Happy New Year Folks,
I’m still in house move hell but have had a couple of off times which I’ve spent finalizing a WIP I started a while ago. It’s pretty much done however there’s some other stuff I want to add before releasing it. This one uses a few experimental features including a primitive (with lens flare) which follows the ball and turns based on ball speed and shadowing under the flippers and in front of the drop targets.
At any rate, when I get some time I’ll wind it up and update this thread when it gets uploaded.

They had that one in a grocery store for a long time where I grew up, so I played it a lot.

Great now I am having flashbacks of plugging quarters into arcades at the local grocery store.
For me large arcades were far away, where the corner store had 4 machines all the time….Getting old

January 17, 2017 at 7:32 pm #45991Looks great. TX Sector kinda vibe. I love the way you get flashers to illuminate sidewalls and playfield, Dozer. Very realistic.

January 17, 2017 at 11:31 pm #46008Thanks for the comments so far – had a bit more time today to add some features. One thing that has always niggled at me is the playfield texture in VP. On these old games you often see some dimpling in the playfield surface where the ball has bounced off a targets etc. Over time these discrete dimples form an “orange peel” effect in the wood and when light hits them at certain angles you can see some texture in the playfield. I tried to mimic this today with 3 full length flashers and a transparent dimple texture. One stays on the whole time and is very subtle and the other two illuminate when flashers go off. This will be a switchable option but I’m quite happy with how it turned out. Remember that the texture only appears for a few 100 milliseconds so the image below looks more exaggerated that it does in game.

Yeah man… we only got to go to an arcade once in a while, but all the stores around us had various games, so we would just get together with our friends and go to whatever place had the game we wanted to play and hang out there. Arcade cabs were an actual draw back then so all the stores had a couple or more out in the lobby or whatever.
Dozer, cool idea for the playfield “aged” look. BorgDog has a couple tables, Golden Arrow and Pinball Pool, that he did beautiful HD scans of the playfields from his tables. You can see the age lines in spots the images are so good. Anyway, it’s cool, and creative, that you are simulating that. Looking forward to seeing how it looks in action.
