January 20, 2020 at 8:41 pm #159641It appears to me that the magnet assembly (metal parts) behind the dish were not sized with the same values as the dish because the magnet in the middle should fill the center hole of the dish perfectly and not let any light through.

February 9, 2020 at 11:27 am #162435It looks to me like the tank is too skinny and tall compared to reference photos, I’m guessing to make it sit on the ramp, if it needs to be scaled to be less wide to sit on the ramp I’d suggest reducing the height value as well to compensate. I had no perfect top view photos of the tank so I’m only matching scale as best I can based off what reference photos I have so it’s likely not perfect but should be pretty close. I can tell right away looking at the screen grab that it hasn’t been uniformly scaled though. Maybe try and find compromises where you can, if possible extend the width of the ramp lip to accommodate some extra width on the tank. If adjusting the ramp is too difficult at this point I would just reduce the length and height of the tank to make it appear more proportional even if it ends up being a bit smaller on the table than it’s real life counter part.

February 9, 2020 at 12:53 pm #162448Wow. It’s always pretty fascinating to watch the step by step developments of a table.

February 11, 2020 at 5:40 pm #162802Not likely to even see the decal on the side of heli on the table but I appreciate accuracy.

February 11, 2020 at 6:01 pm #162805The font is Handel Gothic. This is close to what was ‘original.’ Not totally ‘Dark’ (pun intended) and no dingy. Do what you will to it to add yellowing/age.

February 11, 2020 at 6:10 pm #162807February 11, 2020 at 10:11 pm #162847Finished the low poly version of the helicopter. It’s not apparent in the rendering because renders require opacity maps to render transparency inside of opaque texture maps but the windows for the cockpit have transparency applied to them which will work in VP, allowing a VP light to shine through. The windows are also easy to edit in the texture map. I just have to finalize all the files. You can see from the pic above that all the major details of the real toy are included in the low poly mesh through the use of normal maps and baked texture map. I left the other ‘windows’ blank since all the pics I have of the heli either are missing the decals or they are in poor shape, imo they look like tinfoil pasted onto the toy and look better without them. If you really want that crappy tinfoil look you can always edit the texture map. :)
I have to sort out the pivot points for the rotor blades so they can be animated to spin if desired, although they don’t move on the table it would be neat to hook them up to a spinner or gate switch.
[edit] quick look at the helibody in VP to demonstrate the windows.

February 12, 2020 at 9:54 am #162890Fully assembled in VP:
Both rotor blades can be animated to spin now. If you select all the pieces you can rotate/move them all at once with the exception of the rear rotor blade which needs to be re-aligned with the helicopter if position is rotated.
