Buck Rogers (Gottlieb 1980)
So I believe I first played this machine at the Pacific NW Pinball show last June. Kriss and I both really enjoyed it, along with Count-Down as two of our favorites of the show (also Capersville and Laser Cue, yes we are old :) ). While I now own a Count-Down machine, Buck Rogers is still at the top of my list of system 1 machines to acquire. In the mean time having them done in VPX will be a fun alternative. This started out as an upgrade to Sindbad's vp9 table found over on VPF. Hauntfreaks did the inital layout and lighting etc in VPX last summer from a beta sindbad had put out during the vp10 beta phase and it's been mostly hanging out since then. I rebuilt all the code, keeping mainly the vari-target scripting form Sindbad's table, found some nicer plastic images courtesy of the interwebs and went to town this week. New the top of the script is a line that currently reads "Const VT_Delay_Factor = .88". What this line does is controls how fast the vari-target slows down the captive ball that hit's it. The smaller the number the more it slows it down. I'm not sure exactly where this number should be, but I do know a couple things: 1. it is possible to set the vari-target to the very back in one shot, I've seen it done in videos, 2. .8 I think makes it too hard to every achieve the 1 shot reset of the vari-target, 3. .95 makes it too easy to make that shot. So somewhere in the middle is where we sit. I have not yet made it in one hit with the current settings, but I have come close, it takes a timing shot with momentum on the ball to make it happen. Feel free to play with this variable and report back what happens. While I have an image that I believe is slightly better, wildman has a nice db2s over on VPU, http://vpuniverse.com/forums/files/file/2342-buck-rogersgottlieb-1980/ I did use my image for making the desktop backdrop. As usual my settings are for portrait mode, I have included a landscape.xml that you can import an get you close if you have your cabinet setup the wrong way. Read More -
Metallica Premium (Stern 2013)
Metallica Premium (Stern 2013). AKA: Monsters or Road Case or Master of Puppets or LE. (I use the Monsters BG from Wildmand @ VPU) Mod built off of @Freneticamnesic sweet Metallica Pro release. Thanks to him for that! Thanks to @Jim5Six for resources (pics, sounds, measurements, etc) from his real Met pin. Check the Script for MOD OPTIONS. Could use a better hammer model, but the one there gets the job done. Requires lastest VPM with SAM expansion board support. If you grabbed a version of this table from that VPM beta thread, this one has many changes since then. As always my FS settings are for a Portrait mode windows. I have included a .xml for landscape to use you need it. It's pretty generic so use the Camera tool to adjust to your liking. Read More -
Royal Flush (Gottlieb 1976)
For those of you with more friends than I have, I did a quick conversion of my Card Whiz into the 4 player Royal Flush. The table is identical, just changed the backdrop, put the score reels back in view (my base template is 4 player so scripted Card Whiz with this in mind) and built a new directb2s to go with it from images found online. Doctor Who (Bally 1992)
Doctor Who (Bally 1992) v2.0. Finally putting out an update with all new changes. I teamed up with Rothbauerw to finally get this out. New backbox for FSS and VR support, new physics, new models, new graphics and new sounds! Roth and I send thanks to Fleep (sounds), Bord (prim PF), ClarkKent (graphics). Plus all the other folks who we have gotten bits and pieces from over time. v1.2.2 original info below Doctor Who (Bally 1992) For VPX 10.2. You'll need the newest VPM with Modulation support. Originally based on the VP9 table from oooPLAYER1ooo & Unclewilly. Thanks to them for that version. Only a few bits left after the conversion. I used images I found on the web so there are some that are not that great, but they work ok. EDIT: New plastic images from Fuzzel! Read More -
DOF Test Table VPX
DOF Test table update of randr's version. I added chimes, corrected a couple calls, switched some objects to vpx style, adjusted the physics to vpx, and mostly added a keyboard overlay with scripting that allows you to fire most of the toys with keystrokes. of course I think I ended up with it in portrait mode again as I was testing on my cab, so most of you will need to rotate. http://vpinball.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/Capture.jpg Read More -
Card Whiz (Gottlieb 1976)
Gottlieb's 1976 Card Whiz. This 2 player table was also made in a much more common 4 player version, Royal Flush. I'm partial to 2 player machines, so made Card Whiz, but it would be a fairly easy conversion to Royal Flush if there is enough demand for the 4 player as well (I don't have that many friends). As far as I can tell this truly em scripted version of royal Flush or Card Whiz has not been made in vp before, although there was a couple versions that used the 1983 Royal Flush Deluxe rom with this playfield (no I don't know the gameplay differences), and there is an FP version as well. the playfield started with Popette's FP version, and has been much modified/upscaled/stretched etc to more accurately match images of stripped playfields I found as well as better match the playfield map from the Royal Flush manual which I found online (don't tell Steve @ PBR). Most if not all the insert images were replaced with better copies I found on line. The image for the backglass came from a collection by Scott Amus on flickr. Couple things I'm not sure on, the first is the ball return gate. The rollover on the right opens the gate so the ball can return to the plunger lane. I'm fairly certain that once it does the trigger in the plunger lane closes the gate and also fairly certain the kick hole on the right side of the playfield also closes it, just not sure if those are the only things?? The rollover in the plunger lane would also be triggered and close the ball return gate on the next plunge. The other thing that I'm not sure of is that post on the left side that deflects balls coming down from the upper left joker rollovers. In watching videos there seems to be some wide variety in how that deflects, and actually a lot of times it seems to not get hit at all which happens very rarely on my version. I'm pretty sure I have it in the right spot, but I think something above that may be causing the ball to miss it.. again not sure, having never actually played on in the wild that I can recall. Directb2s included, hold down left flipper before starting a game to get some options. As usual thanks to everyone for everything, blah blah blah.. Read More -
Joker Poker EM (Gottlieb 1978)
Here is an update to my Joker Poker EM table that I last updated about a year ago over on vpf. Main reason for the update was the drop target scripting was not working right the way I had it after a couple VP updates. So I figured what the heck and added a bunch of new primitives, some more animations, new desktop backdrop, a high score sticky note with initials and some new/different sounds. Thanks to all who provided stuff to the community that I used, dark and sliderpoint in particular for some primitives, and loserman76 for some scripting I borrowed from Target Alpha. Hold down left flipper button before starting a game for some options (added a freeplay option to the balls and replays). And of course as usual the FS backdrop settings are for my cab which has the playfield in portrait orientation. Let me know of any bugs/issues/feedback in the support topic please. Thanks! Target Alpha (Gottlieb 1976)
A conversation in the El Dorado City of Gold prompted me to do an update of loserman76's VP9 Target Alpha. This table is primarily script, graphics and sounds from Jeff's (loserman76) table, with everything updated to work in VPX and some things changed over to my version and stuff added. Options menu changed to my versions and accessed by holding down left flipper before starting a game. Hi Score tape changed to my version, still usual keys to work (left/right flipper to highlight letter, startgame to select). DOF config updated a bit but should work fine, DOFchimes have been added and configuration submitted on configtool site. Works with loserman's directB2S found on vpforums. Still some piddly little things I want to add, but would appreciate any and all feedback, it's been a while since I've played a real on of this family of tables. Read More -
El Dorado City of Gold VPX
This was the last pin produced by Mylstar and production was continued by Premier. It is also the last game designed by Ed Krynski for Gottlieb/Mylstar. The models for the explorers on the backglass were two Gottlieb employees, Jeri Knighton and Jeff Lee (Gottlieb video game artist). Gottlieb 1984 - Aztec Jungle Theme This is a MOD of theGhost787 and 32assassins table. I'm not sure what it is about this table but it intrigued me when I first saw it. It is a slower table but it is challenging. Script is by 32assassin, and table start by theGhost787. I did a partial redraw of the play field just to line everything up a bit better. Enhanced the colors a bit. Also moved around the table elements and lights to match the play field and to make it play and look more like the videos online. If we could get a good play field and plastics scan this table would really come to life. I used what resources were available online (and there are not many). I have never played the real table but have watched some youtube videos. So physics are adjusted to match them the best I could. Enjoy, I know I have enjoyed working on it. Big thanks to Thalamus and Outhere for getting the script corrected and adding DOF and SFF. This pushed me to update a few things. I added nfozzy's table and flipper physics. Ninuzzu's ball and flipper shadows are now incorporated as well. Finally, updated some smaller graphics and plastics that have been bugging me for a while. This table does not have a good table or plastics scan so things aren't exactly right. We did the best with what we had. It still plays pretty good and it is a challenging table. Still - If anyone has any high resolution resources for this table please let me know. Read More -
Dracula (Stern 1979)
Why Stern's Dracula? Primarily because I was able to get a great looking PF scan from a Pinside member. It is also a cool Harry Williams design. Is it just about the most cluttered art design I've ever seen? Probably. Is it fun to play? Yup. Use ROM "dracula". The ROM emulation doesn't seem to be 100%. The chime solenoids don't register at all so you'll have to run it, then F6 and select "Computer Type Sounds" in order to get ROM audio. B2S available in table download. Read More
