I wanted to get the community’s opinion on the best operating system to use with a vpinball table. It will be a stand alone only running the pinball software. I’m thinking of using Windows 7 instead of Windows 10 because it is less “bloaty” and I can disable auto updates (the system is for my Mom so it will be at her house and a pain to fix if windows breaks something on an update).
What do you guys use, or think?

March 30, 2021 at 2:15 pm #232047This is my take on it. As long as VP supports Win7, I will install that operating system. With VP I include also the other stuff like Freezy’ dmdextetion, DOF etc. From DjRobX, he was a bit unsure if the at91jit that you might have to fiddle with is less of a problem on Win10. Except for that, I don’t envy any of the guys having to reinstall nvidia, tune their machine regulary after updates. Getting spied on for every mouse click and having to wonder if defender once again stopped something out of the blue.

March 30, 2021 at 3:24 pm #232052I’ve been using Windows 10 for over 2 years with virtual pinball. I don’t have any issues. Coming from the IT sector…Windows 7 is fine just as long as it stays off of the internet.

March 30, 2021 at 6:00 pm #232054I use windows 10 with no problems. I have auto updates disabled just in case. If I was to start a new setup I’d probably stick with windows 10 and give the baller installer a try.
Hi my name is Barry and I'm a virtual pinball addict.

March 30, 2021 at 6:25 pm #232055You can disable auto updates now? That was my big hang up moving to Windows 10.

March 30, 2021 at 8:46 pm #232064When the new VP software comes out I wonder if it’s gonna work with win7 or a win10 setup that isn’t updated.

March 31, 2021 at 7:39 am #232113VP in on itself – still imports libraries for winxp. But, well, freezy pr. example doesn’t support that win version. I don’t see Win7 being outdated for any vp related project soon, but, of course, there is no guarantee either. The software is tied together with a lot of rubber bands and duck tape.
