Hey guys, I finally decided to install an SSD in my cabinet as I am sick of slow load times! I am using Acronis 2013 to clone my SSD via a USB 2.0 external connection. It’s taking forever, saying it going to talk 12 hours for a 200GB of data! If I had known, I would of done a restore from a backup of an image.
Can you guys share what is the best software and procedure to clone to a SSD? I have been reading a ton of stuff, but nothing like first hand experience. Is Acronis the best software out there?

Thanks Randr, can you bullet point your process for how you clone to an SSD etc? How long does it normally take you complete a clone?
Clonezilla looks like it runs outside of Windows which is probably a good thing, how user friendly is it?

By chance did you get a Samsung SSD? If so, use Samsung Magician. If not, I still use the old and reliable Ghost for all my imaging….I’ve cloned many a SSD drives with it without issue.
And yes 200 gigs over usb 2 is gonna take a bit. (Avg speed probably around 35megs/second) Make a bootable usb stick w/Ghost or whatever imaging software you want to use, and also hook up both drives via SATA for faster transfer. (Assuming you have multiple SATA ports on your board.)

I could point you to a tutorial somewhere but yeah clonzilla over usb takes about 11 min for standard win7 with office ect. Now for my cabs I do sata to sata ssd and takes about 15-25 min with 250gb ssd drives usb would take longer for sure

Hey Randr and JAA3rd, so I left it running overnight to finish the SSD clone and after 27 or so hours! It finally got to Part 2 of 2 which is writing the MBR to the SSD and then it crashed and locked up. NICE, what a POS this Acronis software is :)
I shut down the PC and tested booting from my original IED drive and it worked fine. I then tried booting from my almost completed SSD and it gave a Windows errors on boot saying something about hardware was modified and I needed to insert the Windows DVD and run a Windows Repair. I don’t have a bootable USB Windows 7 recovery USB so I am going to pickup a USB 2.0 DVD for $40 and try to repair this SSD instead of trying to Clone again. The SSD can be read in Windows and the files all appear to be there.
I am going to try cloning again with different software as this process should be pretty straight forward. If you can link me to a decent tutorial or perhaps create one yourself for this site, that would be awesome!
