I see others have very snappy PUP systems working when flipping through tables in Popper. My system still sticks when I press the flipper buttons at anything faster than super slow. I read somewhere this could be an issue if using Gifs in the menu system and I have verified I don’t have any Gifs (at least that I can see).
For my DMD, I have a short custom video playing that I have always used in Pinballx while flipping through tables and I would like to continue using in Popper. It was created as .avi file and I have converted the file to a .mp4 to see if PUP works better with the .mp4 format.
Unfortunately, my PUP setup is still sticking when flipping tables so I deleted what I thought was all version of my DMD video within PUP folder. However my DMD video still plays when I launch PUP.
Where exactly within PUP folder structure is my DMD video saved that it still plays (even though I deleted each occurrence of the video file from the Pop Media folders for PUP?

May 21, 2018 at 12:27 pm #85755to narrow down where the ‘slowness’ could be.. disable usedof and usedmd for testing and see if it is quick afterwards.
also, what type of dmd are you using lcd or pin2dmd?

May 22, 2018 at 12:02 am #85863I just ran several plays with UseDOF and UseDMD set to False in the PinMenuScript. At first, it seemed like the PUP system was zippier when flipping through tables. However it then would slow down, stick and even go completely unresponsive. I need to Ctrl+Alt+Delete to exit out of PUP.
I have also tried with DOF or DMD on, only one at a time. I have the same result.
My DMD screen is an LCD computer monitor and I’m using Freezy’s dmdext dll.
What else might be causing the PUP system to run like this on my machine?

May 22, 2018 at 12:28 pm #85905if you’re using LCD then useDMD must be false… that is only for hardware dmd.
if dof off and you still have problems where you need to end-task then there something up with your system:
make sure you’re using v2.2.8 of vlc (not 3.0)
maybe you have some corrupt/unsupported media files for vlc to play?
you can run pinupmenu.exe -log and look at the log after the crash to see which table it was trying to show.

May 22, 2018 at 4:04 pm #85936I verified I’m using vlc v2.2.8 useDMD is set to false. I have table images (not videos, as those were not playing nice) in .png format.
Honestly, there are files all over in different folders (POP media/system, POP media/vpx, POP media/default). I followed Terry’s video instructions so I feel stuck but don’t know what else to check. I had been using Pinballx for a couple of years with the same media and formats, so this has me scratching my head. When Popper was running smoothly for a while on my system, it was so much faster than PBX, but I seem to be staring at POP media folders and the Global config settings a lot. .
I looked for pinupmenu.exe -log, but I don’t see any log within PinUP folder or anywhere on my system from a global search.
Thanks for this program and your continued support. Any other suggestions are very much appreciated, as I would really like to figure this out.

May 22, 2018 at 10:46 pm #86005i’m stumped… if you have v2.2.8 vlc (32bit) and things were working and then stopped… try and remember what happened/changed between working/not working?
also, how are pup tables working on your system? tron/avatar and the bunch work ok? be a good test to make sure that pinup player is working properly first.

January 9, 2019 at 11:15 pm #109012Scooby,
Did you ever solve this? I have almost the exact same issue although I never have to ctrl-alt-del out. Like you it’s zippy in PBX.
I did rename the default dmd png file and that seemed to improve it. Tomorrow I’ll moved the gif dmd files out of my vp media folder and see if that solves it. Everything else is working 100%.

January 10, 2019 at 4:35 pm #109055I have been running Popper for several months now and had forgotten about this post. I ended up deleting my PBX to Popper setup and started over with PUP from scratch. For the most part, it’s working great now. If you moved your PBX files/media to Popper, I would suggest doing a fresh install of Popper and create all new media.
