Hello together,
First of all please excuse my bad English: I am Klaus from Germany, completely new here, fascinated by all the good pinball tables here and have a question to you:
I am registered here now, have downloaded the VPinball itself and intended to play a downloaded table. I received the question wether I am legally entitled to play this table and above I read from Roms and Emulators. Well, I confess that I am absolutely not familar with these terms, just want to play for my own, certainly do not intend to make money with the data, will not share it and so on.
But as I really cannot check this out for me I would like to ask you wether I made something wrong or if this is only a formal question? I absolutely do not know and am very unsure.

Once again – very good looking tables, wish I had enough knowledge to create an own one :-D

You should just run setup.exe and tick cabinet mode, and press – save defaults, and forget about the question ;)

However, somethings still seems to be wrong, I always got the information that “pinball machine (XY) was terminated before initialized, please check the rom file or rom path.
Can you give me a little assist?

It is an error message “Line 55” in the script, telling me “Controller run”, whatever this means.

In VP preferences go to video – Turn off Force exclusive full screen mode

Force exclusive mode will required a ddraw set to 0 in registry. Since this is the very start of your adventure. Do what Outhere says. Turn it off, later on you’ll learn why you might want to put it to zero and how.

Dear both of you,
seems that I come closer and thanks again, I am always looking out for good advices. However, in the VP itself I can only turn to “Window” instead of “Full Screen” and so I did, which leads to picture two. After then moving again to the video settings the only option I can “force” is the one in the middle of picture three. In case I switch off this one I come to a dark table only. But it is not exactly the option outhere tells me to switch off. What can I do?

Hey Klaus, and any other newcomers that might read this. I discovered this fascinating community a little over a year ago. And ever since, it has been an almost daily fascination/frustration. … an unending journey of learning. I’m not one that can assist yet with people looking for help. But I can say, that every question/problem I’ve encountered while building my VP Cab, had already been addressed in videos and forums. The answers are all out there. And many of them are from outhere.  If you’re in a hurry, you need mad skills. The voices on this forum are the best if you don’t.

Well. If the exclusive full screen is off – which it looks to be. Then it is most probably a problem with the rom, just like the error message says. Do you have the rom in zip format in roms folder inside vpinmame ? And if it is there … have you checked it ? Run setup.exe in the vpinmame folder and then scroll down to the rom and press that test button. If that isn’t working, VP can’t work. And. Get your roms from VPU is my suggestion.

Did you install with the “All in One Installer” ?

I think, you only use VPinball.exe and haven’t install VPM (VPinMAME): it is needed to start and Play with the ROM Files.

I confess I am completely overwhelmed with all this…
and have to ask for help again, absolutely sure that JR is right… 
I confess that I fear that finally it is my very little technical know how and lack of understanding which leads to this fail. I am absolutely sure that I did not installed correct respectively not in the correct folders and started from the wrong base (as Stat already assumed) and then finally got lost in this chaos… The typical user…
In the meantime I de-installed all the files from my PC hoping to clear the ground and have the chance to make a complete new start.Is there a foolproof and detailed manual (which I didn´t found but this does not mean anything) for me to come to that point I can play all these fantastic tables? For information: I am using my stationary PC with only one screen in horizontal direction. Are otherwise you, Stat / randr / Thalamus / outhere or someone else able to invest the time and patience to give me a check-list, which component to install in the correct order and which file to install in which folder (including the table downloads) and from where to start then?
I would be very grateful and happy for this
At the moment I have very less time as a father of two young “dragon-princesses” 
, vacation is far away but I am very eager to spent a small part of my little freetime with my old passion P-I-N-B-A-L-L

Once you’ve done a couple of tables, you’ll get the bang of it. Everything is hard in the beginning.

It is DEFINITELY difficult at the beginning, but it is also VERY REWARDING when you get over your first hurdles. I’d encourage you to stick with it.  The community here will help you get started (we were all beginners at one time).  Focus on a few tables, roms and media to start, and once you “get” a few concepts, you will be flying and the limits to how many tables and how big you want your collection will be for you to decide.

I agree I just started this hobbie a few months ago with many frustrations. Once you figure out things you start to get use to things and learn a lot. You also feel good when you can figure things out on your own. It seems overwhelming sometimes but the community here is awesome and always willing to help. I also used youtube and google searches and their is a lot of information and tutorials out there.
