Joust (Williams 1983) VPX
Joust (Williams 1983) See the 'Project' here: http://vpinball.com/bb_project/you-never-saw-this-coming-completed/ Only someone crazy and weird enough to do tables like Hercules and Mad Scientist would be willing to team up with me to create this historic freak beast of an early 80's specialty pinball. Luckily that crazy weirdo mad scientist is Randr and he's a good friend of mine so together we made this happen and made it as legit as possible despite facing many hurdles. Special thanks for Unclewilly for help with lighting and the primitive inserts as well as a special thanks to Borgdog for the in game menu system! Also thanks to ICPjuggla for some inserts. Another special thanks necessary for Frenitcamnesic for help with some bug fixing. The resources for this table are all pretty terrible so I basically redrew EVERYTHING. This even includes all the text which was done by hand since there was no font that's an exact match. Aprons: I've seen pics with a variety of combinations of either both black, or blue and black with either player 1 or 2 being the blue side. So if you look at the top of the script you can choose what color you want for either P1 or P2's apron. Needless to say just about everything on the table is a 3D modelled element. Everything had to be positioned in 3D so that it would match the PF angles. The game isn't absolutely perfect due to the lack of resources especially but we did our best to bring you the ONLY head to head pinball experience! To give the table more playability and a potential wider audience players have several different game modes to choose from: 1. Single player (player controls both sets of flippers) 2. Player vs CPU(easy) (Auto-flippers) 3. Player vs CPU(hard) (Auto-flippers) 4. Player vs Player* *Second player controls are mapped to magna save by default. You can hook up a controller to your cab or desktop and set the magna save keys to what ever you like in the VP preferences->keys. Some different backdrop settings for FS are available. 1. Single Player FS view (has depth that favours single player 2. 2 Player FS view (is a birds eye view with even view for both players, flat). Real DMD videos for non DMD tables
This is a collection of small avi videos I made for my cab, most of them will display a loop of manufacturer logo and then year at 3 seconds each, they are made at 128x32 which was no easy task on some logos they look pretty good on a real DMD though. I don't think they will work to good on a monitor dmd. The new update has one for every year of most manufacturers the are generic you just copy and rename Read More -
The Simpsons (Data East 1990)
Took 32assassin's backglass and added the info/graphics from the grill to the main backglass.. I have a pin2dmd and a real grill so I always hide the backglass grills. Trouble is there is often info on the grill that I miss when I do that. This edit allows me to hide the grill but still have the info. All credit goes to the original authors/artists/etc so 32assassin, wildman, chriz99 and JR if I remember correctly. Read More -
Terminator 3 (Stern 2003)(coyo5050)
*****EDIT 3/21/17**** Added the targets on the backglass "playfield", added lighting effects to give it more of a 3D look and added a ball shooting animation. No way to control because of how db2s works, it but it looks real nice. ******************************* My first backglass from scratch! A directb2s does not exist for this game so I decided to make one. I know there are issues with the interactive part and that has stopped people from making one before but I figure something is better than nothing. Found an image to start with and spent some time cleaning it up. Tied some lights in to the correct lamps the rest can be considered what I just thought would look nice. What's New in Version 1.1.0 Released February 7 - Did a lot of work on the backglass image and it is a lot nicer now. - Made up some high rez inserts to replace the placeholders. - Flashers/GI should all be authentic now. - Added grill - Made all the graphics and started the animation for the RPG. Not realistic just eye candy now. Read More -
NFL (Stern 2001) Bears (coyo5050)
Didn't see a Chicago Bears backglass for Stern's 2001 NFL, so I made one. Couldn't find much in the way of resources so this is built completely from scratch with a lot of images being original creations by me. Because of this you will see some small differences from the exact original. Table uses animation snippets to make it more interesting. Original Bears backglass does not have the NFL logo on it compared to many others which seems odd to me. I might update and add it later. Backglass is built in Photoshop so the way it is done with layers it should be pretty easy to make other teams if there is enough interest. Xenonph is making/modding some new VPX NFL tables that look really nice. I have also considered just releasing the PSD file in the future for others to mod. If I do so I would give permission to mod, no asking required as long as credit is given. No permission will be granted to make a Packers version Read More -
Robo-War (Gottlieb 1988) (coyo5050)
Ok, so I decided to find some alternate sources and edit/clean up to make a new image. I also added several animation snippets to give this some life, but still subtle and not over the top. Lasers look like they are firing and targets getting hit, etc. LED reel is on the backglass image so you can see scores and stuff. Read More -
TX-Sector (Gottlieb 1988) (coyo5050)
Edited and cleaned up a couple different sources to make a much better backglass graphic. -
Bluto 3D by Dark (Popeye saves the Earth)
https://sketchfab.com/models/36e0367aba544ecbab7aba2ef318eb69 A high poly sculpt was made in ZBRush which was then optimised and through the use of normal maps retains a high level of detail. Please note I have made the textures at 2048x2048(quality), you can downsize them to 1024x1024 or 512x512. Read More -
Buck Rogers (Gottlieb 1980)
So I believe I first played this machine at the Pacific NW Pinball show last June. Kriss and I both really enjoyed it, along with Count-Down as two of our favorites of the show (also Capersville and Laser Cue, yes we are old :) ). While I now own a Count-Down machine, Buck Rogers is still at the top of my list of system 1 machines to acquire. In the mean time having them done in VPX will be a fun alternative. This started out as an upgrade to Sindbad's vp9 table found over on VPF. Hauntfreaks did the inital layout and lighting etc in VPX last summer from a beta sindbad had put out during the vp10 beta phase and it's been mostly hanging out since then. I rebuilt all the code, keeping mainly the vari-target scripting form Sindbad's table, found some nicer plastic images courtesy of the interwebs and went to town this week. New the top of the script is a line that currently reads "Const VT_Delay_Factor = .88". What this line does is controls how fast the vari-target slows down the captive ball that hit's it. The smaller the number the more it slows it down. I'm not sure exactly where this number should be, but I do know a couple things: 1. it is possible to set the vari-target to the very back in one shot, I've seen it done in videos, 2. .8 I think makes it too hard to every achieve the 1 shot reset of the vari-target, 3. .95 makes it too easy to make that shot. So somewhere in the middle is where we sit. I have not yet made it in one hit with the current settings, but I have come close, it takes a timing shot with momentum on the ball to make it happen. Feel free to play with this variable and report back what happens. While I have an image that I believe is slightly better, wildman has a nice db2s over on VPU, http://vpuniverse.com/forums/files/file/2342-buck-rogersgottlieb-1980/ I did use my image for making the desktop backdrop. As usual my settings are for portrait mode, I have included a landscape.xml that you can import an get you close if you have your cabinet setup the wrong way. Read More -
Metallica Premium (Stern 2013)
Metallica Premium (Stern 2013). AKA: Monsters or Road Case or Master of Puppets or LE. (I use the Monsters BG from Wildmand @ VPU) Mod built off of @Freneticamnesic sweet Metallica Pro release. Thanks to him for that! Thanks to @Jim5Six for resources (pics, sounds, measurements, etc) from his real Met pin. Check the Script for MOD OPTIONS. Could use a better hammer model, but the one there gets the job done. Requires lastest VPM with SAM expansion board support. If you grabbed a version of this table from that VPM beta thread, this one has many changes since then. As always my FS settings are for a Portrait mode windows. I have included a .xml for landscape to use you need it. It's pretty generic so use the Camera tool to adjust to your liking. Read More
