I tried setting up popper last night and have it pretty much ready to replace pinballx. My only concern is that when hitting escape from a game to go back to the game selection menu, the front end hangs up on my desktop screen and then back to the game selection screen. Any ideas on what can be causing this? Other than that I’m loving the front end.

April 29, 2019 at 3:22 pm #126372don’t understand exactly what you mean by “hangs and then back…” does it long-pause? or hang?

April 29, 2019 at 3:33 pm #126378Sorry NailBuster. Long pause not hangs. Should have been more specific.

April 29, 2019 at 6:25 pm #126404With some of the more complex and graphics hungry tables I sometimes get a slight pause on the wheel bar when exiting back to the menu.
For me it seems to be game specific and doesn’t happen all the time. See if VPX is in “Force exclusive full screen mode” under video preferences. I notice it more when I disable this for setting up and testing tables. You could also try lowering the quality settings in VPX to rule out GPU memory isssues and see if that’s what’s causing it. Make sure there are no other processes running in the background… TightVNC caused problems for me in the past.

April 30, 2019 at 8:53 pm #126666Hey fellows. So I decided to add a video link to my issue. I installed 1.4.1 so I could run the transparent table loading feature and while I followed step by step, I don’t think it’s working correctly as I still have the desktop pause issue. I also installed on my desktop pc which is a clone setup in terms of files, and it doesn’t happen. I just don’t get it…..
Any ideas would be appreciated ?

April 30, 2019 at 9:36 pm #126672that looks like your GPU/TV/PC settings are causing that ‘blink’.
instead of running your game directly. go to game menu and try and run it in ‘record mode’.. select record playfield… if it doesn’t blink then its because your PC setup is causing full screen exclusive VPX to blink like that.

April 30, 2019 at 10:50 pm #126685there’s a difference with a black-blink, and a desktop-blink. one is hardware on one is ‘windows’.
if you see your desktop-blink see here: http://www.nailbuster.com/wikipinup/doku.php?id=emulator_vpx

May 1, 2019 at 12:31 am #126698Thanks for the help nailbuster it turns out I had the 3 numbers outta whack
At 1st I tried the updated line and that did not help, Then I noticed my 3 sets of numbers were not like the sample so I adjusted them until everything works seamlessly

May 1, 2019 at 4:39 am #126710Thank you NailBuster. So a couple of interesting points. If I change the startup script as shown in the link provided above, using record playfield option to launch the game, it’s perfect. No blinking, seemless loading. Launching game regular mode, I see the TV blink you speak of but no desktop image. The only time I see the desktop image, is when I exit a game back to the game selection menu. This also drives me crazy, beacaue my desktop doesn’t do this, but now that I think of it, it’s not running exclusive full screen. Could this be it?
Appreciate your help as I’m getting closer.

May 1, 2019 at 10:34 am #126747I have a little stutter going on on a few games here and there…
I’m running Windows 10 with a I 7, 1070 video card, 4K TV, minimum settings in VP video and default settings on video card

May 1, 2019 at 10:53 am #126754Thank you outhere. Similar setup to mine. I have an i7, GTX980, 4K playfield, minimal settings on VP and default in video card. I should try it with force full screen off tonight and see what happens. I tried it on my desktop with it off and I get the same result as my vpin cab. I just don’t know how the tables will perform with it off… Now that I think about it, pinballx also did the same “flicker” when loading a table.

May 1, 2019 at 4:22 pm #126795Can’t find a solution to this and have no idea to where even begin looking as far as TV or GPU settings so I guess I’ll have to live with it.

May 1, 2019 at 5:31 pm #126802are you using win10? right-click on vpinball.exe and try changing the ‘full screen optimizations’… other than that make sure your vpx is setup to same freq. and native resolution of your tv.

May 1, 2019 at 5:35 pm #126803Thank you NailBuster. Yes I’m using Win10. I’ll try your suggestion. VPX is set up at 3840 x 2160 60HZ which is the same refresh rate of the TV.
Edit: The only option I see when I right click the exe under properties is disable full screen optimization. Is this what you’re referring to?

May 1, 2019 at 7:12 pm #126809NailBuster, I can kiss you my man
!! It looks like it was a TV refresh ratio issue. VP was set to 60hz and my Nvidia settings was set to 30HZ. Strangely enough, when running at 60hz, I still get the flicker, however running at 50hz, there is no more flicker and I don’t notice a performance loss on the more demanding tables.
What a relief. I can now sleep again lol
