February 5, 2019 at 1:52 pm #112993This may be the same in other countries, but the same question is asked in Australia as “What do you do for a crust?” To which my answer is normally “I leave my jocks on for three weeks”.

Hey there are no desks in the Australian Outback….. Landscape photography can be hard work. Like there is the tent to put up, sausages to cook for dinner, beer to drink, a sunrise or sunset to wait for and of course a little button to push…. then after that, there is scotch to drink.  Plus sometimes the light doesn’t want to play and I may have to do all that for a week or more!
EDIT:Â Yikes what happened to the quotes there??

LOL!
Well, consider marching for miles and miles carrying 80 pounds on your back, wearing full fighting order gear (tac vest, frag vest, helmet, gas mask, 5 loaded mags, canteen of water), carrying a heavy machine gun or assault rifle…digging trenches…standing sentry for hours at a time…going for days with no sleep…eating ration packs…shitting in a hole in the ground for your toilet…living in the real “field” with no showers, bathrooms, power, or shelter (just a ground sheet over your sleeping bag)…playing pretzel under the turret of a LAV…
….and do all the above for weeks or months at a time….oh, and you also need to do your “job” as a tech in the middle of all that….believe me that “desk” sucked sometimes. :)
That was life as an Army Comms Tech…
…now I’m an Air Force Comms Tech…and while the above “could” still happen…I get to spend more time in hotels now. :)
