I’m in the middle of updating all of my tables to use some of the new subs that I’ve written and have run into a problem with Capersville. This table is a little unusual because it is bilingual and had both English and German playfields and backglasses that can be selected in the options menu.
The issue that I’m having is that the table starts and if you start game quickly after the B2S is up, it runs fine. If you let the table sit in a quiescent state and do nothing, then about 2 seconds later VPX crashed with:
FATAL ERROR: Unable to create texture! D3DERR_INVALIDCALL (0x8876086c: Invalid Call) at Render Device .cpp:1232
It’s weird because not much is going on when the crashes occur except and animation should start on the backglass and the score tape should start cycling through the high scores. I’ve tried shutting down both of these to no effect. Anyone have any idea what is causing this?

April 2, 2019 at 12:23 pm #122234That to me sounds like a great question to be asked in the official vp beta thread. Should guarantee you that the devs at least sees it, and maybe even provide them with a link to the problem table. Are you on the latest beta btw ? Upgrade and see if it is still a problem if you aren’t.

April 2, 2019 at 12:36 pm #122241I tried the latest and it still crashed. It looks to me that the problem is being caused by my high score tape when it goes scrolling through the high scores. It uses primitives to display the initials and scores so I switch to ramps and it still crashes. This is the same routine that runs fine on all of my other tables but for some reason it is causing issues on Capersville. Will post to the beta post and link in the table.

April 2, 2019 at 2:32 pm #122274I’ve actually had quite a few crashes with 3664, but then I have quite a few with all of them, I think it’s the nature of how I use it.
Does it run fine if you just comment out the whole high score tape stuff?
curious to try out your new score motor and other routines (and steal them mwah haha ha ha)

April 2, 2019 at 3:30 pm #122276Yes it does run fine with the high score cycling turned off so that’s how it will have to be. It’s just funny that the code has been rock solid for a couple of years on all of my tables and it still works great on all of the others that I’m updating.
Please do steal them, lord knows I’ve stolen enough of your stuff!

April 2, 2019 at 4:12 pm #122278I have that error pop up now and then when a mesh doesn’t get saved or imported correctly. Could be a messed up UV map or something else. It can be awful to try to track down. Lucky you found the culprit, at least.
Can you see the outline of the mesh when you import it into the VPX editor? Not showing up is a tell-tale of a bad mesh.
