I’m finally home after being away for 2 months…and I was able to test Popper’s awesome new voice control for myself! So damn cool! Now having 100’s of pinball games and 1000’s of MAME games in my cab isn’t so crazy…

December 2, 2018 at 12:03 am #105429I remember  6-7 years ago they were doing this with hyperpin/hyperspin and I think the software was called jasper? Or something like that.  There is plenty of you tube videos of people controlling there cabs with it on YouTube. I guess it’s a neat trick to show friends :)

December 2, 2018 at 11:43 am #105485To answer some questions:
No “extra software” installed…it’s all Pinup System software. It’s working with Popper and Google Assistant and some other “free” stuff over your local network. Nothing extra is connected to your cab, as Google Home works on its own. VERY easy to setup. Nailbuster will give more details when the newer version of Pinup System is released.
The real focus is being able to use Google Home or your phone. I have a Google Mini…and it works really well from far away even with full volume on the cabinet.
What makes this VERY powerful is being able to use Popper’s SQL database features. I have 1000’s of MAME games on my cab as an example. I can make up Playlists galore any way I want…but sometimes I just want to get right to the game I want. This will bring up all versions of what I’m looking for from every emulator, playlist, etc instantly. No browsing or keys needed.
Don’t have enough buttons on your cab for extra Popper features like Record? Just TELL your cab to Record! Tell it Exit…go Home…
Very cool stuff.

December 2, 2018 at 12:11 pm #105493Very cool stuff. My whole house is smart Including all lights, thermostat, security system with cameras and doorbell, garage door, front door lock heck even egg monitor in fridge but i use 5 Alexa’s along with a Wink hub that controls everything any chance it would ever work with Alexa?

if an Alex ‘guru’ could make an Alexa skill, then Popper Voice would work fine with Alexa.  Just need to be able to post to webservice/url in a certain format from the Alexa skill is all.

December 14, 2018 at 1:01 pm #106728Is there any ETA on when the google assistant functionality will be added to popper? Have some time off and its now time to move over from PinballX. This functionality is what finally pushed me to make the move.

No “timeline”…but the next new version/update of Pinup System (1.4) will have it included (lots of inbetween updates since 1.3.6 havent been released yet). We need to have time to test new features, and then make new install instructions for the wiki….new media for the T-ARC…possibly new setups for portrait…and new install videos, etc.
It’s coming.

December 19, 2018 at 11:07 pm #107192I gather this doesn’t work well with apple Siri?  I went to amazon and search google mini and it wasn’t very conclusive.  Would you mind posting a more specific link to a recommended solution Terry? (Cheap is good lol)
as an apple user I’m not familiar with any of the android devices so I appreciate the recommendations

Yup..they are normally $79. I grabbed two for the house.
This only works with Google Assistant….so Google Home, Mini and android phone, etc. It works by itself…and can be setup fairly easily for this..but you may need a Google account (Gmail) for it.
Anything else, like Alexa, etc are not supported naively and will require someone else to do some crazy work or support for it.
