I think I’ve seen people doing this and followed some instructions in the wiki with no success. But I’m not sure that these are for someone running a regular LCD monitor as their DMD like me. Can anyone confirm it’s possible and if these instructions are for that? Thanks

March 17, 2018 at 3:12 pm #79700That’s what you are looking for, you don’t have to patch every rom. The ones that need patching are the newer Sterns A whole bunch work with just the palette colors, you can find them at VPuniverse
Are you getting color in any DMD like Attack from Mars for example?

March 17, 2018 at 3:27 pm #79702Sorry yes it’s the newer Stern tables I’m trying to do like AC/DC.
I did do the color DMD thing some time ago with AFM, etc. using .dmc files via SetDMD.
Is there a better way for those now? Thanks

March 17, 2018 at 4:11 pm #79706Basically – yes. Installing like Terry says http://vpinball.com/wiki/visual-pinball-knowledge-base/first-time-installation-of-visual-pinball/
You will then be running dmddevice via pinup and you can use altcolors from vpu.

if you have an LCD monitor you can get good looking colors but their will be allot of limitations
Stern Patched roms only work on Freezys dll, because they use PIN2DMD files aka “PAL” files.
Freesys dll supports the basic 4 colors similar to what you can get from PINMAME, the 4 color pal files are similar to your dmc files.  Pal files are the file type used by the Pin2DMD hardware.
you can download a Pal mega pack here
You can either get the Pallet Collection or the More ALtColor Pallets
http://vpuniverse.com/forums/files/category/86-pin2dmd-color-palettes/
if you want color in your stern roms you will have to use Freezys dll,  Unfortunately Freezys dll does have some limitations for non stern tables
- None of the Gottlieb DMD tables work on Feezys dll, you will have to use your dmc color profiles for those tables.
- Piin2DMD colored projects do not work on Freezys dll
this is a Pin2DMD colored project for SPP and T2, it will not look this good in your LCD screen
you can only get this type of colors on a PIN2DMD hardware.
see a table you like help me find the resources so that I can finish it

March 18, 2018 at 12:52 pm #79754Why give up ? http://vpinball.com/wiki/visual-pinball-knowledge-base/pindmd3-replacing-pindmd-dll-for-dmddevice-dll/
That explains a bit of what is needed if you want pinballx, xdmd to work as well. If you want PinUp you need to use the pinUp version ( 1.6.1 ). Seen a few reporting problems with that and the new Ghostbusters release at the Itialian site.
Even if the topic says Pindmd3 – it is the same procedure for everyone except Pin2dmd users. I believe they are best off following what lucky1 is preaching.
Ok, as a LCD user, you kind of need to do the opposite. Say no to pindmd3 and yes to Virtual.
