I was wondering if there would be any interest in an app that allowed you to ‘zero’ the high-scores on your ROM files. This doesn’t mean resetting the high scores to the default that came with the machine – I mean bringing them down to extremely low values, far below the defaults.

I’m enjoying playing the machine with my kids, but I’d like to get some of the high scores down to where they’ve got a shot at getting their name on the board.

I’ve noticed that SEGA machines (the only ones I’ve tested the software on so far) tend to have an internal check and reset the high-score table if the #1 score drops under the default, but I can successfully reset all of the other high scores to extremely low values. For example, high score #1 in Goldeneye would always be 2,400,000, but the others would be 4,3,2 and 1.

So all but the #1 spot would then be taken by people playing your machine.

Some other functionality may also be possible – always making sure that your tables either have or do not have credits (I actually like using the coin button, so I’d prefer if my machines zeroed-out the credit counter when you quit them), automatically setting tables to one-coin-per-credit etc.

Would people like an app to do this sort of work?

We are all different. I would not use such a program. If the re-creation is played often enough on my end, then I’ll reset the high score to the tables default on table updates. Only the slightest change I’ll make or coming from an update makes the old one “invalid” for me. I also prefer to have the machine set to give me credits for the score shown in the apron. I’m having fun trying to get that GC. The only thing I might consider doing, which I haven’t bothered much to fix yet is that my 5 key, which is programmed to coin is always giving me one credit. And, if table has a buy-in feature, turn it off completely.

So, you see – not very valuable for me. But, hey, I’m sure that there are others out there who would want something like this for their children, or if they are poor players ;-)
