I need to have a look at a picture of that satellite, the screenshot looks for me to be a bit bigger than what I remember. But, I admit, I might be wrong here. I’ve only played the game 5-6 times. Never the less, looks great guys !

January 17, 2020 at 11:27 am #158959A quick VP preview.
I rendered both tangent and world normals bump maps for the turret in the event we want to animate it rotating. I’ve set the pivot point on the tank turret so it can be easily animated turning on the tank.

@dark, can you give me the cliff notes on tangent vs. world maps. I’m not familiar with the difference. You need to login in order to like this post: click here

Well this was only really brought to my attention from Flupper and his TOTAN table, the issue severely effected the spinning Lamp. Basically the short story is there are two types of normals bump map that are most commonly used,  ‘World’ and Tangent’ (there’s also screen and local XYZ but they seem to be rarely used). The most common type is the Tangent ‘blue’ kind which you will see in on most gaming/film models.  However the red/pink/green/blue one (world/object space) is said to be better for objects that will be rotating or spinning a lot.  There’s lots of documentation out there that goes into depth about how this stuff works but that’s the jist of it.

January 17, 2020 at 1:56 pm #159014Not that any of my bakes are perfect, I keep finding methods to improve my process while trying to keep some key points in mind.
This video does a really good job at explaining how to avoid bad side effects in baking and ways to approach a few issues (also its in blender)
