led strips or led stars for custom project

i have undercab lights and 5 flashers already done on my cab but i did it 2 years ago and forgot alot about it.  What i want to do now is tap into my undercab lights for a topper project.  I have a topper with wooden dice on it painted white, what i want to do is make a resin block the same size (about 4 inches square) and put led lights in the resin and hook it up to the under cab lights.  I have seen before where people do this with the speaker grille lights but i want my dice to flash different colors with the undercab.

I have extra led strip lights that i can put in the resin when i make it and i have extra stars from my 5 flasher build.  I remember where the flashers needed ceramic resistor blocks.  Does anyone know why and what would happen it i hooked up a star to the under cab strip lighting
