I do not know how many people have seen this – a company called PinSound do a new bit of kit so you can customise the stock sounds from a normal pinball.
Within the site you can download a dll file for VP.
http://www.pinsound.org/visual-pinball-dll/
Also – upon signing up some new sounds can be downloaded.
Here is one on youtube that someone has made for Dr Who.
I dont know about you guys but some old Bally/Williams pins have VERY bad sound in quality. Using this software you can do new sounds – and even add stereo soundtracks.
I am probably not the first to notice this but I think I am going to ‘have a go’ with it to see what the results are like in VP9 and VPX.

June 5, 2016 at 1:59 pm #27962I am running it. you don’t need their dll, it is built in pinmame now, and have been a while.
There are a bunch of sound kits on their forum (around a 100) to download.
Not all are very good.
The only problem i have is that some samples keeps looping even after they should be off.

June 5, 2016 at 3:23 pm #27965I tried it out last weekend, and loved it! The Who’s Tommy Pinball is awesome with it. I can see how having improved sound quality would be great for people with good sound systems in their cabs (mine is just O.K.). Also, I like how people have posted themes for tables for different music tastes. Really cool.

Some support is not perfect yet, as the sound command processing is not fully understood (yet). Also pinsound has many additional configuration options which are not all implemented (yet). But from my testing most packages work out of the box with only very few errors.
Thats why we included the external pinsound studio connection. So if you experience problems, please use sound mode 2 along with the pinsound studio.
Still, some sound packages also feature flaws by design, simply because the authors did not test enough (which can result in looping, or non-looping samples, where it should actually be the other way round).

June 9, 2016 at 3:12 pm #30079Is there any highly recommended tables to try? I got Tommy going last night, all i can say is what a difference.

June 9, 2016 at 6:43 pm #30103The Alt Sound files are brilliant. The only thing I can not find a way round as yet is having to run PinSound software full screen.
Im just not a clever enough programmer to get round this.

June 29, 2016 at 11:41 am #32619Just starting running this in my cap last night, after seeing a post from FullTilt his instructions had me up and running in like 5mins
all you need is the sound packs, no other software…. you also need to be running VPM 2.7
here are the instructions that FullTilt postedhttp://pinsound-community.org/forum/
Just unzip the sounds file and keep the folder structure ..then you create a folder under Pinmame called altsound and in that folder you will create another folder the name of the rom of the table you are using the sounds for. So for TFTC you would create a folder called tftc_303, and finally inside that folder is where you put the contents of the downloaded music files.
When all the files are in place you need to go to your Pinmame folder and click Test ..look for the rom you just made a folder for (tftc_303) then just highlight the rom name and click Game Options .. inside the option screen make sure the Sound Mode is set to 1 and it will use the alternate sounds .. just change to 0 to use the default sounds. Hope this helps.
I did find an expedited way to set the sound mod to 1 by just right clicking the dmd and hitting game setting from there…
oh and just one more thing, these sound packs are BIG some 200mb added to each rom/table some are as small as 20mb but the better ones are BIG just a warningYou need to login in order to like this post: click here
June 29, 2016 at 12:13 pm #32622300 euro for the pinsound hardware is pretty steep… do I understand that you can also only do the software mod to play better sound files :)?

Yes Arngrims version runs pinsound as well. It makes a big difference in some tables like Tommy, some are not as noticeable but still gives you true 2.1 sound. My speakers and especially sub comes to life when i add pinsound to a table

June 29, 2016 at 2:32 pm #32638Where did you get the Tommy sounds? I don’t see those on the pinsound forums.

Edit: nevermind. Their search doesn’t seem to work well.

June 29, 2016 at 3:55 pm #32641Wooh, this really is cool stuff. Just installed 10 news sound files and the difference is really noticeable. The sound is way better than the original rom sound and indeed G&R is excellent! Soundpin is here to stay on my cab!

June 29, 2016 at 4:34 pm #32645So far I’m a bit “meh” on this… I’ve tried TZ and TFTC and in both cases it seemed that the volume was down on some files….. and TZ’s ‘twilight zone sound effect’ is waaaay loud! (It could be intentional I guess)
Has anyone else found that volumes just don’t seem to be right?
That said, I will try a few more today and see how it goes.
EDIT: I just tried Medieval Madness “High Quality”. The sound is definitely cleaner and the castle no longer distorts when it explodes, this is great, but it’s still not a complete gimme for me, as I get periods of complete silence where the background music drops out and doesn’t restart until the next ball collide event. :(

June 29, 2016 at 7:07 pm #32661I have the pinsound software running on boot up – prior to Pinball X starting. To be honest it works fine. I have attempted to make a shortcut and run it minimised/small window and cant get that to work….
I recommend:
TOMMY – It is actually THE WHO instead of the rubbish stage show the pinball was based on…
ADDAMS FAMILY – based on the original film.
MM – high quality version.
GUNS N ROSES – newest version – pretty good!
ATTACK FROM MARS – is average!!!Soon I am going to work on Party Zone, and get some different music running (ie – the proper version of ‘Pinball Wizard’ instead of a midi file….) Will also replace the ‘comedian’ with a proper voice….
The thing is you can also make the sounds ‘true stereo’. I plan to buy one of the boards for my CV eventually when I can think of some new music/sounds for it.
Just so everyone doesnt get mixed up – you do not need any extra hardware to get this working in your cab….

I agree Tommy’s pinsound makes tommy a whole new table
as for software?… I have no extra software installed at all, to run it… its running straight from VPM 2.7 , which at this point everyone should be running
so VPM 2.7 and the sound packs gets ya rock’n roll’nYou need to login in order to like this post: click here
June 30, 2016 at 6:18 pm #32725I’m still a fence sitter with this. I have loaded about 10 tables now and kept just a few. The ones kept being remixed HQ versions of the original sound layout. Just my personal preference I guess…. I kinda prefer the original sound layouts over movie remixes and the like.
That said… One of the features I liked in Future Pinball (while I was running it… I gave up on those bloody flipper physics in the end) was the ability to assign alternate sound layouts to the Special 2 button. AFM for example…. even during gameplay, a single press of Special 2 would switch between Original & Movie sound layouts on the fly.
I wonder if this is something that could be adopted in future vpinmames? Having a single button on the cab that toggles sound 1/0 option would be pretty cool. Granted it probably wouldn’t be “on the fly” like FP and we may still need to restart vpinmame after the selection, but that’s just a quick restart of the table using PBX.

July 1, 2016 at 6:41 pm #32800on the volume issue – I know in some files there is a text file called ‘gain’ if I remember rightly.

July 15, 2016 at 10:36 am #33362I’m now running it for some time now and slowly reverting back to the old rom sounds. When playing them there are too many of them that either get stuck in a sound loop or there are moments of almost complete silence. Will keep on installing and testing the majority of the pinsound files that are out there. Let’s try to make a top list of great/good pinsound files :).
