May 24, 2018 at 11:19 am #86152We were afraid it was mice, but finally spotted the bats yesterday, way cooler than mice.
They are in a gap at the end of our carport, we noticed what looked like mouse poop on the back window of the better halfs car (I park in the shop out back). The prior owner did a lot of weird building stuff on our house and this gap that runs around the edge of the carport is one of them, along with a flat board underneath the side edges that makes a wonderful bird nest ledge.
Not sure what to do about them because I actually like bats. I don’t know if we put a bat house up they would move there and then I could put some trim over that gap so it doesn’t happen again, but we don’t really have any where to put a bat house either. must do some googling as someone is not too happy about her car being pooped on.

May 24, 2018 at 11:40 am #86154looks kind of like mouse poop, maybe not so much a rounded pellet form a little more pointy on the ends. at least the stuff from these bats anyway.

May 24, 2018 at 10:41 pm #86217May 25, 2018 at 10:07 am #86236How long have they been there?
A few years ago at our previous home I suddenly discovered bat crap all over our AC units. These little guys can really churn out some shit!
Turns out that after several consecutive days of hard rains that a group of bats had taken up sehlter in the louvers the west side of our home. This was up about 30 feet and fortuatley the screening was intact so they just hung out without getting in the attic. We are surrounded by bat caves here in east Tennessee, so I’m not sure if they just got lost or what. Regardless they left on there own within a couple weeks.

May 25, 2018 at 11:31 am #86240We had them there last year as well for a while, but didn’t figure out they were bats, and at some point they went away, maybe a couple months. then we just noticed the droppings again this past week.
Took the motorcycle to Kentucky a few years back and visited Mammoth caves and stayed in the park, was awesome watching the bats there in the evening.
I was reading online about putting up a mesh flap over the opening so they can push their way out, but can’t fly back in, will likely give it a try after sealing up most of the gaps, although they also say that early may is when they have babies and to not try to relocate until august or the babies will die because they can’t get out or fly and moma won’t be able to get back in to feed them

May 29, 2018 at 10:33 am #86678Wow that’s cool!
If you’re ever in Aruba be sure to check out the bat caves if you still can. As part of the day long jeep safari they take you to the caves and have you quietly go into on of the larger ones. Once everyone is assembled the guide blasts a million candle power light onto the ceiling and instantly it all goes black again while seemingly hundreds of thousands of bats vacate the area almost immediately.
To my knowledge nobody was touched. It’s crazy! (my wife wouldn’t go in)

June 30, 2018 at 11:50 pm #90197I had a dead tree dropped up at my cabin a couple weeks ago, was too close to the cabin and leaning the wrong way for me to feel comfortable doing myself so paid a pro to drop it. As I was cutting it up for fire wood I look down for the next cut and there is one of little brown bats crawling it’s way up the log. Evidently rode it down in the fall and didn’t like the chain saw. It crawled about a foot then off the side to a stub of a branch and hung there 5″ off the ground. I cut up the rest of the log leaving about a 4 foot hunk for the bat. I went back and it was still hanging there so I picked up the section to move it out of the way and as I was carrying it the bat finally dropped off and flew away. True story
