This is my first WIP thread and i’m not really sure where this will go. I’m not a huge fan of WIP’s but this is the last full table i’m doing so i thought you can not hate what you don’t know, let’s try it. Maybe something good will come out of this, maybe it’s getting on my nerves real quick, i don’t know! We’ll see.
First of all i want to thank 32assassin and bodydump for making a rock solid VPX table! I needed a table with an excellent base and found 32a’s 2k version of DW. I really think that this is one of his best tables and i really fell in love with that fake Lethal Weapon theme. It’s a great single level shooter with some nice sounds and rules. It feels more like a mid 80’s table which i really like!
My first plan was to do what i always do and make this table 4k ready with some renderings, primitives, new gameplay and lights. At the end i found my self sitting in front of a full 8k Blender file where evrything was upscaled, rebuild or cleaned up. Not a screw that i didn’t touch. 32assassin was once again very generous when i asked him if i could upload the finished product as a rebuild from scratch or a v2.0 of his table. I got his permission to upload it under my name. I would not have uploaded this one as a mod for a couple of reasons. But don’t worry, i won’t go through all of that again! I have to say that it’s ALMOST a rebuild from scratch because right now it’s still the old 32a script that is running and the Gottlieb logo on the bumper caps is still bodydumps!
I made the 8k PF with my, what i call, upscale and repair method. To make this work you need a 100% clean PF with no JPEG artifacts and / or no sharpening filters applied. So thanks to bodydump for his professional ultra clean PF, that made the upscale possible! Brand new insert meshes were made and i rendered them once again with the Blender material that i got from flupper. I still love it! Thanks man!
The plastics were redrawn from scratch with new, more accurate patterns. I kept the shape / layout from the original authors because it already matched the PF. Getting good top down images of the table is a pain so hats off to whoever is responsable for the layout. Getting everything together at the end would be wrecking my nerves big time.
I bought the metal rail decals and scanned them in
All resources will be uploaded with the table for future use (8k ready with a little clean up here and there)
Overall time for upscaling was around 100 hrs.
All meshes were rebuild, cleaned and i also made a lot of new ones.
I’m still looking for a 4k or better 8k PF wood image with a nice looking shooter lane and i still need a texture image for the black wood on the table. But i will only do the extra work if it’s significantly better then what i have.
Before somebody is asking, the table is at about the 60-70% mark so there is still about 100 hrs of work ahead. I won’t expect it to be done before summer.
OK, here are a few Blender images, definetly not as good as fluppers or g5k’s stuff, but i’m pretty happy with the limited time i have. Feel free to give some constructive criticism! Keep in mind, that i’m using this file to create textures for VP. There are no light bulbs and i still haven’t done the cut outs in the PF. I haven’t done the light state of with only the BG as a light source yet. The material of the little flasher globes is horrible! Mostly because it’s creating a lot of noise! There is still some cleaning to do on the apron image.

Very happy to hear that 32a was so gracious, not that I’m surprised. If only there where more people like him in this community.

Very nice renders thats for sure! and will be yet another top table by the looks of the wip ALREADY! :) i know the time it takes to make the tables this way. looking forward to more updates!

Hi-Res shooter lane? Would be great! Still need a good wood image. I hope i can implement the shooter lane into the wood image with my mediocre PS abilities!

Your PF scan is excellent but it seems that i can’t use it! What a shame! That routed dent that keeps the ball centered is way to long. I have a picture here with both tables, devided by the red line. Anyone with an idea how to make this work? Moving and squeezing looks awefull.

Thanks to BorgDog and Bord this baby has some wood now! I was able to cut out the shooterlane dent from bords image and place it into Borgs maple image!
