In my cab I have:
VP 10,
VP 9,
VP 9 Physmod,
Pinball FX2.

Keep in mind, I come from a REAL pinball background. Most the games I play I have either owner, worked on or played a few games on.

Whilst VPX games generally look amazing, I still prefer a lot of the VP 9 physmod tables. For example- Metallica, AC/DC, ToM, WCS, Whitewater, BBB, AFM and Stern Star Trek are my most played games and they come from this format, On my cabinet I have 3 versions of some games and I usually keep the one I prefer the game play on.

Does anyone else share my opinion ?

No… I prefer VPX. If there is a table available in VPX I delete the VP9 or PM5 version. Honestly, I don’t even play the VP9 tables I have much anymore.

Drybonz – I used to do that but I played a pals table I built (pre VPX) and thought that certain tables played better (not look better). To me it is no problem to have more than one version of a game on my hard drive.
Thanks for your opinion Sir.

Sure… no problem at all. They don’t take up much space.

the higher the version the more features it will have, so just for that… i’m also a VPX guy…
we can appreciate what was accomplished in VP9 but IMO everything is better in VPX, as it should be, its the newest , shiniest… and getting better every rev.

seems some think the VP9 and VP10 are lateral programs… but VP10 is a complete 100% modern upgrade
all VP9 has over VP10 right now is the size of its library…. and VPX is pumping fullsteam ahead to close that gap….

Same as Bonz up there. I remove the vp9 or PH5 table if a VPX version exists. Though I do still play some of the vp9 tables. .Some of them are still very good or I like the game.

I removed all tables but VPX from my cabs, it’s that much better I’ll wait for a new version of a table, or make it.

There are some tables that I just enjoy playing the way they are, regardless of which VP version they come from. I love the PM5 versions of Metallica and TWD (as I can’t get the VPX versions to run at all…..) I also love the VP9 versions of Stern Playboy, Tripple Strike, Eight Ball etc but I also totally love the VPX Circus Voltaire and Terminator 2…

I took a break from VP and missed the introduction of VP10 and now I’m catching up with the tables.

If a VP 10 version of a table is available, it is the only version on my cap right now. But I still like to play tables with VP 9 or PM5.

Of course I am not denying in any way the level that VPX has gone to. Yes I do like some of the VPX games I have put in my cab.

The mod version of Metallica I think is better than the VPX version, and I also prefer the new Stern Star trek as the VP9 mod version.

However I do not look at some parts of the software – having come from A REAL pinball background, some of the things in VPX do not react like the real tables. Even down to daft things like wire gates, that in VP swing three times before returning to the rest point. I have never seen that on a real pinball.

I am not trying to shyte stir here guys (and girls) – but I am going to keep more than one version of some games on my cab as to me, its the game play that matters – not so much the graphics.. But of course some VP9 games look awful! The graphics in the last few years have come on leaps and bounds.

I see VP9. VP9 mod and VPX like Windows XP, 7 and 10. Each upgrade does have its merits. It would be great to have one .exe that would run all games! I wonder why VPX is not ‘backwardly compatible’

Thanks for all the posts – nice pleasant discussion.

Oh gosh I don’t remove any version of table! I keep every one but with menu I can pick vp9, vp10, physmod or whatever and that’s what I do. I still have company over that wants to try everything out and I still go back to play older version.

i will say unless you run vpf in full screen the stutter is so bad now! I was forced to go try full screen with newest betas but wow what a difference

Depends on the game. Yeah VPX tables usually look better, but they don’t always play better. That depends on the author. Some physmod games were right on the money physics wise. It also played smooth as silk. Some VPX tables do as well, but some have minor stutter here and there, some give me a little page tearing and some simply have bad physics with dead rubbers and too much backspin. IMO VPX still is a work in progress, we’re on the third version in a very short amount of time and I assume once 10.2 has it’s final release the next day 10.3 beta will begin. VPX may be shinier, but I prefer physmod about 90% of the time. Some titles like Star Trek and Metallica are better in VPX, but even they need physics redux already.
