As a note, the ROM actually talks more smack than whatever Magic Pixel was doing with their simulation. I think this is going to make sure the commercial sim software isn’t going back on the cabinet.

Booyah, now I can just plain keep the Zaccaria Pinball program off my cabinet for good (their multiple screen support has now been broken one whole month). Thanks goldchicco.

Yeah, I was able to play it once at Hyperspace… and that was certainly enough for me. Interesting concept, but no real legs once you get past the novelty.

OK, that’s a little beyond what I’m willing to do to the spare PCB right now, especially since we already have a Raspberry Pi in the cabinet, so we already have Asteroids Deluxe available.

Huh. I’ll have to try that with the spare screen if I can find the instructions to access it. When we bought the Asteroids from a local guy, he had a spare screen with PCB for it he’d gotten in “just in case”. And I didn’t dismantle the old control panel to make the mod, just replaced it with a piece of MDF.

We do have one real pin – Solar Ride (Gottlieb 1979) – and we have Radiant Silverball, our virtual cabinet.
We do want to get another pin, but it’s a matter of timing, money, and COVID.
BTW, Twinitron came about in part because the attempt at trigger stick covers on Legacy of the Stick really didn’t pan out to my satisfaction – it had a level of fiddle just to take them on and off, and the covers weren’t really secure enough to make Assault viable.

*casts a Resurrection spell on the thread*
So, added a few more things… including MORE Arcade1Up goodness.
First, the stupidest yet most awesome thing we’ve done thus far… a set of arcade racing chairs (in this case, off a Ridge Racer 5), with their speakers and subwoofers wired to external amps and tied into the sound system of our Console Room. I can feel the rumble strips in my butt when I play Forza on the projector screen. :P
And the current Arcade1Up/other lineup… from left to right:
Original Asteroids with aftermarket marquee, and further modded with a Raspberry Pi and new control panel… we call it “Twinitron”, it does twin trigger sticks and a SPINNER (with a directional rocker in it, it came off an arcade Ghox), so we can play Tron/Discs of Tron/Assault/etc.
The MVSX. Yes, we can do this off Legacy of the Stick, but it’s handy to have the option.
Golden Tee. I consider this to be something of the “dark horse” of the collection, as I’ve enjoyed it way more than I expected, and I actually did expect to enjoy it.
Star Wars (natch)
Space Invaders Countercade.
Centipede Countercade (covers another trackball game, may well be modded soon, Missile Command is NOT a good fit for the form factor)
Ms. Pac Man Countercade. I have something of a soft spot for this one, as that was one of the two arcade games in the hospital therapy unit I was in as a teenager.

Yeah, the legs splay out a bit by design for stability.
Be careful with used legs. We bought two sets worth for $40 when we were ramping up for building Radiant Silverball – old Bally bingo machine legs. We got maybe a full really decent set and a usable but not ideal set (some of the legs were twisted slightly), and still had to strip and repaint them as the red enamel on them was in really bad shape. We got up to enough money into the refinishing (paint, paint stripper, and a spinny bit for the drill meant for removing paint) that it probably would have been about as much to just buy a set of new legs anyway. They do look pretty good on the machine (the cabinet art is really the standout on the cabinet, the legs don’t detract), and it’s not like we’re actively looking at the legs when we’re playing.

March 11, 2021 at 4:54 pm in reply to: Please help me with vanishing Full dmd>…………>&^%$#$%^&* #228848…have you tried actually uninstalling ALL the drivers for the video card via the Device Manager and reinstalling them? I’m wondering if there’s a holdover from the 970 configuration that’s interfering with the 1080 configuration/driver installation, making it unable to reliably address the Display Port.
It could be the cards may well be different enough that it matters and Windows itself may not be recognizing that it does – Windows 10 is REALLY REALLY SUPER BAD at maintaining the nVidia driver for the user during the regular software updating process (one of my personal processes for updating Windows is to download nVidia’s own update and apply it after a major Windows Update, because Windows Update can and will bork my ability to render via iRay), and it wouldn’t surprise me if it also works in reverse – “oh, it’s just another nVidia card, I don’t need to update this software to match” and then getting confused because the particular port is actually addressed differently. Yes, the DisplayPort implementations are a little different for each (1.4a on the 970, 1.42 on the 1080, nVidia makes this really hard to find out, especially for an older card they’d prefer we all retire, so I’m not sure I have the correct information), and it could be that the added features available on the 1080 are causing the driver to fail to read the port.
Note that the feature changes in the 1080 could also mean that your cable is actually not usable with the card and the screen. Yes, it should gracefully fall to the lower standard the cable supports and still work, but I’ve never considered that a guarantee.

…which table build? There’s at least three versions of Medieval Madness, for instance.
This has already been asked by others, and the answer is that the community views such functionality as little better than a scraper that just grabs everything.
Hells, randr has made noise in a video about the SPREADSHEET that merely compiles where everything is.
Providing “automatic” updates does a number of things: someone has to basically make this their FULL TIME JOB to maintain whatever engine is doing the updating because there are three different mechanisms and then THEY are also having to support all the tables rather than the individual authors of those tables, and it flies in the face of the expectation that this isn’t a “fire and forget” sort of hobby; it’s meant to be fairly DIY and you do need to get into some level of interaction with the community.

The table has three options for a three screen setup… UltraDMD (runs in FlexDMD), or two options on PinUp Player if you install the PuP-Pack. It’s not really set up for two screen use right now. With some work, you can get any of the above into the backglass area and “on top”.

It’s a focus issue (read: which program window is at the front). Part of PinUp Player is focused instead of Visual Pinball.

I actually went the separate power supply route, but I went with actual individual power supplies for each “rail” I needed (5v for LEDs, 12v for Fans, Relays and LEDs, 24v for Coils), so that I know what the headroom is, and it’s easy to replace/upgrade each rail supply as needed.

January 5, 2021 at 8:25 pm in reply to: Masters of the Universe (VPX) – PuP-Pack – Royal Boob Edition #218362Yeah, PostDMD is the option you want for a 16×9 ratio LCD display.
So, pick the type of backglass, then what type of topper if you want one, then add the PostDMD onto that, and you should hopefully be good.
