In a recent post I mentioned the drama of my PinCab with VPX tables loading after a minute+ of “not responding” messages.

My solution at the time was a full clean install of VPX and the deletion of the original install.

Well the problem came back and I’ve finally figured that it’s a virus update associated with Windows Defender  (Win10 anti-virus) that is causing the issue. So rather than the mammoth task of reinstalling VPX, the solution to this problem is to simply add the VPX exe files (and/or the VPX Folder) to the Exclusion List for Windows Defender.

I hope this post will save a bucket load of drama for other Win10 users.

Posted as a separate topic for “easy find”, as I think this issue will start popping up for many Win10 users.

I was about to chime in saying I haven’t seen any problems but then noticed you said Windows Defender and not BitDefender.

        Carry on.  :good:

yeah, when it comes to problems, it’s that “windows” bit that makes ALL the difference ;)

UPDATE:  This morning’s virus definition update killed my PinballX Attract Mode.  VP and PBX would work and play fine, but Attract Mode would hang on a solid random colour playfield and black backglass.

I had already added the PinbalX Folder to the exclusions list, but it would seem that wasn’t enough.  So I have just added all the PinaballX exe files to the list and it’s now working. Fingers crossed it will keep working. ;)

Windoze has updated and now Defender is causing new problems.  I’ve been getting “render device” errors, where it seems that Defender is shutting down parts of nvidea. This has resulted in table crashes (even when the table is sitting idle) and also crashes during PBX attract mode. Turn off Defender and all runs smoothly.

So I’ve now pulled the pin on Defender and turned it off all together. It’s worse than Nortons and now stuffing up more things than it fixes.  My WiFi was created by a small dongle, so I have no removed it and will simply leave my cab off-line. It will be USB transfers from now on.
