Hi all. I’m attempting my first re-theme of a table. I’ve figured the visual parts out. I’m pretty happy with my table and backglass.
But I don’t know where to start on modifying the audio. I know I can use VP’s sound manager to modify the table sounds, but I want to replace the music, sound effects, etc.
I’m not really sure where to start and am hoping someone can point me in the right direction. Do I need to set up an alt sound file? Do I need to edit the rom somehow? Is it all done in the table script? Where do I begin?

August 20, 2020 at 2:01 am #197007Hi
No one seams to be that interested in helping with this. I tried to find this out but got nowhere. The guys who know how to do this are not interested in re skinned tables. (understandably) the best information I got was looking at modded table and try to figure it out iron maiden firepower mod seamed understandable. You turn off the rom sounds and add your own in sound manager Then add play sounds to events it works for basic events and music but not for more scripted events without deeper knowledge. I have found that like you the visual part of this hobby is exciting and learnable with some great tutorials and a very intuitive ui to visual pinball. However the coding is in-penetrable and with no resources to speak of only really open to those who are programmers. the sad fact is that many people wish to create new tables but there only option is to mod a current one because the documentation on the scripting just does not really exist. scottywick has made great efforts to fix this but it is still WIP
Good luck

August 20, 2020 at 6:46 am #197022Hello
I did a tutorial some time ago on basic table modification, it is in French but google translate can help you. the address is here, there are also various links to sites dealing more precisely with the script part. You need to login in order to like this post: click here
August 20, 2020 at 7:15 am #197024Thank you both. I eventually did figure this out basically by doing what mjmj described. I picked apart the Mad Max retheme of Road Kings.
Here’s the result.

August 21, 2020 at 11:09 am #197200I see you’ve already completed your project, but there is a piece of software called pinball browser that is meant to edit roms. I looked into it a while ago while I was planning a re-theme of a DMD table so ultraDMD or PUPDMD we’re not really an option as I wanted to edit dmd animations and callouts. It’s not compatible with every system rom, but there should be a list somewhere.
For the sound portion basically the program finds all the separate clips and you can export and reimport your own sound. The catch is that the clip you import needs to be the exact same time signature as the one you pulled. I guess all the sound in the rom is really 1 giant track and it keeps track of timecode for appropriate sounds to be played.

Thanks. I tried this on half a dozen roms and had no luck. It said “unknown firmware” for all of them. If it worked, it sounds like exactly what I need.
