Hi all just wanted to introduce myself, I have been impressed with some of the tables coming out for VPX have been following the work of G5K 3rdAxis Flupper1 etc appreciating how realistic some of these tables are getting. I’m a 3D Artist myself and after taking a break for 11 years to do Cinematography i’m back at 3D full time and have had the thought of taking a crack at a Table myself.  I dont have the free time to put to a full from scratch build myself but if anyone was needing some 3D work for any WIP builds i’d be happy to do what I can to dip my toe into finally contributing instead of playing the tables only.

February 16, 2019 at 5:48 am #114335There is a lot of guys out there that has mad skills but keep quiet and just enjoy the games for what they are. Makes me happy every time someone new starts to make their “voice” be heard and especially so if there is someone offering to help out.

February 16, 2019 at 11:00 am #114368Ya I’ve been playing vpinball from back about 10 years ago, I built a Mini Cabinet about 8 years ago now, and its still running in my living room all vp9 physmod tables most I tweaked myself.  But seeing how good its gotten now and being behind a desk working in 3D all day anyways I thought i’ll dip my toe in and just simply ask about helping out I’d like to learn from the masters who have been doing it for a while already have worked out the kinks.
I do most of my work with a combo of 3DS Max, and using Redshift for rendering I use it in production for animations so I went Redshift over Vray simply for speed I’d say I’m better at the more technical mechanical type animations and modeling, not so much of a sculpter or zbrush guy. that will make more sense to the 3D guys then the players.

February 16, 2019 at 11:29 am #114372Nice mini! Scale of backbox is nice on top of  base cab which is important and just looks like a small pinball… great job and for older build still looks good to me!

February 16, 2019 at 11:33 am #114373Thanks @randr it was way to costly 8 years ago to do a 42 inch playfield and a back box etc. so as a proof of concept I did what I could with a mini. still plays great and gets almost daily use. so many great tables to play still in vp9. but I’d love to take the jump build a full size cabinet and have some VPX going with t he newer builds. and I know myself i’ll never be able to keep my hands out of modifying the tables so I might as well come out of the shadows now and see what I could contribute.

February 16, 2019 at 11:46 am #114375Once you start – you can never go back
I see that you converted VP9 to PM5 – good choice. I still can’t understand anyone that makes VP9 instead of PM5 if they have good enough hardware. On the other hand. VPX is a whole different beast. Easier to create in, requires a decent GPU at least and plays very near to the real thing if done right.
That is why it is actually worth to invest. My opinion on the matter.

February 16, 2019 at 12:14 pm #114378About hardware ? Always GPU is the first thing to buy. You might have something that can run VPX without knowing.

February 16, 2019 at 12:17 pm #114380Actually I was meaning to get into the building of the VPX tables, Resources and 3D knowledge of whats best when working in the world of VPX. I have hardware to run it just not in a cabinet. and having a cabinet playing it on a desktop is just a Sin.

February 16, 2019 at 12:43 pm #114384Oh ok. Well, g5k, 3rdaxis, Bord, Flupper are just a few guys that should be able to answer that question for you. All of them very friendly and knowledgeable so don’t be afraid to ask if they don’t respond here soon.

February 16, 2019 at 1:18 pm #114388Welcome Mr. Viking!
I would recommend to take an old VPX build that looks like it needs some polishing. Start adding primitives and fool around with materials, lights and renders. Everything else will develop from there!
Have fun and i really feel sorry for your family!

February 16, 2019 at 1:26 pm #114391Oh my family is right in on it, in the background i’m hearing TROLLS!!! is there any Tables that anyone would recommend looking at that are needed wanted and in a state of missing models I’d love to tackle something that will actually give something needed and wanted and not just waste my time on something someone else already did well.

February 16, 2019 at 2:02 pm #114394I would try an older JPSalas table. Everything is rock solid on those tables. All the resources are in perfect condition. His scripting abilties are near perfection. Most JP tables are free to mod. JP only uses build in VPX stuff including ramps, ball guides aso. And this where you come in. Model new ramps, ball guides, peg posts, plastics and whatever you like and render some nice materisls on it. Ad a shadow layer to the table and everybody will be happy with the result!

February 16, 2019 at 2:30 pm #114395Stat also mentioned Spiderman vault ( and non vault I guess ) edition. Where the Italian author asked if some 3D guy could help him to make those. I don’t know if you have that table as that site is taken down now ?!
In general one can say that any 3D object that exists in a pinball machine will be appreciated. I personally would love to see the mech for Avatar being made. But, all these things are not easy to do if you don’t have a good picture(s) to make it from. Welcome to the VP world.
I hope though. That anything you make is made open and free to use. So that all authors can use it. I’ve seen some cases where contributors have said that this person and that guy is allowed to used his resources and that to me at least isn’t my cup of tea. Whatever I do, I make it a goal of being free for everyone to use and/or improve upon. I do appreciate being mentioned like anyone else would. But, I don’t demand it.

February 16, 2019 at 3:23 pm #114401I’ve enjoyed so much from this community and I’m not that kind of person anyways, if I am able to make anything anyone wants have at it. I’ll take a look at some of those JP tables that is a great tip.  I’m not about to get into tweaking code so if one is rock solid that way and i can improve it that is more my thinking.

February 16, 2019 at 3:43 pm #114416Mark70 requested Bally – Transporter the Rescue. There would be a ton of technical models that you could make. But doing this would mean that you start at the top level of table making! You would definetly need help from other experienced guys. I don’t know how good the redraws of older versions are, but i doubt they are 4k ready. But when you start a project 4k is the goal! You will also need a guy who knows how to script this table. If you want to do this open a WIP thread and ask for help and resources!
This table looks absolutely killer, but you will soon stumble over the bigest VP obstacle – Resources.
