Where is the pinup mediabase located? Been searching around the program and can’t find it.

February 6, 2021 at 10:19 pm #222745Apparently there is a media library browser somewhere in popper. Can’t find it.
Looks like this.

February 7, 2021 at 5:41 am #222791Interesting project, I’m watching it… So far I see that PinUP is not supported. If there is any possibility to join and test the project – I’m always interested.

February 7, 2021 at 12:48 pm #222838@xantari: Who provided you with that screengrab?
if you are trying to ‘crawl’ or create a database or use popper media server outside of PinUP Media Manger….then STOP. You are not allowed to and its not a public access system. I’ve spent countless hours working with authors and giving some assurances that their media won’t be ‘crawled’ like this. I also do technical things to ensure bandwidth to server is not ‘hammered’.
If you want, you can contact media authors directly and have them share on your own servers.
I know technically your tool sounds great. BUT you need to tread carefully with some of the ideas and how they affect things politically. Just because you can crawl and make database info from vpin sites doesn’t mean you ‘should’ without their consent.
I have no idea if you have, but did you get permission to ‘crawl’ IPDB or vpinball/vpf/vpu sites on a daily basis to make life easier for users? Im not arguing if the idea is good or bad but this data is not yours to do what you ‘feel’ like it. Your response can’t be….well its public anyway so I can do whatever i please with the info.
IMO, if you want to create a new-system like this you should get the ‘blessings’ from the site owners and creators of stuff beforehand.

February 7, 2021 at 3:15 pm #222850The idea of gathering all information in one place is not bad. Of course it is always a good idea to get the approval of the site owners. I don’t think it will do any harm to anyone because such a database directs to their sites anyway (simple information aggregator). Dux Retro spreadsheets works on a similar principle.

February 7, 2021 at 7:33 pm #222901Ok, sounds like media base is private source of data and is not available for public use. It won’t get added to the program. I am only aggregating what is publicly available, not any private sources. All the frontends have hookins to IPDB info, some distribute it as a .csv files (PinballX,PinballY), pinup popper’s in the GameLookup table. The indexing is super light weight, it only takes 3-5 seconds to update a sites index and doesn’t use much data as only the raw text content is downloaded, so it’s usually only taking a few HTTP calls (typically 1-10 depending on how many new items are there). This equates to usually < 100kb of data as it isn't required to download anything except the HTML (no scripts, images, etc). It's the same thing Google, Bing are allowed to do, and is really just an automated Dux Retro spreadsheet but without the nice relationship linking that Dux has done. If any site owner doesn't want to have this information available they can open an issue request on the github site or PM me privately and I'll remove them from the index and it will be up to the end users who want to use the program to create their own indexes.
