I have the opportunity to buy a Hardbody for just over $500.  It’s not working and I need to get better pics to see condition and it’s a bit of a drive to get it. Unfortunately around here pinball games are hard to find.  I think Hardbody in pretty good shape working is probably about $1500 maybe.

January 2, 2020 at 10:38 pm #156727Pinball machines have for a long time only gone up in price, all depending of course of working condition. There isn’t many around that can actually fix those old, great machines anymore. So, it all depend on supply and demand I guess. We should acknowledge that most of use have passed our mid lifetime. Some, I’m sure, still remember when pinbal, just where EM’s, but, I believe that most of us are SS childs. We’ve all put our pocket money into Firepower, or Frontier time and time again. I’m the kind of guy that love pinball so much that I’ve actually spent som time on the subject and I see that young people actually are enjoying the interacting that only pinball gives you. Will it survive ? I of course very much hope so, but, it is a niche kind of thing. Had some colleges over for beer and pin. Will not fault them from wanting to drink more than playing. So, this was a looooong answer. Getting your money back ? Hmm. Maybe is the answer, but, don’t hold me to it. But. as a true pinball lover. Investing in these machines is something I would do, IF I had the place to put them in, if only because I could play them as often as I wanted.
Ah. Yes. Should mention – this reply was not done being sober, but, maybe honest ;)

January 2, 2020 at 11:42 pm #156737Yeah condition will play a huge factor, and as far as gameplay, I know where I can find a very realistic virtual version, around here people are asking $500 for old EMs that aren’t in great shape.  The big mystery is how much to fix, first question was what happens when you plug it in.  They said nothing.  I love buying pinballs or arcade games and putting a $2 fuse in it and it fires right up.  I bought a Sega shonobi once for $50 and all it needed was the board plugged back in!

January 2, 2020 at 11:51 pm #156738Yeah. Your not going to get that lucky twice – or well, of course it could happend. Look around. Look at @borgdog or @scoccty – there is a huge amount of work going into building those game up from the ground as I would call it. Those guys though, are not like us “normal” people, they know pinball far beyond what we “toddlers” do. So, buying a restoring “ready” machine is a huge task. But, I want to say this. You’ve surprised me once – so why the hell not again ? Just be aware that re-building a real machine is not for everyone. :)

January 3, 2020 at 10:08 pm #156872..if a Hard Body is $525…it’s roached and will be a very ..fun project bringing it back. Did you get it?

January 4, 2020 at 3:38 pm #156995nope doesn’t look roached. I am getting more details tomorrow and will make a decision. I brought my totem back from the dead and did a lot of work and it looks great now. The back left corner was falling apart and it needed a new bottom in the cab .I think this may be a good find

January 6, 2020 at 10:03 am #157229Got some pics today, this is the bad stuff, one side had scratches the other side is perfect, it does power on the gi lights no board power. Â Both kicker plastics and the left side plastic needs replaced. Â The pf looks nice, did this come with Mylar over the middle of the PF. Â If so is that a bitch to replace . Â Boards look unmolested. Â Maybe a power supply issue? I think it will clean up nicely and probably a good chance for $500???

January 6, 2020 at 10:21 am #157231Price is right if it is a game you can see yourself playing hundreds of games on. Overall looks pretty good with some troubleshooting and elbow grease. Are there plastics available for it?

January 6, 2020 at 11:26 am #157234I just talk to Steve Young at pinball resource and he said plastics are not available and it’s going to be hard to find parts for the 6803 game. The MPU board looks like the battery was removed so I need to ask this guy what all has been done to this game. It could be something as simple as a fuse or power supply.  Unfortunately with my location being horrible for pinball games I don’t really have a lot of selection unless I want to pay out the ass for something. After I released hardbody and you guys got a chance to play it what did you think of the game play. Did it seem like a game that you would buy or do you think the nontraditional layout would be fun to play once or twice and that’s it

January 6, 2020 at 9:36 pm #157294I love the design of this table. Same designer did Fathom! What you and @Mlager8 pulled off was crazy cool, fascinating wip. But if I add another real pin to my meager collection, it won’t have man-boobs in the playfield artwork. But $500? Hm.

January 6, 2020 at 10:27 pm #157296If you want it buy it! I would offer less though.
You will never play same pin over and over for very long thats why most collectors like myself have many real pins its just human nature to get bored with it after a couple weeks. Heck thats why i love VP play a bunch of tables without getting off stool and never get bored :) Nothing beats real pinball so for that price you really cannot go wrong

I owned a Doctor Who for many years. I played it regularly and never got bored. My skills consistently improved and my high scores grew bigger over that time. I’d still own it if my wife hadn’t pestered me to free up the space in our dining room.

January 7, 2020 at 9:17 pm #157400Cool!! Looks like a challenging project. But..$400? Nice. And the symmetry of you finding this after just bringing this to life in VPX?  You got Wildman and Roth to chime in here!
It’s meant to be!
