!
Why it caused an issue limiting frame rate to 59.98hz on this pup pack causing pinup to crash out I have no idea, while other packs the new T2 from nailbuster, avatar and tron (can’t remember which one I plumped for in the end!) ran ok. Weird… but it’s all good now! Just glad it wasn’t an embarrassing school boy error on copy files across for the install!.

September 23, 2018 at 6:54 pm #99104Hi
I’m trying to work with the table transformers and pup pack.
I made the step by step of every necessary installation.
I am using pinup 1.3.7 but upon entering the table my knocker is firing awake.
I’m afraid to burn it.
What could it be?
I added the pup pack and the rom tf_80 of “PuP-Muted Music Rom.zip” and the original rom kept in the roms folder as tf_80 (2).
I tested the table without pup-pack and the problem persisted.
This is only happening in this table.
The other pup-packs also work for me.
Please, would anyone have any idea what might be happening? You need to login in order to like this post: click here
