Anyone know why I have lost all music and speech sounds(mechanical sound works) on Williams tables only? All sound works on all tables but Williams. Thanks all.

I now have this exact same issue again. Can’t remember what I did last time to fix it. I think I reinstalled everything from scratch including windows 10. I would rather not do that if anyone has any suggestions. Once again it is the Williams system 11 tables that have no rom sounds, mechanical sounds work.  All other tables have rom sounds. This all started when I added VPX Earthshaker and the esha_la3 rom. All system 11 tables had sound before this.

Might help you track it down.

Here is my fix. Under windows audio ease of access. Turned mono audio on.

Thank you Thalamus, Tom, and DJRobX. In the link you sent Thalamus DJRobX mentioned something about the sounds being sent to the center channel and something about mono audio. This got me thinking “I have seen a mono audio setting somewhere before”. I now have my sound back. Tom, I also have sound on Earthshaker now. It’s weird how a setting like this just changes out of the blue. I’m 100mpercent certain I did not change this. Thanks again, I will sleep well now.

Another solution if anyone needs it… this JUST popped up on me when I updated to a new TNG (correlation does not imply causation) I’ve had this problem over the years when I work on cabinets.

Disable unused audio options in windows.

I have an amp plugged in, it is quite loud

VP is set to 2 channel
Rom sound on the rom is enabled (and has been for I dunno a decade?)
The Rom’s internal volume is AT 31.
DCS hasn’t been a problem in pinmame in over a decade.

You have sound effects but no voice/music on SPECIFIC TABLES (in this case Williams WPC: TNG, Indiana Jones, Demolition Man, Judge Dredd)

In my case, the backglass and playfield monitors on HDMI are being picked up as “audio channels” even if you’re not using them.  I don’t know why. It’s something that just worked for me and it saves you having to downmix to mono when some tables have great stereo.

Just leaving this here in case anyone needs it…or I need a reminder later.

Just adding my fix also, Last night I installed SSF for the first time, when I started up a table I was missing sounds, some tables just had mechanical sounds. Going into windows sound properties/enhancement I checked “Channel Phantoming” and it fixed my issues. Seem like even though I had unchecked center channel in my 7.1 setup sound was still sent to it.

I know this thread is a little back but I wanted to thank you all.

Placing windows mono on fixed my audio issues on the no ROM sound issue on some tables while in surround sound.
