Well figured I would do something with some scrap wood and extra led dmd panels and discovery boards so I made “desktop dmd’s” everything slides out side of box including glass. Kinda neat just plug in power adaptor and USB and you got color dmd for your desktop :)
this one is still needs finish but looks ok  to show a photo I suppose

Yeah would be perfect for your cab as a add on. It’s the China panels so very small yet full dmd size. If real plasma would be very large box due to pcb. Here is photo from side you can see everything slides in…

Great idea for desktop gamers!
I would add a fan on the back, as well as some vent holes! Run a 12v or two at a lower voltage (maybe 5v) to keep them quiet but you will need circulation. Even if the power supply is in the back or not. The panels can get very warm.

Got this all painted and thinking it could also be a topper on digital pin keeping my plasma dmd and adding a second color dmd to top of backbox just sits on top and would be viewable by people behind to see scoring. So desktop or topper dmd

A pindmd3 or pin2dmd both would work. Problem is currently vpinmame only supports one real dmd simultaneously hope that russdx or lucky can make 2 work at same time.

Just had to say..That is sweet! :D
Been wanting a LCD/LED MArquee size for the current game playing etc.. but too much atm and sizes.
What you’ve made there could pretty much do the same think with some programming (LEDs, right? changing the colors) for a different image.

oh it works perfectly fine for desktop. vpinmame supports only one real dmd currently so in cab I can only use real plasma or this rgbled but not both yet at same time. hope soon so for now I use on desktop computer

There are Pin2DMD breakout boards available with dual outputs. Granted, both displays would have to be RGB LED.
I have a plan for a DMD topper as well. Mameman produced a custom design for my cab that incorporates Cree LED flashers. I have a pair of them, so that I can swap out between different display types. The one not on the cab could certainly be used with a desktop.

So, I’d have both a LED monitor and a RealDMD. With freezy’s dmd-extensions program, I don’t think that I’ll need to worry about VPM support for this setup.
