Yet another Australia guy thinks it’s ok to redistribute tables and software. I contacted him and gave him 12 hours or I’ll block that region yet again. No idea why Australia or anyone for that matter thinks it’s ok to do? Please go to this link and use contact to send him a message to stop or his name will be posted on region block page for all Australia visitors as the reason why they cannot access site.

I should start building cabs for sale and include an actual training session on how to maintain it and install software and tables. “No vpinball software included… gotta do that yourself if you want to get into the hobby.”

Seriously thinking about it… is anyone interested in collaborating to create our own business that is designed from the ground up to support and protect this hobby while at the same time helping to spread it to people who otherwise might not get into it, and earning some money for ourselves?

So I asked my husband a question about a potential VP project we might work on, about whether or not it would upset him if he saw it on the cabs of the local outfit doing these sorts of cabs (place called Centerpiece Arcades), just because it seems to have become a prominent issue again. He said he’d be fine, but he certainly understood why I was asking the question, since it may or may not affect how we release it if it comes to pass.

Damn I thought this was same topic as few days ago, but its someone else doing same damn thing??
What part of “DO NOT RE-DISTRIBUTE” or “COMMERCIAL DISTRIBUTION PROHIBITED” do they not understand?
I am surprised they just don’t download all tables, roms, and backglasses from every pinball site, and just create their own pinball site, with everyone elses work available for download, and have them saying it is all their hard work that made the virtual pinball tables? They might as well!!
What they are doing is basically just that!!
Basically it is the same thing, except they are making money off of it also.
It is ridiculous!
What would they say or think if someone included their Cabinets with Virtual Pinball tables?
Bet they wouldn’t like it!!
Do what you have to do Randr, to keep these people from exploiting other peoples hard work, for their own gain.
It is nice to see that at least some people care for this hobby enough to help try and stop these types of travesties!!

It isn’t that they don’t see it, it’s that there’s enough demand they don’t care. It’s “easy” money for them (after all, they only have to pay for their own labor and materials), and we not only have to care, we have to have the ability (remember, no lawyer is going to take this one regarding the tables because of the significant IP entanglements, it would have to be people working on Visual Pinball itself, or on the front ends) and the means (money and time) to go after these people. Plus, they will probably argue that, since it’s all given away for free anyway, that they have the right to sell the labor of having installed it (that’s not how it’s supposed to work).

IMO, you’re never going to stop it. If they are determined, they will get the files one way or another, so no point ‘hurting’ the other 99% of community.
Perhaps we can get a standard lawyer ‘template’ that we can send to them that outlines/warns/confirms the IP and licenses they are breaking selling these commercially.
A lot of this stuff can be considered ‘fan-art’ and are somewhat protected(depends on countries too), but once $$$$ is being made it changes the landscape a lot.

I agree you will never stop it from happening, now throwing out an idea, is there a way to get the new users (people buying these units) to become active members of any of the virtual forums/facebook groups?
I was talking to a guy that bought one of the overseas machines, and he had no idea these forums exist, and just thought the tables were done by some corporation and not a volunteer community. Now I know it’s a long shot but even if more active people can be encouraged and Introduced then we are going to be better for it.
Only reason I say all this is these sellers are popping up more and more.

If VPinCabs become more common we’re in trouble! Think about Stern or the Gottlieb license holder smelling the money and deciding to make their own Stern or Gottlieb VPinCabs. Stern has everything they need to make a nice HQ PinCab! We are save as long as we fly below the radar but this shit doesen’t help!
This is the main reason why we should stop those sorry Fv(k3řß!
