First off I already bought the VirtuaPin v3 plunger before I found there were a couple other options. Back in either 2013 or 2014 I bought a Mot-Ion plunger but it never worked well so I unplugged it. Then I installed one of those KL25Z boards for nudging when MJR first came out with that idea. Its been working fine but every visitor tries to use the plunger and embarrassingly I have to say no that doesn’t work you gotta push this button so I’ve been wanting to get a working plunger. I exchanged emails with Paul about the plunger and he assured me there were over 1000 happy customers and only a couple people having trouble with specific circumstances so I bought it. Well I installed it thinking nudge would work fine since it’s the same KL25Z board. I’ve done the setup per the instructions and the plunger is working fine but nudging is a disaster. It first appears like you can’t nudge it until you finally hit the table harder than I’m comfortable with and then the ball jumps 6″. And the first time my shaker went off I was like WTF…the table image shook violently and then tilted. I never saw my old KL25Z board do that. I wanted to just shutoff the nudging and tilting in the VirtuaPin board and just use it for the plunger and then reinstall my old KL25Z board for nudging but I can’t figure out how to prevent the VirtuaPin board from wanting to process nudge/tilt input. In the calibration screen I also see button 16 light up when I use the plunger and I don’t have any buttons connected to the board. I see no way to tell it to ignore button input.
I’m not happy with the product but I feel like it just needs better firmware. If I could run my old KL25Z code and alter it to work with this plunger that would be great. will the Pinscape code work with the VirtuaPin plunger? Or I guess I could build one of those DIY plungers from the Pinscape site and switch to his code.

Go with pinscape or Zebs for plunger.
Virtuapin has never produced a plunger that actually works properly and has promised fixes for years so either keep waiting for a fix that will never happen or use the board from your kit and flash it with the pinscape software and just make your own plunger. You will be much better off.

No, VirtuaPin is by far worst option. I would barely say the one I had worked.
I’ve tried all three and like pinscape the best. Not sure about Zebs latest solution, but if he’s using linear potentiometer now, its probably comparable to Pinscape with less DYI.

I’ve gone through both v1 and has now v2 of Zebs. Never tried Pinscape, but BorgDog is one of the guys I know that has experience with both. I believe his son has Zebs and he Pinscape and he said something in the direction that he liked both but preferred Pinscape if I remember correctly. This I believe was before v2 of Zebs was available. I simply broke my v1 because of stupidity and a very eager 10 year old girl. Jens swears and promotes a german soluion. Haven’t tried that either so I can’t really tell you anything else than I’m very happy with my v2. Adjust the table and I can consistently do “skillshots” with it.
My impression is that you should stay very far away from the virtual pin solution.

VirtuaPin uses same board but firmware uses different pin out than PinScape. Don’t know if that makes it a big hassle to recycle the board. I have a VirtualPin V2 sitting in a box. And maybe I’ll flash to PinScape. I don’t know.
@NailBuster has a nice cheap mouse-based solution for plunger. I might try that before shelling out for a commercial solution.PinDMD3 is an epic VPF fail. Forums do in-line replacement accusing Pin2DMD of trademark infringement but which projects are providing their support now?
I guess he still builds a nice, fancy wooden box for you if you want.

convert your VirtuaPin into a Pinscape setup
part you will be reusing:- the chinese williams clone plunger
- the KL25Z freescale board
parts to throw away:
- that proximity sensor tube
parts you will need:
- PinScape firmware/software (FREE from MJR)
- 10K Ohm Linear Potentiometer, 100mm Travel <–link (if you look , you can find these for $5)
the most important thing you will need:
- PLAIN OLD COMMON GODDAMN SENSE
That is… you will have fully working Controller for your Plunger, Nudge, and all the buttons that you could ever want… (unless your @Terry)
what this isnt!!! this is no half assed hacked together game controller or any other hacked together shit show…. this is a proven cheapest way to control a poncab…
while I’m here… there is NO such thing as parts for PINCAB’s!!…. all parts are just stuff hobbled together from other stuff…
- so there is NO pincab plungers thet are just made up of parts you can buy yourself for less then an 1/8 of the price
- there are NO pincab dmd’s its a chinese sign panels with open source PCB’s that can be built yourself for under 1/2 the price
- other dmd’s are 4:1 ratio lcd monitors (half the price of “pincab” “parts” sellers!!
- there is NO DOF parts for pincabs… it all just fuckin junk thrown together to make noise… cheap ass shit on EBAY!!
so if your already fuckin building your cab, build the fuckin cab… stop letting or not caring that people are ripping you off!!

I know everyone can’t keep up with everything I’ve posted but I’m not building a cabinet. My cabinet was built in 2013 I’m just replacing a few parts. A lot of these options did not exist back in 2013/2014. I already found the pinscape website as I mentioned in my post above but like I said I had already bought the virtuapin plunger so I thought maybe someone smart had figured out how to put better firmware in the board. I do plenty of DIY building but I weigh the cost of buying something new versus the cost of my time. I could probably write the firmware for the KL25Z myself but again not sure that’s how I want to spend my hours. If no one has any good advice I’ll get this figured out on my own.

Ok somehow I missed like 6 posts above haunts post. I clicked the link to see replies earlier and it jumped straight to me being yelled at. I came back to the post again and I’m like wow there’s no way all these posts happened the last 3 minutes. Anyways yes I’ll admit I did not do my due diligence researching options after I got back into my machine last week. I should have know better especially since I have an original KL25Z board with MJR code and I run Zeb’s boards for all my toys. I just didn’t think to check if they had new stuff.
I complained about how the VirtuaPin plunger was working on vpforums yesterday when someone asked about the best plunger/nudging options. I thought the thread had been deleted because it does not show up on the right where it lists all the recent posts. But I checked and the thread is still there but it seems somehow its been marked so it doesn’t show up on the right but will show up if you hit the Get New Content button.

I’m sure it’s flagged on vpf to not show in recents if it’s a problem with virtuapin. Or I should say I wouldnt be surprised.
If you can do diy pinscape is really best. But I agree sometimes I just want to buy a ready to go deal! Otherwise zebs products always have good support

Not sure about VirtuaPin Plunger but I’m so happy with V2 Zeb plunger. Sold my V1 that worked perfectly in my old cabinet. Now he has a V3 version. Thinking of selling my cabinet again and getting all new stuff again. I love this hobby.
