Personally, I would lean towards VPM emulation for many of the start button related issues. The main reason(s) I say that is because nothing in Fren’s code stands out as an issue to me (other than maybe he decided to push the fire button when you plunge the ball?), though I haven’t done any in-depth trouble shooting (not that I’m very good at it anyway).
Plus, there’s the fact that SAM emulation isn’t nearly as mature as WPC emulation, nor is it as active (that I know of, but I could be wrong). A quick testament to that possibility is that the solenoids that control the gates in the back loop aren’t emulated at all (52, 53… somewhere in there); or that the GI isn’t emulated (or if it is, no one has told the table authors). Or it could be related to the SAM.vbs?
I don’t complain though because the whole rigmarole behind the unwritten agreement with the original VPM devs and Mr. Stern about SAM emulation, then people not respecting that agreement and making the emulation anyway, then people like me who play this questionable material anyway (but I do it because I personally am not choosing to play a VP SAM table OVER paying to play, so I know as far as I’m concerned, Stern, a distributor, a local establishment has not lost a single penny because I play SAM emulated tables in VP). I’m just glad I get to play it at all, even if it’s not perfect.
