I’m finding that there are times when I boot my cabinet that my backglasses won’t show for VPX.
The way I need to fix this is that I change the 5 setting for my backglass screen to either a 1 or a 3…
I check in Windows display settings and it never changes the display number there…
Does anyone know why this may be happening?? Better yet, does anyone know how to fix it so it doesn’t happen anymore?
Here are the contents of my ScreenRes.txt:
3840
2160
2560
1440

December 6, 2020 at 2:03 am #213725I’m on Win10 2004 version and in this version and also in 1909 my displays doesn’t change their positions for months.
They do that formerly sometimes.
But in former times it helps to reboot a few times.

December 6, 2020 at 6:56 am #213739@Outhere I read the post you reference, but I’m not 100% clear on what this meant:
Note (1) Instead of hoping windows picks the right screen continuously, By using this setting it will use location
(Older) Other way 2 <– Display number for the backglass monitor – Try 1 – 15 if needed
(Older) Other way 0 <– offset for the backglass on the selected display (normally left at 0)Are you saying that if I put the value in for the left-right size of my playfield that it will alleviate windows looking for the display and always position it correctly?
tganks again!

December 6, 2020 at 6:58 am #213740@joey2001 thanks, Windows 10 is kept up to date on my end. I’m not sure of the latest rev…. I’m going to try what I think Outhere was suggesting. Thanks again

December 6, 2020 at 7:49 am #213745https://vpinball.com/forums/topic/fixed-monitors-assignment-wrong-in-vpx/
try this . When you setup your monitor assignments initially windows stores that in registry and sometimes when you change it, windows will revert back. This will reset that and then use @outhere advice on how to setup properly with PF being screen 1 then BG 2 and dmd 3 from left to right

December 6, 2020 at 7:59 am #213747@Tom were you doing all of that simply to get the Windows numbering to be 1,2,3,4 for the playfield, backglass, dmd, topper?
Or were you having the issue I am having?
Everything I’ve read has said don’t worry about the Windows numbering of screens as long as they are ordered correctly, which in my case they are. Even when this issue occurs the monitors are ordered correctly.
I just don’t want to reset everything if it isn’t directly needed for my issue. It sounds like you went through allot of configuration to get it all running again.

December 6, 2020 at 8:04 am #213748I guess I’m not clear on what B2S is looking at for the 5th number… If it were what Windows has the screen numbered as, then it should be 3…that doesn’t change when this issue occurs… yet sometime that number will need to be in ScreenRes.txt a 1 and other times a 3…Windows always shows the screen as 3….
As Joey pointed out, sometimes rebooting fixes it. But the quick fix for me is flipping the 1 to 3 or 3 to 1….just a bit annoying.

December 6, 2020 at 8:25 am #213751The 5 th number is the backglass screen number. If you have to keep swapping it then something is screwed up in the settings. If you have your screens 1,2,3, which numbers don’t matter, and you go into vpx video preferences, you should have 1 with the * and correct res and then screen 2 for the b2s with the correct res.
Is that the case and what is your issue exactlyYou need to login in order to like this post: click here
December 6, 2020 at 8:27 am #213752Unfortunately when the windows screen numbers don’t match up with vpx numbers, the issue I had was the registry was trying to put it “back”. Using that post should fix your issue and it’s not gonna screw up a lot

December 6, 2020 at 8:32 am #213753My Windows screen setup is:
1,3,4,2…playfield, backglass, dmd and topper
backgkass is screen 3 per Windows
VPX has the screens selected as well
the problem is that sometimes when I boot (randomly) and I launch a table my backglass won’t show. If I go into ScreenRes.txt and change the backglass number from say 3 to a 1 it will fix it. If I had the number set to 1 and this happens then I change it back to 3 it will fix it.
Hopefully that makes sense..thanks again

December 6, 2020 at 9:34 am #213758At some time during your setup you had backglass as 1 and it’s reverting back. I had the same issue. I would bet money that thins fixes it.

December 6, 2020 at 11:00 am #213767Tom,
when you deleted the reg keys, did you just reboot and let Window re-find the displays? Or when you deleted the keys did it just start re-finding them real time?

December 6, 2020 at 11:35 am #213776Unplug all except pf and do it, then when you start back up pf will be 1 then plug in other monitors in order. Keep it simple
