Ah I just found the gopinball site! There is an extremely thorough setup guide… It has a lot to digest. I think it might have some links to the .exe files that I am looking for. Plowing into that now….

Also another thing I have found is that if you have something in your Desktop folder already, it can be locked by either Nvidia or another process and then things get blocked. Erase that file in there (might have to reboot to free it for delete) and then try again?

Well the DMD doesn’t always show stuff in PuP right now, sometimes it does show the default Pinup Popper logo and sometimes it just doesn’t. I haven’t converted my animations to the right format yet so I need to work on that one and then play around with it. I’m doing hardware changes at the same time so that complicates things. I have a pile of items to install…. Solenoids, Knocker, Fan, Shaker… Plus need to add more buttons to the cab as well. I have a few other non-virtual pinball projects going as well so I progress forward…. slowly…
There is always some new major issue though… I will say this though. Once the DMD is working, it is totally worth it IMHO. When it plays on VP, it looks soooooo much better than all the LCD-based cabinets that I have seen out there. I was at SFGE this weekend and they had several virtual pinball machines from different vendors and none of them compared to this one I am putting together. in the DMD side of things…
Another thing that I really noticed was the difference in a good quality monitor. Mine is a really great IPS 4K (it is a 32″ which is the correct size for my particular cabinet). The ones there didn’t have the resolution, color and contrast that this one here has. Not even close.
They had licensed Zen Pinball FX machines there that had big touch screen displays. That was cool, but the image quality wasn’t super-great. I think that touchscreen layer affects the contrast a good bit. I also like having the layer of glass on mine as well but if I could increase the size a tiny bit and keep the image quality/contrast of my current monitor and still have a touch screen that might be nice… IDK… OK I’m just rambling on hahahaha

OK did a ton of iterations from the command line to see if I could hone in on things…
DMDEXT definitely doesn’t contribute to this one. I can run it fine. It is def. VPXSTARTER that introduces the issues. On a positive note, If I have the VPXStarter at 1 1 10, it seems to work with FX2 so that is my solution and seems to have worked well inside and outside of PuP. I’ll stick with that, but there is def. some strange interaction between vpxstarter and PFX2 and 3.
I’m glad I am through this hurdle so I can now work on the next thing…. Getting the real DMD to work in PuP System… it seems to kinda work, but not 100%. I’m going to deep dive into that.

I’m using a pinDMD v3 so yeah it is the hardware… the virtual position didn’t work with the x y z or whatever the default was so I set it to that. Maybe it is DMDEXT…. it has sure caused some other problems. Thanks for helping to focus me in the right direction! hahahahaha

I know that in FX2 I had to put -table Alien_Isolation (removed the underline and replaced with space) maybe that would help on the standalone FX3?
If you just run the curlaunch.bat from command line, does it work?

I had issues like this with PinballX. The thing that fixed it was moving where my displays were in relation to each other. I had Display 2 on the left of display one. I moved it to the right in the display properties in windows and tadaaa that fixed it. Not sure if it is the same with yours, but might be worth a try?

OK so that has worked with a lot of testing on FX3. Having the same issue with PFX2… If only there weren’t a few tables that didn’t move over to PFX3! (I actually really like Plants Vs. Zombies
Haven’t figured out the setting that works with FX2.
This bit of PuP seems a bit finicky

OK just had a breakthrough… 2 4 60 seems to have worked at least once…
Maybe my machine was too fast??? IDK??

OK I tried all sorts of variations from 30 30 60 Â d0wn to 4 4Â 60
None of them work. is there a brute force way to do this?
I didn’t have this issue in 1.3.0. Not sure if it is an upgrade thing or something not related??

Is the PuP menu running as Admin?
Is the crashing happening 20 seconds after start or just after it sitting there without anyone doing anything?

So if you run through VPX without PuP you do get the BG to display?

I’m still having a few issues with the DMD in PUP as well but it is working perfection on the emulators…. when it is working in the emulators, it is so awesome…. In PinballX I had the DMD working fine for the FE and it was awesome there. I think once you get through the initial hurdles, you won’t regret the purchase… I need to knock out a few other gremlins first and then I can focus on the DMD in PuP… If I find something out interesting I will let you know.. good luck!

Yeah that is good to know. I will go back on the other machine and plug in the Pinscape when I get a chance to see if that fixed the old problem for me too. Thanks for that solution. Hopefully it helps someone else in the future (I’m sure it will)

OK so all of my stuff has been Windows 10. With a 100% fresh install, I have no problems with the Joystick… Just tested it.
All my other problems went away as well… Not sure what gremlins I had lurking around in my older Win10 PC. One major difference is that I don’t have Oculus installed on the new one…. Maybe that is a factor? IDK????

Yeah previously I had tried both types as well. All other applications other than PuP worked fine with the Pinscape.

Well this will be interesting. I have built a new PC around my Ultrapin cabinet and I have verified that the keyboard part of the Pinscape is working, but I didn’t even try to do the buttons in PuP. When I get home tonight, I will try to see if I can get direct joystick working on this 100% fresh system. My old one had some weird VP-related gremlins which were also causing problems with my dmdext as well… Let’s see if we can figure this out in some fashion!

1 user thanked author for this post.
OK well things are working pretty well I think. Maybe there was something blocking or AV thing going on, but after I copied over that last stuff, it fixed itself. Good to know on pinupdisplay.exe, if it starts up again, I’ll look there first. Thanks!
Pretty sure nothing else is running as admin, was careful about that after going through the videos about 6 times hahahaha

OK as a last ditch effort, I rebooted the machine.
I then took all the files from the 1-2-3-4-all update and overwrote what was in there (except for the ffdshow.exe which seemed to have problems)
rebooted, and things seem to be working this time… I’m not sure what happened… I’m going to run it through a battery of tests to see if things are back to normal-ish.
