@randr, there are so many things you can do that I can’t – look at that Ice Cold Beer build – so right back at you.
Glad you’re halfway enjoying the project!

April 29, 2020 at 9:24 am #176284Added wood rails today but didn’t get my measurements right. Hats off to @borgdog for noticing. The wood rails should be 1.125″ tall. In the video I make them 1″.

Pt12 – Today I show two different approaches to making metal ball guides.
Sorry these aren’t a true tutorial – if I did one for every step of the way this project couldn’t be a daily thing and we’d never finish Seawitch. If you want anything clarified I am happy to revisit stuff in more detail in the future.

Just a quick metal post model. Didn’t love the amount of work I had to do to previous ones to get the subsurf modifier working and this one is scaled to my satisfaction (until @borgdog tells me I did it wrong).
See you Monday.

Sorry guys, mostly busy work today and tomorrow. You can see by the drop in total views how exciting these are as we get more and more detailed.

May 4, 2020 at 11:01 am #177535I may not be looking at the entire videos but they are fascinating. Having no knowledge of blender, it’s in “foreign language” territory for me lol. In saying that, they are absolutely a treasure and I know if anyone asks “how the heck can you use blender to help create a VPX pinball table”, I’m pointing them to this thread!

May 4, 2020 at 11:59 am #177549Thanks, Rob. I hope so. If I weren’t so tired of listening to myself talk I would consider doing a classic Stern follow-up where I throw together Meteor using all the pieces I built in this video and show how once Seawitch is done accurately a new project with these elements takes a fraction of the time.

May 4, 2020 at 12:01 pm #177550Drop in views ?! Well, you ain’t dropping this guy  Honestly. I think this will work just as good if not better as a future reference. I can’t currently follow what you are doing, but maybe one day I can. At least, I can, if I need to do something, ask and point to min/sec of these videos.

May 4, 2020 at 12:08 pm #177553Drop in views ?!
Yeah, some of this is an experiment in content creation for me so I’m watching the metrics closely. Not for an ego boost or anything. I’m not going to quit or pout based on numbers. Just really curious what size an audience would be interested in process videos, what elements would be most interesting (plunger lane modeling was, apparently), and what video length is tolerable. That all helps me figure out what I can do better or what topics might be best to do a detailed tutorial on in the future. If I had done each one of these as a straight tutorial it would have been a soul-crushing amount of work so this will help me figure out where to put my energy in the future.

I have some catching up to do but these vids are fascinating.

I think we’ll be done with the bottom half the playfield-level stuff by week’s end.

Still perfecting my approach to this one. Took a few more takes than I’d like to get it right(ish).

May 6, 2020 at 9:45 am #178092Don’t you already have models of all the aprons? or you just doing this for our benefit.

I mostly took this on to try to correct some modeling mistakes I made when I did the Stern Dracula apron. More or less a mental exercise in better modeling. It also let me build out the screen printing templates for this art style since I have a few other Sterns I’d like to tackle yet.
Plus this one is to scale in inches so I don’t have to do mess with the usual scale conversion problems I have between VP units and inches after importing into Blender. The math never comes out the way I think it should (which tells you just how robust a mind you’re dealing with here)…
