I just saw Dazz post a question on Facebook and he mentioned he has considered shutting down VPU.  If VPU were to shut down, is there a way to still make updates to the DOF config tool?  Is there an offline method of making updates or is there a way to port the config tool to a different site if VPU shuts down?

You can just modify your DOF ini files manually.

@gtxjoe Ha! Yeah that would suck. I’m sure if vPU every was gone(I hope that never happens) but it if did the tool could be hosted anywhere easy enough assuming someone has it backed up

Hmmm, I’m not typing up entries for all those rom sets again.

How does one backup the tool?

I’m sure, it would be fine.  One way or another, we would have access to the Tool. An offline version wouldn’t be too hard in a worst case scenario I think.

As for adding entries yourself, etc…

Myself and DDH69 created a pretty good excel sheet template to use as a standard for the work we are doing for adding addressable leds (MX) to FP and PFX2. No reason why it couldn’t be used for VP. In the end you can create a new basic MX table configuration to use with DOF Config Tool very quickly.  Just change what colours you want, and copy and paste the effects you want to change.

Then at the bottom of each table, you just either copy and paste the appropriate cells into DOF Config Tool, or you can just paste the entire config into the *30.ini  file.

I also have tabs for Pinball X effects, Shapes and characters, FP script commands, rom names, etc…  It works pretty well.

                    ouch, that topic hurted me…

if vpu would ever go down one day, i will host it myself on newly created paas, just want to be aware on time before it happens… :)

If anything….this topic shows just how much we rely on you Arngrim, and Dazz.  :)

I think we all forget the amount of work the you put into DOF Config Tool, not to mention adding DOF to so many tables.  Table authors get all the glory, but lets not forget that adding DOF to a table is what gives the table a heartbeat, and some flashy looks!

but also you have to know and i almost forget that vpu and configtool are installed on servers used by other websites such as http://hyperspin-fe.com/ , so even if vpu goes down, i don’t think configtool would be in peril
