Vey nice release! Only thing is that I can not intensionally hit the mission start. And maybe I always get ball stutter after some time.

October 16, 2015 at 5:19 am #1899I thought Shoopity posted a fix earlier in this thread. If not, I do have an update coming – that will at least fix the mission select. Also introduce the new HDRI lighting and a few other minor changes. Not sure about stutter, specific events causing it that you can see? It’s been smoother for me than some of my other tables

October 16, 2015 at 2:06 pm #1903Yeah, I tried to implement Shoopity’s fix, but might’ve done it incorrectly. Looking forward to the update, table runs great for me other than mission select.

October 16, 2015 at 2:41 pm #1904The stutter occurs suddenly, no idea what it causes. Fuzzel explained a possible reason concerning vsync if there is sone computing going on. I’ll post it as soon as I find it but I do not have an idea if this would help to solve this. But as e.g. the new Tommy table runs butterly fluid here, even in multiball, I think it has also something to do with table design!?
Nevertheless – and this does not have anything to do with your VPX table – the Stern Star Trek pinball can not compete with the predecessor STTNG from the same designer. The old table is more fun for me.

Build update to 101415a, tested with VPX Build 2233 – this has the fix for mode select and several other things, including the new HDRI lighting

October 17, 2015 at 10:09 am #1917Great work fren – didn’t think you can get this even more amazing!
With latest version I get a very strange behaviour:
Avg. Frame render time first is same as in previous version (about 16.7 ms with my config, due to limit to vsync with 60 fps). After playing a few minutes the fps gets halfed (exactly 30 fps), so rendertime is 33.4 ms which is unplayable. This lasts for about 60 seconds, then everything is fine again (in between there are very short jumps back to 16.7 ms about every 5 to 10 seconds).
It seems there is a constant time interval between the occurencies of the slowdown.I updated to latest vp-version 2233 for this, I am sure with previous table and vpx version this problem did not occur. So no idea, if this is table related or a vp-problem.
I don’t think it is a temperature problem of the gpu – when it will decrease the gpu-frequency it should not be exact the half then. Also the card is not consuming so much power at all and works fine in other games.

October 17, 2015 at 3:02 pm #1918Thanks for the update Fren. However, mission select is still auto-selecting the next mission after you complete the previous. For example, if I complete Destroy the Drill, Klingon Battle will immediately start.
When the game starts, I can select the first mission. Other than that, the game picks for me 90% of the time.
Thanks again for the great work!
Edit: After playing around, it looks like all the issues I have with this table boil down to the Start button. Auto Mission select, Multiple key-presses during high score entering, as well as launching all photon torpedoes at the same time. Is there anything in the script that can be edited to correct?
I also tried Shoopity’s fix on the last version of the table, but couldn’t get it to work. You need to login in order to like this post: click here
October 17, 2015 at 5:23 pm #1919Noticed the problem with suddenly getting 30 fps, too. Last time happened when shooting at the mission star scoop (which is still hard to aim at).
And I noticed when the frame rate drops, the sounds are played echoed.

October 18, 2015 at 3:38 am #1927Fren, fantastic table, even better after the last update, no slowdowns here at all and the balls are just the right size
Has anyone made a DOF config for this table yet?

October 18, 2015 at 11:36 pm #1932Personally, I would lean towards VPM emulation for many of the start button related issues. The main reason(s) I say that is because nothing in Fren’s code stands out as an issue to me (other than maybe he decided to push the fire button when you plunge the ball?), though I haven’t done any in-depth trouble shooting (not that I’m very good at it anyway).
Plus, there’s the fact that SAM emulation isn’t nearly as mature as WPC emulation, nor is it as active (that I know of, but I could be wrong). A quick testament to that possibility is that the solenoids that control the gates in the back loop aren’t emulated at all (52, 53… somewhere in there); or that the GI isn’t emulated (or if it is, no one has told the table authors). Or it could be related to the SAM.vbs?
I don’t complain though because the whole rigmarole behind the unwritten agreement with the original VPM devs and Mr. Stern about SAM emulation, then people not respecting that agreement and making the emulation anyway, then people like me who play this questionable material anyway (but I do it because I personally am not choosing to play a VP SAM table OVER paying to play, so I know as far as I’m concerned, Stern, a distributor, a local establishment has not lost a single penny because I play SAM emulated tables in VP). I’m just glad I get to play it at all, even if it’s not perfect.

October 19, 2015 at 11:30 pm #1945I have seen the comments about stutter or slowdown, I’m trying to pinpoint it. I haven’t had much time the past month or so to do much of anything unfortunately! I hope the table is playable enough for most people, and those of you who do have framerate issues, I will fix it if I can! I don’t see the issue on my PCs so it’s real hard to replicate.
The only thing I have noticed with my last build (and I’m embarrassed that I released it this way…) is the mission will select before you release the plunger. That’s now how it should be, and it will be fixed on the next update.
Thanks for the compliments everyone, it means a lot. This is my favorite real table to play and it’s one I may never be happy with digitally, when you spend so much time with the real machine, it really should be easier to do it justice but it’s not…
I haven’t seen many emulation issues with SAM, and after working on Sopranos for the past few months, it feels miles ahead (Sopranos is so awful on the ears…) but not having the aux boards emulated is a hindrance. I don’t think it causes much issue on this table beyond the sol gates… and yea no idea about the GI emulation. I just fake it..

October 24, 2015 at 9:23 am #1995Apparently my setup is not powerfull enough to run this table fully :( It runs smooth ~170fps normally, but in multiball modes (with three or four balls) it’s totally unplayable :(
Is there anything I could try to do to make it playable? Or do I have to change the processor (AMD Athlon X2 215) to something more powerfull? I just changed new graphics card (GTX 750Ti) onto it and I think that it should not be the problem.

October 24, 2015 at 6:31 pm #2002I’m running Windows 10 64-bit. I haven’t had performance issues with other tables so far.
Even when the game stutters on multiball – fps never drop below 48fps. So basically it _should_ be playable but in reality it skips so many frames that it really isn’t.
Thanks for answering Randy
