Hi I’ve been trying to be clever, which doesn’t come naturally.. I’m trying to do away with too many buttons on the front of my cab, and wonder how I can exit (esc) using a zebs plunger nudge pincab controller thingy and pinX. Ideally I would have just shift + 1 and entered ! as escape, ( works in notepad ) but alas it uses some stupid arse key input so first key pressed gets assigned.. so then I thought I’d mod the ini file in PinX but alas, there is no key code that I can find for ! .. so there goes shift + 1 .. then I thought well there is a key command for = and + ( works in notepad ) so I could maybe use = for start and shift =(+) for escape .. but theres no assignment for = or + in zebs .. so short of getting another ipac and using some key mapping software, how the heck do you folks do it ?? I don’t remember anyone grabbing a keyboard and pressing esc or reaching under the cab in your vids randr :)

      Cheers,

      al.

I’m not familiar with Zebs plunger so I’m a little confuzzled here…. but they way I cut down buttons was the use the Shift button feature on the ipac2, to assign a second function to an exiting button. This function lets you assign the “shift-press” to any keycode (or macro/hotkey script) of your choosing.

I hate that he uses those weird key codes in PBX.  I can’t use my keyboard and arcade controller without re-mapping the keys because they don’t seem to send the same weird code for the same buttons.

You can’t use the settings wizard program for PinballX?

Yeah I’ve worked out though that in PBX if you use the same key for both quits it still works fine. quit within a game and it exits to menu quit within menu and it brings up the exit screen, so I’ve saved one there ..

Thats basically what I’d like to do, and Zebs has a shift function, but how do you have PBX setup to accept the shift codes ? using the wizard, the first keypress is recorded, so a shift option isn’t an option ? or am I doing something wrong ? I still think I can remap the zebs and just have a shift keycode that I add to the ini file .. I’ll try and have another crack over the weekend before I give up :)

Yeah I think it was Carny that provided a link to the codes on the PBX forum for me, but it appears Java uses an incomplete set. ( I assume because some of them are operands ? ) . You can change them in the PBX ini file though and it appears to work. Keycodes : https://www.cambiaresearch.com/articles/15/javascript-char-codes-key-codes

No, not as such in the setting wizard if you want to do a shift 1 for example, as soon as you press shift it records the shift and doesn’t look for any additional input, it’s a one shot if that makes sense. I could get on to Tom as a feature request, I’m sure it’s the most trivial of tweaks to have it wait for a second input, but it’s as easy to change the ini file I think. What I really want is a keycode for -> ! <- and all my troubles would over, so I might just keep trying different codes till I find it :) I’m sure it’s an easy fix assuming there is a keycode that works for “!” .. however there is a java keycode for = and one for + so I may be able to shify map those codes and re map zebs .. or I might just throw another button on there .. ;)

                Thanks again,

                Al.

hmmm??  I use shift within PBX to close my tables. I set the shift function on the iPac2 and have it assigned to a key that has no function within PBX.

So when I press & hold the shift on its own nothing happens. Only when the second button (that has as assignment within PBX) is pressed does PBX take action.

I’m just wondering if people are trying to use the keyboard shift “key”, rather than the iPac’s shift “function”? (that you can assign to any keyboard “key”)

Is that where the confusion / non-function comes from?

Yep you might be on to something .. I think I was trying to use the actual shift ( flipper key + something ) I will try the shift function, which will work I’m sure, but I need to think about what sequence then to escape etc etc.. but that has given me more to think about.

                      Cheers,
