@njk70, seems your changes is now part of both new releases/beta builds for 10.6 and 10.7

      Looking for testing tonight!

Update. The 10.6.1 is missing the enhanced ssf flag. just looked new when I saw it on GitHub.

This is that what I have been trying to explain a couple of messages above. 10.7 defaults to 3D sound and 10.6 stereo only. Question is if this is needed/wanted when you use a cab.

I tried opening an original table in 10.7 and of course all backglass sounds has the slider on 0.00 instead of far back. So eventually we would need a migration of all tables moving the slider full back, to make it sound the same as 10.6?

I still can’t get the sounds moved to backglass in 10.7 by switching to backglass and moving the slider all the way to back, curious if anyone but wiesshund can?

Actually it does not sound like having 3D sound from the backglass is of any use, either you want it there or you choose to play it on the playfield?

When you switch in sound manager it defaults to “in the middle” instead of far back. i do not know what happens with tables saved in 10.6, but I hope we do not have to modify all manually.

I now tested in my lunchbreak with a original table (Serious SAM) and all sounds marked as BackGlas show up with the slider (rear/front) set to 0.000

In 10.6 you could set something on this slider as well, but it was never used, since all backglas sounds were stereo only.

Yes, if you check the parallel beta thread between Toxie and yourself he mentioned the difference between 10.6 and 10.7 beeing the possibility not only stereo on the backglas but also the full 3D sound. When you switch in sound manager it defaults to “in the middle” instead of far back. i do not know what happens with tables saved in 10.6, but I hope we do not have to modify all manually.

              including the statement here: https://www.vpforums.org/index.php?showtopic=44135&page=69#entry470969

10.6 does not know how to play backglass sound as anything but 2D stereo, it can not even load a multi channel surround encoded sound, let alone play it.

It can not and will not play out of any place but the front speaker channels

10.7 the backglass can play where ever you tell it to play, based on your WINDOWS speaker set up, and what kind of sound you give it

So if you set a sound to play to backglass
and leave the sliders in the default position then VPX is going to try and re-manipulate the audio

The sound is going to come out at a position roughly in the center of the sound stage.

So it is going to be some in the backglass, a lot in rear of the table, and some out the front of the table, where the flippers are

Got the DMD display fixed. Tried moving some sounds to backglass and it did indeed play on the exciters. I’m not sure where in the code it differentiates between backglass and table when playing the samples. I’ll see what I can figure out. I need to rebuild my build environment so that will delay things a bit.

But this was described by toxie as a new feature in the beta thread. When you move it to the backglass you also need to move the slider up towards “back” to make it only come from the backglass

I’m still baffled by the fact that I seems to be the only one that has mentioned serious sound issues from some of the table running 10.7. I fear that it will be my exit point out of this hobby.

                  Hi Thalmus,
I hope you do not want to leave this hobby with all the valuable information and tips you give us!

I must admit I have not yet tested 10.7 since we all get “warned” it is not ready yet. What is you experience sofar, can I replace the exe to 10.7 as a test and then compare?

Or how do you test it?

                    Hi, @njk

what do you think, would it be possible to add a slider instead of a checkbox to allow changing the range (left, right, top, down)? I do not know what parameter you do change, but maybe a more granular setting is needed than just a boolean value?

Of course this might make installing VPX too complicated if you have yet another complicated setting to play with. Just thinking out loud…

Thanks @njk70 for the test build.

It worked really good. I cannot not hear the bleed into the backbox in my tests, though the SSF sounds are more distinct with the new setting turned on.

                      I like it!

I’d like to do a test if still possible.

                        Sounds really interesting!
