Hi everyone, first time poster here, I’m a huge fan of your works, be they tables, software, tutorials… Thanks for the time you put in this hobby so the rest of us can have fun with all this! TerryRed, you’re responsible for a big part of the hole in my entertainment budget with your videosÂ
Since installing (and following the instructions) PinUp System 1.4, my led matrix and flashers don’t light up in pinup menu. I have modified the UseDOF var from false to true, updated DOF R3 to the latest march release, DOFlinx too (even if it isn’t used by pinup). I think all dll and exe files are unblocked, and pinup menu is the only .exe run as administrator.
My backup PinUp menu 1.3 still works if I launch it…
Do you guys have any idea what I’m doing wrong, if I’m missing something?
Thank you!

March 31, 2019 at 9:58 am #121621I tried to redo the registry of the direct output object as explained on nailbuster’s website too.
DOF works in every other program, in PinUp Menu 1.3.7 too. I’m at a loss as to what the problem could beÂ
If you’ve encountered the same issue, thank you for your reply.

dbl check if your certain you have usedof=true in your sysoptions.txt file.
and you must make sure you ran the poppperregister.bat as admin during upgrade..  you can rerun at any time.
and one-last thing to try:Â pinupdof.exe…. set that as admin see if that helps?

April 5, 2019 at 2:30 am #122741Hi,
I’ve got a something similar problem.
In VPX everything works like a charm.
With PopperDoctor, after starting DOF, the buttons and undercab is getting some kind of light blue.
But no DOF in PinupMenu.UseDOF is set to true (in PUPMenuScriptSysOptions.txt AND in PuPMenuScript.pup)
Do you have a hint how to debug?Thx

April 6, 2019 at 5:52 pm #123087Sorry Nailbuster I was away from my Pincab this week.
After trying your instructions, I’M afraid it still doesn’t work.
I double-checked the usedof, everything is ok.
I re-did poppperregister.bat just in case and I set pinupdof.exe as admin.
When I try your utility, pinupdof seems to run, but nothing lights up.
Is there a logfile somewhere I could use to try and troubleshoot the problem?
Thank you for your time, and for PinUp. Even without DOF it’s a great frontend!

May 3, 2019 at 5:14 am #126946I have that issue too. DOF is working in Popper only if PopperMenu is run as NOT admin … as soon as I run it as admin, DOF no longer works. I’ve tried to erase the registry section dor DirectOutput and then register it again (as admin) but same thing happen: only work when not admin. Exact same behavior with PopperDoctor.

May 3, 2019 at 6:28 am #126952Sounds like your having  basic windows permission issues. Is your UAC enabled? It should be. Make sure no dll’s are blocked…

May 8, 2019 at 5:41 pm #127650I got it working a couple of weeks back. I removed pinup and DOF a couple of times and reinstalled. It finally worked. I would’ve loved to pinpoint the exact problem, but those sweet MX animations are too nice to try to recreate and lose everythingÂ

Hi I’ve had exactly same problem checked and tried everything, and the only trick that worked was to disable UAC in registry :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\System
Change the key EnableUA value from 1 to 0
and now DOF in pinupmenu works perfectly even its launched as adminÂ

July 29, 2019 at 3:49 pm #139548Hello,
I tried everything listed but nothing works in my case, even removing the EAC. Does anyone have another idea?Â

July 30, 2019 at 9:50 am #139632Maybe there is something here, I didn’t see that Windows 10 keeps turning on Defender if no other Anti-Virus is present, I managed to turn it off permanently but, I don’t know how , I have another issue, now even in non-administrator mode, DOF doesn’t work with Pinup Menu . I launched PopperDoctor and I have this message when I select DOFdirect “The system cannot find the file specified, ProID “DirectOutput.ComObject” “, I reinstalled DOF several times as well as re-registered the entry with RegisterDirectOutputComObject.exe in admin but I keep have this message. Any idea?
UPDATE: I completely reinstalled Windows and start from scratch because I ended to mess around and it finally works!  I suspect it was indeed Windows Defender that keep on running the first time, I also had to disable UAC though.

August 18, 2019 at 8:11 am #142260I just solve the same problem. It was a security from Windows. “pinupdof.exe” is assimilate as a virus/trojan. You just have to autorise it and then it is working again.Â
My installation work with “no admin privilege” and no change to UAC.

March 17, 2021 at 11:34 pm #229729Hello,
For anyone who is experiencing this issue I have found the root cause (at least in my case) and how to fix it. The underlying problem is that PinUPDof.exe gets launched as elevated (run as administrator) and the DOF Com object is not accessible. Essentially windows does protection with mismatched integrity COM objects.
All that said, you can verify by launching PinUpMenu, then CTRL-ALT-DEL and open task manager. Then switch to the Details tab. You’ll need to add the ‘Elevated’ column. You can do so by right-clicking on a header (i.e. Name) and selecting ‘Select Columns’. Then towards the bottom check the ‘Elevated’ checkbox and click OK. Now find the PinUPDof.exe in the Details tab, and you should see a ‘Yes’ in the ‘Elevated’ column. If you don’t see a PinUPDof.exe process then you probably don’t have the ‘useDOF’ set to true. The reason that PinUPDof.exe is being run as administrator is because PinUpMenu is being run as administrator (even if you didn’t right-click and do ‘Run as Administrator’.
To fix this, go to your PinUPSystem folder, find PinUPMenu.exe and right-click on it and select ‘Properties’. Then switch to the ‘Compatibility’ tab. Towards the bottom is the ‘Settings’ section. Make sure ‘Run this program as an administrator ‘ is not checked and Apply/OK the settings.
I’m not 100% sure how this got checked for me. I had tried the Enable/Disable UAC stuff and registry changes and nothing worked. In PopperDoctor.exe DOF worked fine, but would not work when running PinUPMenu, whether normal or selecting the ‘Run As Administrator’ option. Currently I have UAC on (and never notify).
I hope this helps fix the issue for others since it seems a lot of people have run into it. If you a HAVE to run it as administrator, I believe we would need to update the COM object to have LUA enabled. Since DOF source is available it could be added to that, or you may be able to just add the registry key. I have not tried that since I don’t need to run as Administrator.
Good Luck!
