Good Morning/evening everyone
So far I have built a mini pincab, SSF with SSFImpactor and one BST-1 for bass. I’m super happy with it, but of course I’m going ahead with a bigger pincab build…
Hence my question: is it really worthwhile to invest into contactors/solenoids setup in addition to a pure SSF implementation (aside from the SW compatibility aspect – which is somewhat solved with SSFImpactor) ?
I understand this is likely a personal feeling, but would be interested into hearing feedbacks from those who have both
Also would be interested into feedbacks in comparison with a real cab
Many thanks !
Regards

January 14, 2020 at 4:36 am #158571I have all the solenoids and contactors sitting in my basement for a year now and never got around to installing them. For me, I like the simplicity and sound SSF provides. I found a nice sounding set of flippers and bumpers off the Tommy Who table which sound very natural to me and that’s what I’ve been using in the tables I enjoy playing the most. With VP continuing to innovate and improve, I think SSF will sound more and more natural as time progresses.
To each their own. I can’t be bothered with more wiring and adding more stuff to my cab for a clack and slingshot, bumper sound. But that’s just me.

January 14, 2020 at 7:06 am #158575I have both.  I have found lately that I am enjoying SSF a lot more but the other day I flipped the switch for the solenoids and it’s awesome too.  Go for both.  Besides solenoids don’t do shit for ball rolling sounds and at night I can turn the solenoids off and adjust the volume down and still play relatively quietly

January 14, 2020 at 11:08 am #158588Of course two different opinions
So the next question is… solenoid or contactors… I’m having a hard time finding solenoids, any pointer (Aliexpress or other – note that I live in France).
@Genesis38, so you’ve been replacing bumpers/flippers sounds from tables with the one you extracted from “Tommy Who” table ?Cheers

January 14, 2020 at 11:11 am #158589Ashram56, yes that’s exactly what I’ve been doing. Mostly to the only tables I really enjoy playing. Others, I just leave them be.
You’re welcome to my contactors, solenoids, power supplies etc. I won’t be using them. Just looking to get back what I paid. Message me if interested. I can give you an inventory of what I have.
